Have you got the same problem??

Post by Carolanne »

HI,

I've just joined the site and have been overwhelmed with the support offered so far. Like many of you at the start of your treatment I have soo many questions to ask and I have been reading through all of the varoius threads.

I have a blocked a tube and my hubby has poor motility - bloody things won't swim the right way - the doctor at leeds said they were lazy - yeah that about sums up my hubby!!

Is there anyone on the forum that has the same problems?

Hope to hear from anyone...

Love

HI Carol

welcome to the boards....your right, they are a great support.....

I have a lazy husband to!!! (he had cancer 12 years ago and now has low count with poor motility-basically doc said they were healthy etc but just lethargic and not likely to get where they are supposed to) Bless!!

Luckily as far as I am aware I am fine......apart from embies did not stick around last time so am hoping this time works......Am doing a FET(frozen embryo transfer)

Have you started tmt yet? and can I assume you will be doing ICSI?? DO you get NHS help in your area? unfortuanly we dont but hey, thats life....

Good luck and looking fowards to reading your updates and BFP(big fat positive)

Hi Sarah

My hubby is in the Army which is a nightmare with the postcode lottery as we move every 2/3yrs. Luckily we moved up north for a year ( where we are both originally come from) and I registered at my local family doctors and we were approved for NHS funding for 2 attempts. However, last August we moved to Wiltshire but we have still kept registered in Leeds to enable us to get treatment and the fact that we were on the list and didn't want to start all over again.

We come to the top of the list in November, they mentioned ICSI but have said that we will do IVF instead. To tell you the truth both meetings at the hospital were pretty poor, I was told to lose weight and Nick was told to stop smoking - which we are in the process of doing - if we don't we don't get treated and have to wait. The information available was just dire and I'm soo glad that I found this site.

I was so concious of it consuming our lives that for the past 12 months we haven't really thought about it, I've broke down a few times as 3 of my best friends have had babies :-( but other than that we have tried to nuture and support each other by not dwelling on it. But now its at the fore front of our minds and I just can't wait to start.

Good luck for your transfer - I really hope that it works for you:-)

Is there anything my hubby can do help his motility - drugs, vitamins?

Hiya Carolanne

Glad to see you you here on this site :D

You sound like you may have similar problems to myself. I had a fallopian tube removed 9 years ago due to an ectopic pregnancy - at that time they told me that my other tube was blocked and IVF was my only option. After our first consultation in January, we were also told that my DP has a high sperm count, (200million) :P BUT most of the blighters are lazy and abnormally shaped

So we are currently doing our first cycle of ICSI at the Lister Hospital in London and I am off today for my first Gonal F injection after a week of sniffing. If you need to ask me anything I will be more than happy to share my experience with you.

Take care and by for now
Nickie

Hiya Carolanne

Wanted to welcome you to the board and say to a fellow 'army wife' 8)

me and my hubby found out five years ago that we are probs conceiving went to docs and I was diagnosied with PCOS and underactive thyroid. Andy was told he had slow swimmers but count was OK. We tried for a year on clomid but to no avail and I was getting down very much thinking babies 24/7, plus it was putting a strane on us. So we stopped and moved around (as we do).

Now we're in Germany and just thought it was right, older and hopefully wiser. We have first specialist appt next week, I've already had hormone tests and Andy another sperm test (once again slow swimmers but OK). He also was told to stop smoking, lay off the booze (yeah like sqauddies can do that........) and was told vit C and zinc (another vit but can't remember sorry) were helpful, so we're going to ask the specialist to prescribe if poss because apparently normal shop doses not high enough. Also I have to loose the weight IF we get to the next step of IVF.

Sorry I've gone on about me too much, I honestly just wanted to welcome you and to mention the vits.

Hope to see you posting again soon, best of luck with the treatment.

Take care

Hi,
I have blocked tubes but dp OK.
I've heard that vit c is good for blokes. There are books at Waterstones that talk about a good diet for fertility. I didn't buy any of them just took to an armchair in the shop and read through them one afternoon.
Marilyn Granville (or something like that) recommends a whole load of vitamins.
Also Chinese medicine (herbs) is meant to be good.
Good luck to you and dh.
