GHOST/ Anyone??How long should I wait after c-section?

Post by tryn4#2 »

My first IVF cycle was a success and now I have a beautiful baby boy :) . I had a c-section on Sept 08. I was wondering how long I should wait before I try for #2. The IVF clinic says it is okay to try again now but my OB-Gyn insists that I wait a full year before getting pregnant. Any suggestions?

When I worked for the department of health, we always told patients 2 years. It really does take your body 2 years to get back to "normal" however, most gyn/ob say at least 6 months but I think it is better on your body to wait a little bit longer. If you think about what you put your body through for 9 months, it was rough on it. Then to do it again in such a short period will be hard on it even more. I would say at least a year.

Congratulations on your little one! :D

My clinic said 6 months. My obgyn said they usually advise 1 year but that she understands why someone in my circumstances (nearly 38 with DOR) would not wait that long. We are trying as soon as possible. My little one will be nearly 8 months at my first possible date for transfer, though, b/c I have a month of priming first.

Good luck!!!

My Dr. said 6 months at first and then came back and said 3-6 b/c it took 3 years and 2 IVF's to get preg. the first time. She didn't think it would happen naturally anyway. I showed her! We started trying when our daughter was 4 months old and when she was 7 months old I was pregnant again. NEVER thought that would happen!! Our plan was to do another IVF when she was one year old if we were not pregnant naturally.

Anyway- my daughter was a c section and this one is scheduled for the first week of June. I will have another section. Everything has been fine with this pregnancy. Other than being exhausted from chasing my daughter around with extra weight on my belly! A little bleeding in the beginning, but they figured out what it was, and everything was fine.

Good Luck!
Jenn

Hi

I was told to wait for a year. I suppose it may well also depend on whether you want to try to have the baby naturally the next time round. I know I was very anxious about trying naturally this time (I have two now) but I had a lot of advice and I had waited a year for scars to heal etc so I did try naturally and it was really great.

I also got pregnant naturally 3 times in quick succession after my first baby (unfortunately I lost two) but worth thinking about if you are worried about waiting for a year - it may well happen a lot quicker next time. I have read SO many stories about natural conceptions after the first or much quicker success with IVF. GOOD LUCK anyway. Love Vicky

We waited 10 months after a natural birth. If it hadn't been for age - my wife is 38 - we would have waited longer. Our poor baby gets sick so much more often now that she's not getting breast fed!

My ob said 6 months after c-section. I started trying with ivf again at about 5, figuring I would be pregnant around 6 months, but of course with delays and a bfn, here I am at 9 months still not pregnant...good luck, I think after 6 months you are fine, plenty of time to heal.

I am also one of those who had to do 2 IVFs before getting pregnant. Now here I am, my daughter is almost 10 months old, and I am naturally pregnant! They ultimately diagnosed us with "unexplained infertility", but I also had stage 4 endo, a cone biopsy on my cervix, and was diagnosed with diminished ovarian reserve during IVF, but I'm pregnant anyways! I would recommend using ovulation test kits so you know your timing is right...that's what we did! You just never know. I really believe sometimes pregnancy is the best cure for infertility! Best of luck to you!
