Hi Carolyn,

My ob/gyn knows about the DE, my regular internist only knows about IVF.

Here in Germany, we have to carry a "mother passport", that has our medical records during pregnancy - just in case anything happens to you, the doctor has an idea what is going on -- Anyway, in my records that I carry around, it doesn't say either DE or IVF, just that I am pregnant and my records since then. Confusing, I know -- I just live in a small town and my doctor thought it was best we keep certain information private.

It might become important for your ob/gyn to know about DE if you decide to do any prenatal testing that has to do with bloodwork, because they base the statistics you get back on your age. But when you've done DE the age becomes the age of your donor -- If not, the results they give you won't be accurate.

Good luck with your appointment today!

Don't work too hard these days and get plenty of rest. Give your little bean the chance to get really nicely snuggled in and continue growing. Keep drinking 2-3 liters of water to keep the bloating down.

Have a good week, egg-heads!
xx summer

PS -Kelly, I am officially due Oct 27th, but will have a c-section about a week before that.

Summer,

I live in a small town and if we get pregnant, we will keep it private except for the OB/GYN> Unfortunately my friend's husband (from church) works at the practice. Are the docs required to keep that info confidential? I am considering a practice switch if we get pregnant. We are keeping it confidential because of our other children. We have one child with special needs and one child who is typically developing and we wouldn't want the ED child to ever feel differnt from his/her siblings. Anyway, I often think if we get pregnant, what docs will and will not know....Is it pretty hush hush where you are?

Hi gigi -

I do think it is expected/required that the doctors keep all your information confidential. I know that my doctor has not even shared the DE part of our tmt with her staff, but they do know we did IVF.

In this booklet I have to carry around, it is just like carrying around the records the doctor has - so if by some off chance I needed to go to the emergency room for example, and the EMT is my neighbor's son -- then when he looks into my booklet, he really doesn't need to know we did DE or even IVF -- Know what I mean?

I think the biggest medical question comes from whether you will do any prenatal testing or not, because then the truth about how you got pregnant matters in terms of the results you will get.

I understand your concerns regarding keeping things hush as far as your family and especially your other children are concerned, really I do.

I think you will have to follow your gut instinct and decide, when the time comes, if you will need to change practices or not.

I'm really no expert. All of this is just my opinion and everyone has their own ideas and views on the subject. There really are no right or wrong answers, just deciding how you feel about things and how you want to handle them --

Wishing you all the best and hoping the weeks fly by quickly till your cycle begins!

Hi Guys!!!

Carolyn those Beta's look great!!! Don't work too hard, and enjoy this time you earned it!!

Summer and Chriss how are you guys fareing it is hot here so I am sure you are a might uncomfortable:-)

AFM--Well they have a donor but she is in the middle to a cycle now so we are looking at 6 weeks until she is done--waiting for a call from our coordniator to get some timelines. Everyone else is just starting their cycles so it would be a least 3 or 4 months before they are ready to go. So we are in a holding pattern for now  I am okay rearing to get going again!

Hi,

I never met with my family doctor, only my OB after I was pregnant, so I did tell him about the donor. As Summer said, it was relevant when they were doing the screening tests because part of the calculation is based on maternal age which is adjusted for the donor's age.

I also provided by donor's blood type but I am not sure whether that was relevant.

I also don't know whether a doctor within a practice would be precluded from looking at files from another doctor's patient (within the same practice). If you are worried about it, then I think switching is a good idea???

Sabi, how are you doing? Is the time flying by? Are you going to POAS?

Summer, Chris, Carolyn, how are ours mommies to be! It is great how active and successful this thread is these days!!!

Poohgirl, hopefully your donor will be able to jump right back into another cycle. I did back to back cycles and it didn't affect the number of eggs I produced so hopefully they'll let her do it too!!

Evergreen, welcome.

JDC, Gigi - hi to you both!

Hi Ladies,

It is nice to see how welcoming this board is. Also I am impressed with the success amny of you have had with your first DE cycle. We live in Colorado in the US. I am cycling in Czech Republic basically because of cost. It is dramatically less even with the travel part. We are 100% out of pocket. We have done 2 OE cycles, one in Colorado and the other in Czech Republic. 1st ended in a 9.5 wk m/c and the second one ended with a chemical. We are now moving on to DE, this will be the first time for us. I have selected a proven donor, who seems great. Everything starts with my next AF, which should be around July 22-24th, and ET about August 11th. We are getting excited. We were just in Czech Republic for the last cycle in April, so we know what to expect. Prague is a nice city, that is where we are cycling. Last time we cycled in a little town, Olomouc, it was pretty boring there after we had seen everything. We are looking at visiting Berlin, has anyone been there before?

The only meds prescribed to me are: aspirin, prednisone, Prometrium (progesterone), and Estrofam. I don't start anything until AF starts. Donor is on pills to regulate her cycle to mine and the time period we will be over there. I have heard DE is much easier on the body than stimulation.

Hope you are all doing well,

Stef

Poohgirl - looks like you can enjoy your summer and then jump right into your cycle, which is going to be the one that was meant to be!! Keep up your PMA and in the meantime, get some things crossed off your to-do list now that you have a few extra weeks "free".

So far (knock on wood), we have had an incredibly mild spring and summer. Almost too mild! Yesterday it barely broke 50!---Today it was a very pleasant 72 -- So, I have no complaints about the hot weather -- not yet anyway. And, thanks for thinking about me!!!

Today we had our level II scan and the baby is measuring right on track and all is looking good. The doctor even switched the screen to 3D/4D, which was great. We got some really nice pictures. I have a glucose test next week and then a more detailed organ scan in 2 weeks.

Sabi - how are you doing this week? Hope all is going well and that you are looking forward to your test on Tuesday! Sending you PMA and baby dust!!

chriss & carolyn - Has it sunk in yet? You are really pregnant!! So happy for you both!

Hi to kelly, JDC, gigi, evergreen and anyone else who might be reading along!

Summer: Thanks for all the good advice! Glad to hear things are going excellent with your little baby(girl) I think it's going to be pink! Lots of doc appt's huh? are you tired or moody?

Pooh: Hang tough girl! Summer goes fast & b4 u know it Aug will be here. Like Summer says- get those things done that are on that dreaded list & kick back & enjoy the summer!! Will you be able to choose your donor? I'm sorry, I forgot if the donor is affiliated with the clinic or not.

Kelly M NO poas for me!! I think I would freak if I saw a BFN...although I secretly want to. Gotta keep up my pma.

Stef:Welcome aboard! Looks like you are going to have a busy & interesting summer. How fortunate you are to travel across the pond to receive treatment. How did you learn of this clinic? I live in the states too.

Jen babes, JDC & chris: Thinking of you ladies & sending you warm wishes. Jen, went back to beginning of thread & read epigenetics & referred these pages that you & Carolyn B wrote- really fantastic stuff!! The other gal on the other thread now has to go de route & I thought these pages would do her some good. Carolyn B should be expecting Sam pretty soon I think! Finally!

I'm hanging in there getting fatter by the moment! eating to much & missing out on all my bike riding & walking. Have lots of "symptoms" I sure hope the BFP beats af!!!!!! Keep me in your prayers! Going away for the weekend so I'll catch up on Monday!! Enjoy your weekends!

PMA, stickies, babydust, patience dust, good health, & peace of mind to all of us on this wild ride!!

Wow! Wow! Wow! :D I thought I would drop in & see how you ladies are doing & am happy to find so many of you pregnant. I am sooooooo happy for you & the "soon-to-be pregnants" as well.

My little ones are getting bigger & busier by the day. They are learning quickly & it is exciting to see daily changes. If you think you love those little ones while they are inside you, just wait; it only gets better!

Would someone be so kind as to give me a summary of who all is currently using this forum & their info. I am sorry, but many of you will also soon be deprived of time too.

Do we need to do AF dance for you ?? .. my drugs were exactly the same as yours too for my DE cycle .. August will soon be here !

carolyn - good morning! I am very impressed with your list!! Great job! Good that your memory is still working -- just wait till the pregnancy brain hits! :D
Hope you are feeling good and still in a euphoric high. I'm sure you will just melt when you have your u/s! Take good care and have a great weekend.

LuAnne - so nice of you to check in and give your support to us!! This thread is alive and well and filling up with BFPs! Such great news, isn't it? So happy to hear that you and your twins are doing so well.

Stef - thanks for filling us in a little bit on your story. Prague is a wonderful city, I never would have believed it if I hadn't seen it for myself! I live in Germany, but haven't yet made it to Berlin!
You are absolutely right that a DE cycle is much gentler on your body and therefore (at least for me) less stressful. The 2ww is unfortunately still the same -- endless!

Sabi - have a great weekend away! Keep up your amazing PMA! Looking forward to your BFP next week! The hormones can get the best of you at times. I've been lucky and have only had a few days when I probably should have just stayed in bed!

We still have no idea what its going to be! My doctor knows for sure. I seem to be outnumbered thinking and dreaming it is a girl, everyone else in my family thinks it will be a boy. DH goes back and forth! My doctor always scans so fast over the tell-tale area.. :D Last night the baby even rubbed its eyes and even grabbed onto its foot - unbelievable what you can see on the u/s!

to gigi, poohgirl, JDC, jenB - hang in there girls! Your cycles are quickly approaching! Thinking of you all.

to chriss - Thinking of you and your little ones! You'll soon have to give in to the tiredness, but I hope the m/s stays at bay. Take good care!

to kelly - have your twins started saying anything yet? How are you all spending the summer?

Have a wonderful weekend egg-heads!

Hi everyone! Everyone seems so cheery for a Friday!

Summer the scan sounds wonderful!

I just wanted to thank everyone for their encouragement, I did find out that as long as the donor is okay to go right away they are good with her going again--whew--so we should be ready to go in August, since we are a week or so out from July it isn't so long of a wait. I can get off all the wieght I gain with the estrogen:-) Sabi I did get to pick the donor--who looks a lot like my husband--since we are doing donor sperm we will get that to look like me:-)

I hope everyone has a good weekend!

I am sooo excited reading this thread. I feel the positive energy. I appreciate the updates, Wishfull. It is very helpful. I have tried to go back & read a few older threads here & there to bring myself up to date a little.

Chriss - While reading the older posts, I saw one you posted about ambivolant feelings towards DE. I understand, but I assure you, you will bond w/your babies the same as every other mother. After carrying them inside you & having a fierce sense of protectivenss, you will hold them in your arms & see how truly perfect they are. You will never have another doubt, trust me. I could not have produced anything as perfect as what I am blessed with. Besides, there is a good chance your ex-yoga instructor used DE too & did not disclose that. A lot of people don't, you know. You are right about what is meant to be will. If I had a baby w/my own eggs, I would not have these two & I do not even like to think what my life would be like without them. One last thing, I am soooo happy for you, but not the least bit surprised. I knew you would get your BFP when the time was right.

Hi LUANNE,
It's great to hear from you. Thanks for taking the time to write. I have to tell you as time has gone on, I've felt more and more sure about DE. I know that it was the right thing for me. As I got closer and closer to my actual ET, I wasn't thinking about it much at all. As soon as those embryos were in me... I felt so sure. They are me. Thank you for sharing with me how you feel. I have no doubts that I will feel the same. I'm glad you are doing well, you sound so happy. Keep in touch with us.
XOXO
