How early did you all see a heartbeat?

Post by MedStudentMom2B »

Hello everyone,

I have an appointment with my RE next week on Thursday. This will put me at the 6w,1day mark. Do you think this is too early to see a HB? Should I reschedule?

Thanks so much!

You will read that some girls saw the heartbeat at this time, and some did not. I did not see the heartbeat at 6 weeks, but then I did at 6 weeks 5 days. If you want to keep the appt. just be prepared-I was HEARTBROKEN and so sure something was wrong when I didn't see it at 6 weeks-but my little 10 week old boy will prove that nothing was wrong, just some show sooner than others!!!! GOOD LUCK!!!!!! :D

Heartbeats usually start showing up at about 6 weeks.

Did not see it at 5.6 or 6.1, but did at 6.3.

I would seriously reschedule for 3 or 4 days later. Not seeing it, even though they said I might not drove me CRAZY!

The earliest I ever saw a heartbeat was 6:00 AM. Had not even had coffee yet.

I agree, why drive yourself nuts. I seriously obsessed and did nothing else. If I wind up in this situation again, I would not test till 6.5 or later just to makes SURE that I would see the heartbeat.

Very funny ghost..

Hi everyone,

Just an update... I rescheduled my first pregnancy U/S for the 30th which will put me at 8wk. Although I wanted to see them next week, they just didnt have any openings. This is probably ok, but does anyone see any disadvantages to getting my first U/S so late? Most people on here have them at 5, 6, 7 wks.

Thanks so much!

No disadvantage other than you have to wait until 8 weeks along! Most "regular" pregnancies only get one ultrasound and that's between 16-22 weeks. As long as you have no troubling symptoms (odd beta #s, pain, etc.), there really is no disadvantage.

It's a safety thing. We like to get early ultrasounds in order to identify the implantation site. Ectopic pregnancies are somewhat more common in IVF cycles than in natural cycles, so we like to get a good look at the uterus and the tubes at 5 weeks or so.
