Ultrasound and no heartbeat. Too early?

Post by Candygirl0530 »

Hi everyone,

Today was my first ultrasound. RE seen the embryo but no heartbeat. According to him I am 6 weeks today. Scheduled for another u/s next Tuesday. Two of my beta's doubled and the last two didn't, yet they did rise.

My RE told me I'm on borderline for a m/c if he don't see the heartbeat next week. I thought this was a horrible thing to say.

Any thoughts?
Thanks alot. Candy

I definitely think 6 weeks is very early. My RE told me not to expect to see the h/b until 7 weeks. I saw (two!) heartbeats at 6 weeks, 5 days and did not see any hearbeat at 5 weeks, 4 days.

My RE told me not to freak if I didn't see the hearbeat at 6.7 weeks. Did the doctor see the embryo or a yolk sac?

Thank you for your reply. Yes the Dr. did see a sac and embryo. He didn't mention anything else and just told me if he didn't see a h/b beat next Tuesday that is probably isn't a normal pregnancy.

Thanks :)

I have read that it is normal for a h/b not to be detected until an embryo is 4mm. How big was it?

Mine was 5mm. I'm starting to feel morning sickness so I'm praying it is a good sign!

candy- that was crummy for RE to say. With my first ivf, I did not see the hb at first u/s which was around 6 wks. It wasn't until 7.5 wks that we saw a hb. I was a late implanter and everything throughout my whole pregnancy was off by a couple of days, so you may be in the same boat, especially if your betas were low to start.

Try not to stress, I am sure it will all work out, even with a late hb, my pregnancy was great and my 9 month old daughter is perfect! Good luck!
