Agnus Castus Dose

Post by Tina »

Hi

Some on here may remember me, although it feels like everyone I used to know has moved across to prenant after treatment, or dropped off the boards after having their children!!

Just failed yet another cycle, and wanted to do something to increase chances (either for another ICSI or a donor IUI cycle - not sure yet which route)

So, my question, I am 33 and have a high FSH 9.9 (which I wasn't aware of until my latest cycle - bloody clinics!!!)

I want to take agnus castus (I think that's how you spell it!), but am not sure what dosage I should be taking - any advice would be great.

Thanks for your help.

Hi Phil and Dagny

Phil - thanks for the advice, I will seek it out. I feel like anything is worth a try at the moment.

Dagny - I know I haven't posted to you before, but I just wanted to say what an amazing, strong and generous person you are. I am so sorry for your loss.

Agnus castus is supposed to lower FSH, and re-balance hormones. I have a high FSH for my age, and on all of my 3 cycles, have produced lower and lower numbers of eggs (from 10 to 7 to 4). Also I have never had good enough embryos left over to freeze - so have to start the whole cycle again every time. I think that this may have something to do with my high FSH (but the clinic did not mention this until this treatment). So now I know about it, I am going to try and do something positive!

Thanks for your replies girls

Hi Tina

Thanks for your kind words and filling me in on what Agnus Castus is. I am sorry that you don't produce so many eggs anymore.

My FSH levels seem to be ok and I fortunately produce a fair amount of eggs each time (12, 12, 15) fertilisation is normally good too although unfortunately we have never had any embies to freeze once ET has taken plece. They never seem to reach top quality for the freezing process which upsets me.

I am glad you are being positive. It always help to have a positive attitude.

Good luck, love Dagny xx

Hi Dagny

You sound like you are a really good responder. On the freezing issue, I also don't have any good enough to freeze, but my clinic is a bit anti-freezing (!) and so that might be something to do with it. Also I think it's an age thing - when you get over 35 they freeze more often. So perhaps it is these issues that stop them freezing spares in your case, rather than quality?

I am worried about my declining response and we are seeing one of the senior consultants for a review on Friday so should know more then. I can't keep trying if this trend continues, as we won't have any eggs next time! And the worrying thing is, I had about 17 follies, so there was no indication that there would be a small number of eggs. May be donor IUI for us, but I have a whole load of issues and fears on that and haven't even begun to get my head around them.

I wish you all the luck in the world when you feel strong enough to try again.

Love Tina x
