Nancy- you do put it all very well and I think it's wonderful you're putting so much effort and energy into this decision. I just had an awful scare Thursday AM and had to go in for u/s thinking I was in the beginning stages of a miscarriage at 10 weeks. I had really talked myself into being ready to hear there was no heartbeat and trying to think of all the good things that would result from that news, in an effort to protect myself emotionally. Well, thank our Father above, everything is fine- but I just cried and cried when they said it looked beautiful!!! There is just no way we can ever really protect ourselves from hurt or pain..... we just do the best we can to get by. We will always have decisions we make that we could say we regret, but I think we can also choose to learn from those decisions. Nancy- I KNOW you will make the right or best decision you can, no matter what that is.... We will all be thinking about you and praying for you, I'm sure.

After having such crazy scares- I've chosen not to do any testing beyond what my OB/gyn recommends or suggests. Before a few weeks ago, I thought for sure we'd have all kinds of testing, thinking I wouldn't want a disabled, etc child. It would certainly be difficult to wrap my feeble mind around such a concept, but I have to trust and believe that everything happens for a reason- EVEN if my decision would have been to go ahead and "A" (I just don't want to use the word), that would have been right for us, too. My heart just flip-flopped- that's all... so now, I've change my mind- it's just such an incredibly hard decision to make and always so final and with all kinds of lasting effects. Like I said, we do the best we can to make such a decision- no one should ever judge anyone in our situations.... ever.

Turns out that I didn't get an ultrasound yesterday. :( Since I am now not in the least bit high-risk with my regular obgyn I am only expected to have one ultrasound the entire pregnancy, and that will not be until July 7!! In the meantime I get the basic exam once a month: Blood pressure, weight, tummy measured, heartbeat listened to (nice and strong). It's so ironic to me that I have had approximately 5 million ultrasounds trying to get pregnant and now that there is actually something incredibly exciting to see going on in there - none.

cristi262 - That's so cool that you (might) know what you're having already! I can't wait to find out!!

excited-in-la - Speaking of gender, it's funny... I just went to a baby shower this weekend for a friend who is having twin boys. Her husband said that they wanted to find out because there are already too many surprises with having kids, and they wanted to be prepared for one thing at least!

nancy1 - I am also doing the 2nd trimester testing, blood tests at 16.5 weeks with additional observations on my regularly scheduled u/s at 18 weeks if the blood test results are suspect. Maybe I'm being unduly enthusiastic, but I just have a positive gut feeling that everything is OK.

aspotofTea - I'm so glad to hear that everything is looking good. Bleeding is so scary, no matter how many times you hear that it's perfectly normal! Sadly, no Trader Joe's anywhere near me - I have been making do with the occasional cup of chamomile tea.

Ok all- I'm getting a little unnerved- Sunday AM and this AM when I had a BM (warning, possible TMI) & did not strain or anything, I have bloody mucous when I wipe. Then nothing, except for just now, I had a little after I just urinated. Is anyone else having this issue or just me??? It just freaks me out. Sorry, it just seems like when I start to feel excited, something happens like this :(

I am actually having the same thing off and on, for about a week or so now, but I have was checked last week and everything was fine. Mine is "old blood" as my Dr put it- it is usually dark brownish, which she told me means it's a slow, minimal bleed that has had time to oxidize, hench the dark color.

My Dr said if it is just a little bit, and not enough for you to be changing pads or liners frequently, then it is probably just random pregnancy spotting. Which, is still scary to us that have it! She told me bright red and steady flow- you need to call ASAP. She was also concerned about any cramping, which I have not had. She said at this point, if something was going wrong, there is a good chance I would be cramping painfully.

Did you call your Dr? Even if just for peace of mind.......

Hi everyone else- how are you all feeling?

aspotoftea:  oh, thank you! I'm sorry you are going through it too- but that is just exactly what has been happening- then last Thursday morning- the nurse said there was a pool of blood in the lining of my uterus, so maybe it's from that? But anyway, mine is the same as yours, darker red to a light brown and definitely not bright red, constant, or accompanied by painful cramping. WHEW. I swear I am going to lose my mind!!!!

I had a little bleeding scare over Mother's Day. I was standing in line and suddenly felt a small gush. When I went to the bathroom, I saw (TMI) my liner soaked with bright red blood. Scary! DH took me to the ER, and luckily, it stopped a little while later. I'm still spotting some old brownish blood now.

The OB did an ultrasound and checked my cervix, and there was no obvious cause for the bleeding. I was pretty scared but just kept telling myself that the babies are okay as long as I didn't have painful cramping and/or large clots. I also tried to focus on what my RE had told me about how IVF pregnancies are more likely to have bleeding than traditional pregnancies.

Aspot and Ian: I'm sooo glad none of us have worse symptoms!

Wondercat: I can't believe you won't get at least 2 ultrasounds this pregnancy. That really sucks. If you're really jonesing, you could go to one of those 3D ultrasound places and pay for a DVD of your little bean.

Have a great week everyone!!

Hi everyone.

Nursegator sorry for your scare - I am glad things look good for your little ones! How scary for that to happen on Mother's Day of all days!!!

We just came from an ultrasound and all looks good. The baby was asleep, so it was not as exciting as our gymnastics show last time!

The doctor is seeing us in two weeks and decided to do the amnio at 17 rather than 16 weeks to give everything a little break. He suggested we wait until the amnio results (week 19) to tell everyone. My husband is dying to share the news! I want to wait, but my belly popped this week and I don't know how much longer I can hide it. It is 80 degrees here and I have been in winter blazers and big sweaters. My husband and mom say it is so obvious I am pregnant, I am not fooling anyone - but after all that we have been through, I just am not feeling totally excited or ready to share.

I did break down and buy some maternity clothes and bras this weekend. It makes a huge difference, and was a fun activity with my mom on Mother's Day.

Sending good thoughts and hugs to everyone!

ianmichael3 and nursegator - Sounds like we are all having the same thing! I just had a bleeding scare Monday night through yesterday morning. Bright red, but not as much as the last two times I have had it. In the tradition of my usually wacky medical adventures, they have a new u/s machine at the hospital and the tech was completely baffled. She kept muttering to herself and re-booting it, while I was lying there freaking out inside and trying to act all calm like it was no big deal.

I know what you mean - just when I'm all complacent and happy... BAM, I'm bleeding and freaking out. The only semi-good thing was that any time there is bleeding my doctor's office wants to do an ultrasound to make sure everything is OK. So I got another u/s, though I'm not sure the mental stress of the last two days was worth it.

That said, it was SO cool to see my little bean finally looking like a little person! A really, really ACTIVE little person!! And the good news is everything is OK. Their only theory is that my placenta is close to the cervix, which could be making it more prone to bleeding than usual. The other thing she said (tongue in cheek) was that "some lucky women just get periodic bleeding during their pregnancy." Yippee. She did mention that it tends to go away around 17-19 weeks. I'm not hopeful if it's as persistent as my nausea... :)

excited-in-la - I am at the same place with my husband and mom looking at me like I'm a nut when I say I haven't told people at work yet.

Can anyone else feel their baby(ies) yet? I could swear I having been feeling something since this weekend, and even the u/s tech said she would be shocked if I wasn't feeling something, my little one was kicking around so much.

I love you ladies. Only you can understand why we look at the toliet paper everytime we pee.

So the last week I've been feeling like I have to pee every five minutes, but then I go and not that much comes out. It's gonna be a long 5-6 months if this is how I'm going to feel from here on out!!

It sucks that any of us are having to deal with any sort of bleeding, but thankfully, none of us have a steady flow, and none of us have cramping. So, that's me trying to see the glass half full for us all

Hi Ladies,

Sorry that your molthers' day wasn't as peaceful as you would have wanted to. The good thing though is that you are ALL DOING GREAT!!!!

No need to apologize for checking the TP. Here is my routine since I had my miscarriage and some spotting after a particularly difficult BM!
1- CHeck my liner.
2- Check the TP
3- Check the toilet bowl.

I know, you can call me a psycho all you want. But I can't help it. This is just the way I calm my nerves everytime I run to the bathroom feeling that something gushed out. I guess it's really hard to recover from the trauma once you had a bad episode.

NOT SHOWING YET: if some of you guys are not, you must be really really lucky. DH and I had decided to wait until all the tests were done.
But who were we kidding? I had OHSS (ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome) from the IVF; so from day one, my tummy reallly reallly got swollen up. Now I'm almost 14 weeks and now I can tell if the tummy I have is from the pregnancy, remnant of OHSS or combo of the 2. Anyhow, I got so sick of people telling me that "it seemed that I had gained some weight, right?", that I told cousins and aunts this past Friday. Next week I am going to a wedding and I baught my first "dressy" outfit for the occasion. At this point, I don't care anymore. Que sera sera.

Good luck everyone and hang in there!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

nancy1 - Too funny! Sounds like my ritual. Only in addition if I suspect something sketchy is about to come out I also might look between my legs while I pee. At least we're all nuts together!!

On a lighter note (enough with the bleeding already!) I got my first Mother's Day present from my husband this year. He gave me a sapphire pendant, but was scrupulous enough to point out that with the baby coming and money tight that it was only a lab-created sapphire. I told him not to worry, as it was was probably the most appropriate thing he could have given me - after all, it's a lab-created baby, too!!

aspotoftea - I've been feeling the same way the past week or so where I really have to pee but then when I go, it's not very much. I could go every 10 minutes I swear! At night I seem to have to get up 3 times a night, too.

We had a scare this past week also. Starting in the morning, my tummy felt a bit tighter and I'd get a small pain if I stretched the wrong way. By dinnertime, it was feeling a bit worse but then after I ate, it was really bad. My whole abdomen felt so tight and sore that I could not stand up completely straight. I called the nurse and she said it could be round ligament stretching. Since I didn't have any bleeding or clear fluid leaking, she said drink a couple of glasses of water and take a warm bath. If it wasn't better in the middle of the night, then I should come to the emergency room. So I did that and went to bed. When I awoke in the middle of the night, it was gone and I've felt fine ever since. I still feel concerned by the whole thing and will feel much better when we go to my regular OB appt. on Thurs. and have an ultrasound. It honestly was the most horrible pain I've ever felt. I likely won't be saying that after going through labor, will I!!

I hope everyone is doing well.
