IVF Over 40 New Buddy Drive!!!

Post by njsurga »

Hi, I'm starting my first IVF cycle over 40. I'm currently stimming now. I have 2 children 22 & 19, I had them naturally when I was young. Had my tubes removed in 1990 due to an infection caused by surgery. Are there any other women over 40 women out there to keep me company?? I'm stimming on Follistim 150UL, Started stimming on day 5 and tomorrow go back for us/bloodwork on day 9. I live in NJ and I'm going to Dr Check at Cooper...he has a very good reputation and had no problem taking me and trying with my own eggs like some other drs. I know the odds are low so I could use the support!!

Hi! And Welcome!

I am 42 and just had my ER and ET last week. So now I am in the 2WW and will get my beta done a week from Tuesday.

I had one son naturally at 38 (actually, he was born 3 weeks prior to my 39th birthday). I got married at 35, so we didn't even start our TTC journey until I was 37. I got pregnant once before the cycle with my son and lost that one quickly (6w2d). Then, when my son was 5 months old and while I was still breastfeeding, I got pregnant again, but lost that one at 11 weeks (no heartbeat detected). After that, we discovered I am a carrier of a balanced translocation (chromosomal issue) and that might be why I lost the other pregnancies. Since that last loss, I have been pregnant twice more (lost one very early and had a tubal pregnancy just this past March during my very first (and only) IUI.

So onto IVF...

I found the whole IVF process quite interesting so far and not bad at all. I was so scared about all the meds and everything. All in all, it's been a really good experience that I now wish we did much sooner.

What protocol are you on?

I was on a microflare lupron protocol and I took follistim (started at 225 twice a day and they decreased my dosage once they saw I was stimming well).

Good luck with everything!

HI...I'm praying for you in your 2ww!!!!! I'm on a low stimulation protocal. I just started the follistim 150, and go back tomorrow to see if I am responding! Crossing my fingers!! By the way I'm 44 and remarried to the most wonderful guy 10yrs my jr. He has no children and it would be so wonderful to give him one with both our genetics. If this cycle does not work I have to move to a donor cycle because our insurance only pays for 3 attempts and we don't want to blow it!!

Please keep me informed in your 2ww!!!! Baby dust to you sweetie!!!

OK....went for u/s and blood this morning. been stimming for 4 days and the u/s tech said I had 3 follies. Whats the average length of a stimming cycle? I'm freakin out cause I only have 3. I'll know later when the nurse calls me back with my instructions. I hope your getting your rest!!

Hi Lynni.. I went to the old thread and there was no action there at since May. Glad to hear everything is going well with you!! My RE upped my follistim dosage today to 225. Hope that works. I go for a mock transfer and sono tomorrow then back for u/s and blood on Wed!! I hope I get as lucky as you :D !! But I have to also remember that I am a little older also.
How long did you stim for? This is my first stimming cycle.

Good on the doasge.

I always was on the max dose. I did gonal f, but same things as follistim. My amount was 150 am and 300 pm. PLUS two vials of menopur -- ie 150 of that. So that is a total of 600 iu of stim meds a day.

In fact in the last round, they bumped me from 600 to 675 by adding a third vial of menopur. Your dose is way way way less than mine. I had around 4 follies each time that would respond. Even when they saw more, only 4 would respond. Not a lot, but enough to get me preggers!
My stims were for 11 days...pretty much every single time except cycle 2 which was a giant disaster, though I suspect it was due to some other meds I was taking.

They upped my dosage to 225 once a day. I suspect they will be upping it till my ovaries respond. It must be doing something cuz I took the higher dosage today and had a few sharp pains in my ovaries..LOL!! I go today for a "mock transfer" so they can measure my uterus.

Hi - no symptoms, just a little tired. I didn't have any symptoms/MS last time (except craving for cheese/milk). Just taking it one day at a time. Just saw the heartbeat so I am happy for awhile.

Hello Sharon, LynnieCat, Tracy and rsdrisco,

I'm on Cycle #2 using Femara. I am currently on cycle day 13. I got three follicles this cycle (1 - 21 x 23m, 1-17x13mm, 1 -12x11mm). I'm hoping that the 2nd follicle caught up with lead follicle. I triggered yesterday. Last cycle I had three follicles (2 mature). If I'm not
pregnant after this cycle, I will proceed to a Femara/Gonal-f cycle with
IUI next cycle.

rsdrisco: Good luck on your 2ww!

Regards,
Tammy

teachertam - thanks for the thought (and good luck) for my 2ww. I'm feeling pretty discouraged even though I am only 7dp3dt. I have been taking tests every morning since about 4dp3dt to make sure the trigger has left my system and it did...but I couldn't stop peeing on those darn tests! Well, they're still showing negative. And even though I know 7dp3dt is early, I can't help to think since others have seen + by now, I should, too.

Oh well, only time will tell.
