egg count transfer

just wanted to get a general idea of how many eggs people have transferred and what was your success rate? we doing ER this friday and was just curious what the average number of embryo's people transferred with how many embryos took.

Due to my age at the time (36) I decided to transferred 3 eggs and only 1 took. Your doctor should be able to give you his opinion on how many you should transfer going on your health and age. Good Luck to you!

Hi there, we transferred (2) on our first fresh cycle -- only one took, but split twice creating a triplet pregnancy which we lost at 19 weeks. We just did our FET with only one blast (an attempt to reduce our chance of multiple pregnancy) - I am getting positive HPT's and my beta is tomorrow. We won't know if there is just one baby or if the embryo split again until our ultrasound. Typically the number of embryos transferred is determined by 1) your age given the standard of care parameters for the AMA, 2) the type of embryo (multi-cell or blast -- generally fewer are transferred if they are blasts), and 3) your feelings about mutliples. When faced with this decision for our transfer, my RE explained it as follows: "If you are more concerned with being pregnant, transfer more embryos, if you are more concerned with limiting your chances of a mutliple pregnancy, transfer only one". We went with option two given our previous pregnancy complications with triplets. I hope this helps.

we transfered 4 high grade embies 10 cell, 2 - 8 cells and one 5 cell. Only one took, I was 36 with no fertility issues. It is a hard decision since you can transfer 1 and get a singleton or 4 and get nothing, it is a big gamble. Good luck!

Hi,

The first time we were successful, we transferred two blasts, and one took. I was 34.
The second successful attempt (so far) we transferred two blasts and both took! This time I was 36.

Clinics are under increasing pressure to stick to SART/ASRM guidelines regarding how many embryos to transfer.

This is coming down because of the Octomom.

I think the average for someone under 35 is 2, older and depending on circumstances (such as failed attempts) could warrant 3 or 4, depending on quality...really too many variables to predict. I am 27, my first ivf we transferred 2 perfect grade 8 celled 3 day embies and one took. I am going for baby #2 now, and will transfer 2 again. My clinic said the only way they would transfer more than 2 in someone my age would be if they were all poor quality embryos and then he would consider 3.

2004-first IVF transfer was 2 embryos both took then lost one at 91/2 weeks resulting in one healty baby, i was 30

Second FET transfer 5/2008 2 embryos were transfered and resulted in bfn, i was 34.

third FET transfer 12/08 2 embryos were transfered and got a BFP and now 20 weeks pregnant with another boy i was 34 at the time of transfer but now am 35.

No fertlitly issues on my part but DH has low low sperm quality and count
all 6 embyros transfered from 2004-2008 are from the original IVF cycle from when i was 30 and i have 2 more frozen embyos left from that same batch which i hope to use in the future.....

CT_Michelle - This is interesting b/c I am debating the same question as this post and I am 27 like you were on your first IVF. I was advised to do one unless we chose two b/c we are young and our fertility is unexplained. What was the cause of your inferility? and did your doc advise 2 or did you guys chose 2? thanks for the help.

dixie chop- I guess we weren't really given a choice per say. For our first ivf, at our consult, we were told for someone my age, they transfer 2. Our infertility is all male factor, so we did icsi. I didn;t question them, I trusted their judgement.

After seeing how the numbers worked last time, and having no infertility issues myself, I don't think I would ever want to risk transferring less than 2, but I can understand why people want ti. I just feel like we have been through 2 much and to look at both extremes, I would rather end up with multiples than none.

I felt like we had everything on our side, and was very optomistic. I was younger than most, no female issues and everything went great. First time around we had about 11 follies, got 9 eggs, only 8 were viable, 5 fertilised and on day 3 we had 4 perfect 8 celled embies. We transferred 2 and only one took...so it is all a numbers game. If I had only transferred one, it could have been the one that didn't make it and I would have been devastated.

We transferred 3 embies on the first three cycles and one took the third time. Recently we transferred only 2 due to the fact that I didnt want multiples this time. It comes down to the fact of if you are prepared for twins?? I was the first time, but not the second....

our doc said more then likely we will transfer 2 and i am happy with that. i was so against multiples with our IUI but when it failed now we would twins so we won't have to go through this again. but...we will see how all goes.
