I had my second US (7w2d) with my RE last Thurs and saw a hb of 142. Was very excited that the hb increased from my last US, 113. The tech also found another dark area on the US which was explained to me as a subchronic bleed (scb). My nurse told me that it was not uncommon for some pregnancies to have this. From what I understand, it is bleeding between the placenta and uterus. It usually has no effect on the baby or on the pregnancy and dissipates on its own within a few weeks (some women bleed it out or their body absorbs the blood) but there is still a chance for a miscarriage. I read that some women experienced spotting or even heavy bright red bleeding, but thank goodness, I am not getting that--yet. I wonder if the bleeding is suppressed because I am still on my medications to support the pregnancy? My nurse didn't recommend bed rest or anything like that. On the bright side, I graduated that same day to my OB but was told to have the scb monitored. My OB appt will not be till early April. I am still worried about this scb and was wondering if anyone else has experienced the same thing. Any input would be great!
I had my first ultrasound last Friday at 5 weeks 5 days. There was a third smaller sac with nothing in it and the tech said it could just be blood and she was fairly certain it wasn't another gestational sac. She didn't seem to think it was a big deal. Did yours look similar to the gestational sac, only smaller? I'm just wondering now if that's what it could be is a subchronic bleed.
I think mine was a bit bigger than the GS but scb ranges in different sizes and according to my tech, mine was small. My GS did grow from my 1st us so that was a good thing. I didn't think it look like a GS, it wasn't a defined circle or shape and it wasn't completely black in the middle. My nurse didn't think it was a big deal either. I don't think yours is a scb--I'm sure they would be able to tell? Did they give you a measurement? They will probably f/u on it on your next us. I will have to wait 2w plus b4 my OB appt! I am hoping that my body will reabsorb the scb b4 then. Good luck to you!
my sch/ clot wasn't seen on u/s first..i saw it when it came out of me amongst a lot of blood... this happened at 9 weeks. i continued to have spotting/ bleeding til 13 weeks.
it was awful and i was constantly worried, but the dr. kept saying he was optimistic i'd be fine, and he was right, i'm now 22 weeks and doing great. it's a miracle, and stuff like this happens to lots of women who end up with healthy births.
i'm sure you'll be fine and try to enjoy your pregnancy! congratulations on being pregnant.

I had one too. I was about 9 weeks along and the doctor gave my pregnancy a 50/50 chance. I bled for about a week (the first couple of days were fairly heavy) and the blood clot remained for another 4-5 weeks and then disappeared. My little angel was born full-term without any complications other than a hemangioma (a vascular birthmark) that some researchers have attributed to placental problems during pregnancy. Stay positive. I'm sure it will all work out just fine.
Thanks for everyone's replies. I have been to my OB two times since and he did not seem worried at all. I have not spotted or bled so far. At both visits my OB used the doppler to hear the baby's heart beat and everything seems ok so far. Fingers crossed. I will be going to have my sonogram probably some time in June and I'm sure they will see if the clot is still there--but cannot wait to find out the baby's sex! Did or will anyone of you plan to find out your baby's sex? I do not think I can wait that long!
that's great to hear, and yyes- i'm having a boy. very exciting to know and plan for it. at this point for me, that bleed feels like ages ago. sounds like that's the direction you're headed too! karen
