Low beta not doubling but stress levels are trippling - HELP

Post by Katina »

Hi,

I am new to this forum so sorry if you a have answered this type of question before but stress levels are high today and hoping someone has experienced a similar issue.

I had my first ICSI IVF treatment in March 09 and had a positive pregnancy test. However, beta levels are destroying my hope. My first beta was (98.5) 18 days post 3 day transfer and my second beta was (144) on 21 days post transfer. Doctor is more or less told me he is pretty positive it's NOT a viable pregnancy. Wants me to have my 3rd bata on Monday.

I have had a 2 year roller-coaster with fertility issues. Can there be any hope with this? Many thanks.

Katina,

First off let me say I'm sorry for what you've had to go through thus far and I wish everyone could understand what a difficult process this really is! My wife and I went through what you're going through now in September of 2008. Her first number was very low and then her second doubled, but she ended up having a very early miscarriage and it crushed us both. We tried invitro again in December and my wife is now 21 weeks pregnant with twin boys. It feels like your world is crashing down around you, but don't let this stop you! Take a break if all doesn't work out well and then come back more determined than ever. I don't know what else to tell you besides we are all here to support you through this difficult time and there are many on here that have gone through what you may be going through right now. Only time will make it easier unfortunately.......... :(

Hi Katina.... I also wanted to say I went through a similar expierence with my first IVF cycle. My first beta was around 90 but it never doubled. Then I went for my first FET and none of my embies survived the thaw. But after taking a little break I was ready for IVF # 2 and that lead to my current pregnancy where I am 20 weeks pregnant with a little boy and a little girl.

I know how tough this must be on you but I agree with Bigrediowan...take a break if you need then try again.
ME 27 DH 28

IT'S A BOY AND A GIRL!!!

Hi Annie and Bigrediowan

Thanks for your kind words and support. I am afraid I had further sad news today. I did my third beta and the results have reduced to 126 which is a clear sign of 'miscarriage'. The clinic have told me to wait for a miscarriage. I am devastated.

To be so close and then realise there is a whole new chapter to worry about is mind-blowing. It's just been such an emotional 2 years with hubby's diagnosis (obstructive azoospermia) which luckily is being resolved but still chances to conceive naturally are slim.

I feel so down but hopefully things will eventually get better. I just hope the miscarriage part comes quickly and doesn't drag on. The scan today did not show evidence of any internal bleeding nor ectopic but again too soon to diagnos properly (Just under 6 weeks pg).

So sorry to hear that Katina, I was hoping the numbers were wrong and you would go the other direction. My wife's miscarriage drug on for quite sometime so I hope it goes quickly for you as well. She had a hard time with it and it strained our relationship some. We are now stronger than ever as a couple and our relationship is great. Be determined and know that you're going to make this happen, don't just hope that it happens. Stay strong Katina...........

Katina,

I checked in to see how you are doing and am so sorry for the news.

I have had two previous miscarriages and just last night learned that the second twin I was carrying in this pregnancy lost the heartbeat at 10 weeks. It is quite a rollercoaster and is devastating.

My second misccarriage was after my first IVF cycle, so I know how hard that road is. You go through so much and are so devastated (not to mention the physical toll on your body). I miscarried in November and we started our next IVF cycle in February - now due in February. It comes more quickly than you think and your body (and soul) has some time to heal. Take time for yourself and hang in there - it will happen!

I just wanted to add that after both of my miscarriages, I had D&Cs. I could not wait for the natural miscarriage and basically insisted on the D&Cs. For us, it was the right decision - I just could not continue to walk around with this little thing with no hearbeat inside of me. If it is not coming naturally in a time that works for you, I woudl consider a D&C and push the doctors if necessary. The procedure was done in my doctor's office in less than an hour, I was in bed that afternoon and at work the next day both times.

Also, no one told me how hard the due date might be. When my first due date came (Dec. 10, 2008), I had already had my second miscarriage and it was such a hard day. I just wanted you to be prepared and maybe plan something meaningful for you for that day (I am not trying to upset you, just wanted to share something I wish had been shared with me early).

Stay strong and hang in there - you will be a mom!

Katina,

I am so sorry. I know I miscarried withing two weeks of my 1st beta so hopefully you will within the next week. It seems aweful to write that but it is better if it happens quickly and doesnt drag out. I know exactly what you are going through right now....I cried myself to sleep many many nights and just felt so hopeless. But I have to say it will get better in time. Someone here on the board pointed out to me when I was going through it that at least I know that I can get pregnant. After I thought about it, it did bring me some comfort. And you WILL get pregnant again and have a baby. During that time I also kept thinking that something had to have been wrong with the baby and this had happened for a reason. After all I wouldnt be pregnant with my twins now if that pregnancy didn't end so I have to hold onto the fact that it happened for a reason.

Maybe try to go out with DH to get your mind off of things. I know pomegrante martini's helped me very much during that time....

Good luck with everything.
