Feeling positive but confused

Post by laura-t »

hello i am new to this sight today and think its great. I am feeling very positive as we have been told Consultant sending her referal letter to the IVF clinic and we will get 3 free attempts which is great news but she cant tell us any kind of waiting time, can any1 tell me what kind of waiting times they had to wait or what kind of waiting list there are on?
Also we have not been offered any king of tablets or anything like this the way the consultant was talking was she is refering us strait for IVF treatment. is the tablets or drugs something that would be nornmally givin to u prior the ivf clinic or givin to you by the clinic to try before they give u treatment?

Hi laura,

welcome, regarding waiting times will depend on where in the UK you are. You will be lucky to get 3 cycles paid for, not sure if there are any health authorities still offering 3. 3 is the government guidlines but most authorities cannot afford it. My health authority cancelled all treatments until you are aproaching 40 then we get 1. they will use any excuse to not give you free goes, again depends on the health authority.

i assume your consultant has run a number of tests first before reffering you, once you get an appointment with the fertility clinic they will run further tests and tell you what is best for you. some clinics have long waiting lists 2years+ some are shorter, the good news is you are added to the list as soon as the refferal is sent, so you are moving up the list as you are being investigated (if that makes sense).

My clinic LGI, has nearly a 12 month wait for private treatment, but they cover a huge area and take on a lot of cases other clinics refuse. my health authority (norht yorkshire) wait time was 18-24months before they cancelled funding.

good luck on your journey

thanks for your reply this helps alot, i just cant imagine having to wait another 2 yrs thats crazy, myself and partner has had all the test with the hospital and she is def sending in her referal now and said she has checked and we can get 3 free here in Newcastle. So when we are added to the list should we recieve a letter to say this has been done do you know?

Hi laura,

We never got a letter to say we were on the list, just the consultant at LGI told us we were on the list and how long the wait was. You can call your local PCT trust (primary care trust)to ask them both the wait time and where you are on the list.
I know the wait is hell, we chose to go private whilst waiting and after our 2nd try got a letter to say all funding for North yorkshire had been cancelled, to add insult to injury my name was top of the list, and due to them reducing the number they had been doing in a year i never got a free go. they only did 20 in 6 months used to be about double that.
All in the past now as i have my teins.

good luck, i hope your wait isn't too long. where will your treatment be?

Hi

I was told our waiting list was about 2 years, it turned out to be 19 months so slightly less, but like Beachbaby people pay for cycles whilst waiting and then if they get a positive result they come off the waiting list and you move up it. Its great that you get 3 goes. Depending on the cause of the infertility, there are some options before IVF like chlomid tablets - but they aren't appropriate for everyone.
I wish you all the best - its a very tough journey to go - and this board and the ladies on here are wonderful. For me it was worth all the heartache as we were blessed on our 4th attempt.

Good luck
