I am just about to start my first IVF treatment after having done four failed IUIs.
We have what is supposedly unexplained infertility and it is very frustrating and they keep telling us there is no problem with me internally or with my partner in any way.
It seems that there is not much success on the first attempt at IVF, I wonder if anyone could give me any hope. I would be interested to hear from someone else in my position , with unexplained infertility and maybe about to start IVF. WE have the information session on 29th March.
And now it seems that everyone around me is pregnant!
Hi Tania, welcome to the board. There are lots of people about to start treatment (have a look at both the March and April Cycle Buddy threads for dates closest to yours).
There are many 1st time ivf success stories. I'm one of them. We had our first tmt in Aug.2002 and my DD is now 10m - so it really can work!
I have just noticed from your profile that you are an EFL teacher in Norway. I was doing that for a few years in Argentina and then back in England. I now work from home.
Anyway it is good to hear that some people do have success with their first IVF.
I was quite positive when we did our first IUI but when we had done two and then three I gave up hope.
We have our info session on 29th March and start sniffing on 31st March. I am dreading feeling really moody with all the sniffing and injections.
I was hoping to get pregnant a while ago as my sister has two children of 10 months and just over two years and I would have loved for their cousins to be close in age.
Hi Tania,
Good luck for your treatment. As Debra said there are people that get pg with their first treatment. Two did from the February Cyc;e Buddies.
Don't worry about the mood swings. You just have to let them happen. I cried alot during my ivf cycle but as soon as you start the injections it gets a bit easier. Do join the March or April Cycle Buddies thread. It will give you so much support. I don't know what I would have done without the message board.
I hope it all goes well. I can't answer any of your questions about unexplained fertility. I have damaged tubes, so cannot get pg naturally. I've always thought that unexplained fertility must be really hard as there are so many questions left unanswered.
Have you tried alternative therapies?
By the way all my friends are either pg or have a baby too. It is really hard. I found out my ivf failed last weekend and then went out with a friend and sister who are pg. My sister in law has given birth to a baby girl today, and I've just checked my emails and a group of my friends are all arranging to meet in 2 weeks time (3 are pregnant and one has just had a baby). I don't know whether I will be able to face going. It will all be baby and pregnancy talk. I will be gutted, so I really dont think I have the courage to meet with them all. But then I dont want infertility to ruin my life either ???? So I have no answers!!!! but I know how you feel.
Good luck again.

I wish you lots of luck with your meeting and IVF. We too have unexplained infertility and I've just had my first cycle of Clomid. I am due on anyday, don't feel pg (I think I've been hoping that PMS symptoms are something other than PMS, but everything crossed as usual!
I will be going down the IVF route myself if the next 2 Clomids don't work so we'll have to keep eachother posted.
Hi Tania,
Just wanted to say good luck for ur 1st Ivf!!!It works for a lot of people the first time itself so lets be positive cause u might be one of them!!!!
Luv,
Miracle
It's going to be ok in the end.Even if it's not ok....IT"S NOT THE END!!!
Thanks everyone for the replies and all the support. Its great to know that so many people log on to this site and that people take the time to read and reply to questions.
Sophie-Jane you mentioned alternative therapies. I haven;t tried anything like that. I eat well and am pretty healthy. Do you have any particular suggestions. I understand all that you were saying about people and their babies. Actually it was my sister having her beautiful daughter who made me want to have children so much. Until three years ago I didn't think I wanted children and now I seem to have become obsessed. I love looking after my neice and nephew now, they are two and nearly one.
Good luck with your next IVF.
Miracle thanks for wishing me luck
Terri. I tried Clomid on my second try at IUI but got odd side effects, weird flashing lights in front of my eyes. So I had to come off it. It also changed my periods quite a lot.
Dawn I read both your replies. That has given my partner and me so much hope, thanks a lot. And it is good to see that people continue to write here even after they get pregnant.
IVF is such a rollercoaster ride so you need to stay as positive as you can. Just to let you know I had IVF/ICSI and it worked for me on my first attempt and I can now happily say I have a beautiful son who is 6wks old, he weighed in an healthy 11lb 5oz. I had a rough time though during the 2ww I was bleeding and uptil 18wks on and off my pg but it doesn't change anything I did worry but my son is healthy and I love him to bits.
Hi Tania,
The alternative therapies I was thinking about is acupuncture or reflexology. The three books i read during my afternoon chilling in waterstones said that acupuncture was a must for people during ivf (before and after embryo transfer).
However you will need to find a good acupuncturist. I saw one from the high street chain Dr China and wasn't impressed. I'm on the hunt for another one.

Hi, just read your post , I'm a first timer as well I found the book pregancy and conception by Zita West had really good explainations on diet and alternative therapys. Particularly the section on preparing for IVF it certainly makes you aware of things that they dont tell you at the hospital. I asked them there what they thought of alternative therapys and they said they dont tell people to do it ,but if people are Doing it they dont tell them not too.
All this but there are articles in the waiting room notice board about people getting pregants thanks to acupuncture. so I took that as a go ahead....we shall see.
