My baby was diagnosed with oral thrush yesterday. Everything happened by chance. I went for my follow up appointment with my midwife and I took Asha to "show her off" to the nurses and folks in the office. Well, as it turned out my midwife noticed the thrush on Asha's tongue. I was so clueless ,this whole time I thought that was left over milk!!!!!!!!! OMG I felt so guilty, my poor child. My nipples are sore, but I though that was normal because I'm a new breastfeeding mom. In any case, the pediatrician prescribed nystatin. We started it last night in her mouth and I rub it on my nipples. Let's hope it works fast.
Anybody with a similar experience? Any advice/words of wisdom?
Thank you

Don't listen to me. . . . my baby had thrush and it was the WORST thing ever! The antibiotic from the NICU made him more able to get it and it was horrid! I did everything. . . .ate yogurt, took acidpholis (sp), aired out my nipples, Nystatin, rubbed yogurt in his mouth, tried pumping and putting the acidopholis in his bottle, you name it we did it! We STILL ended up in the hospital after a scope because the yeast ate away at his good bacteria so bad that his stomach acids were burning his throat.
Good luck and I am sure we had a bad case so I don't mean to worry you BUT be diligent! Get it gone!!!! I am afraid of thrush like no other now!! Do not let up until you are 100% sure it is gone. It was so bad and it drug out for 2 solid months here. My son was a twin and born 6 weeks early so perhaps he couldn't fight it as well but I wish you all the luck in the whole world!!!!!!
HUGS!!!!!
Sorry if I scared you. . . I don't mean to! I'm sure it will all go away much easier for you.

Hi Ladies... I have ONE word for this... PROBIOTICS!!!! My baby girl had the worst case of diaper rash from YEASTY diarrhea that it ATE at her behind! All the Vusion, zinc oxide and oitments couldn't get rid of it completely until I added the Cuturelle(c)... Add to the food/formula and you'll see the nystatin really work - you eat it too mom... BTW - I got thrust sooooo bad when the babies were 2 months old that by the time they were 3 1/2 mo I had to stop BFing because I couldn't get rid of the pain - I mean my mouth was bleeding and I didn't eat for 5 days...

My wife and daughter got thrush a couple of times breast feeding. Lots of cranberry juice fixed it each time, just like it fixes other yeast infections.
