Considering egg donation....

I guess after the enormous amount of confusing info I have read on the internet, I have decided to just ask.

What could I expect as a donor? What kind of time does it take? What kind of compensation is provided? What are the risks?

I would think I would make a reasonable donor but I'm not sure what people are looking for. Let me know....

It varies a bit. Compensation can run from $3000 to, allegedly, $25,000. $4000 to $8000 is common.

I can tell you how anonymous donor cycles go at my clinic.

It takes about a month to do the cycle, with 10-15 appointments for consultation, training, consenting, blood draws, ultrasounds, and the egg retrieval. You will need to be screened for diseases. You will give yourself multiple injections daily during stimulation (about 10 days).

You will be advised not to have unprotected intercourse during the cycle.

You will likely have temporary health insurance purchased by the recipient. The recipient will pay for everything or almost everything.

You will not be allowed to know if your eggs were actually used, by whom, or if a child resulted. You will be required to sign a document saying you forever surrender any interest in the eggs and any offspring that may result. The recipient will get to see some data about you, in order that they may decide if you are suitable, but they will not be told your name. You will not get to see any data about them.

The egg retrieval itself is a surgical procedure, with anesthesia and a fair amount of post-operative pain.

Thank you to the few who emailed me directly and to Ghost for responding here. It seems that there is a tremendous amount of support in this process.....both from the donors and the aspiring parents.
