Angram- Wow...Audrey is deffinately not food deprived :P Gracie started night waking again and starting to eat every 2.5 hours again as well ( she was up to 4 hrs) so I am wondering if she is ready for solids? I know that the Dr said if my milk can hang on until 6 mo and she was getting 50/50 to start solids at 5 months, but if I lost my milk before then to go ahead and start solids. I am going to start when we get back from OH. I plan on making my own food. I bought a Magic Bullet, I heard they are great for making baby food. I just need to get some books.
I rock Gracie to sleep every night. So many have told me that she needs to cry it out, but my Dr said that if she is waking at night and going back to sleep on her own there is no need to try cry it out until she is old enough to understand. Unless, I didnt want to rock her, I enjoy it so I am in no rush to change, especially since I took the boob away from her. She also said if I did decide to let her cry it out not to do so until she was 6 months. I've been working with her every night on self soothing, she is doing good! I am hoping by 6-7 months I will be able to put her down and she go to sleep.

Well off to ohio. hope everyone has a great holiday!!!

Hi Everyone

Just checking in...Happy 4th of July to all the American ladies!

DD was born in Feb and she is just a wonderful little girl. I am still exclusively BF simply because she won't take a bottle. Exhausting but every time I get tired and frustrated I remember it took us 7 years to get her!!

Delighted to read everyone's updates with the exception of Neffi - I hope you have loads of love and support to help you through what must be a horrendous time.

Take care

cwrj00 - So happy to hear about your daughter and enjoy breast feeding, it's such a wonderful experience.

Well Audrey is doing wonderful and could not be more beautiful, if I say so myself :) We're doing well and just started giving her rice cereal at night, per our doctors suggestion. She's eating a little, but wearing most of it, after 3 days. She's sleeping 7-8 hours straight, so hopefully her tummy is getting a little more full and it's better than waking up every 2 hours to eat. She's rolling over both ways now, grabing every toy she can find, and eating it :), and is just overall a very happy girl. We're having a great time with her and we're so amazed at how fast she is growing and changing.

I hope everyone is doing well.

sleeping at night

Post by nwquiz »

Ladies am having a time with my son. He will not sleep more than 4hrs at night. so still getting up every 2-3hrs to feed. sometimes its the night feed just wants to put the boob in his mouth and fall asleep. tried giving cereal but it made no difference. I see angram you are doing good on your end. any tricks to try. by the way he is only breastfed. at day time he does not seem hungry and only drinks about 4oz a feed.

nwquiz,

How old your son is? I have this issue with my son (5.5 month) also. I have been too lazy to change anything since it was painless for me to get up and have him on the nipple and fall back to sleep once or twice per night. However, we now have decided to move him upstairs to his own room soon which will be a problem for me to get up many times a night since our room is downstairs. So, I am going to try to pick him up and rock him to sleep without nursing him in the middle of the night.

I did this to my daughter when she was that age and it worked well, after few nights, she stopped night waking.

Good luck!

Hi to everyone else.

nwquiz - I was having the same problem and my pediatrician said Audrey was probably waking up but not needing to eat everytime. That same night I just tapped her bottom when she woke up (she sleeps on her tummy) and she went right back to sleep. We went from eating every 2-3 hours to going 6-7 hours, eating, then back to sleep for another 3-4 hours. I also started feeding her cereal at night, but that definitely has not helped her sleep through the night yet! Audrey was also eating 4oz, but I now put 5oz in her bottle during the day and she drinks the entire thing. Maybe try upping the amount he's eating before bedtime, give him cereal, and then just tap his bottom when he wakes up. If I picked her up and gave her the boob, she'd definitely eat. But she seems ok with me just tapping her back to sleep most of the time. Our routine is cereal around 6:30, bath around 6:45-7, then breast feeding and asleep by 7:15. She was going to bed around 8 each night, but she is rubbing her eyes now around 6:30, so I'm moving her routine up a bit to see if that helps. Oh yeah, she seems so tired lately that she hasn't been nursing for as long at night, so I'm trying to start earlier so she eats more and sleeps longer.

Not sure if any of this will help, but I hope so. I'm waiting for the all night sleep, but we're not quite there :)

night feeds

Post by nwquiz »

thanks for all the suggestions. my son is 4months (18weeks). i tried the night cereal and the third day i was so sorry for it. he woke up vomiting and pucked the whole night. that scared the crap out of me almost went to the Er. but the oncall nurse told me to watch hime since he had no fever. Now am not sure i want to continue cereal all together. so we are back to breasfeeding only. Will try tapping his little buddy. mine will only sleep on his stomach since he was brought home. my pediatrician said its okay based on the old way of raising kids but said ( am a member of peds org) so dont hear that from me). Anyway its a challenge coz am working full time now. but will give it a try after this little episode we just had and let you ladies know how it goes.
thanks again.

nwquiz - Oh my goodness, I'm so sorry to hear he got sick from the cereal! Does that mean he's allergic to it? I hope he gets better soon and starts sleeping for you, I totally understand. I also work fulltime and it is exhausting getting up every few hours. I don't feed Audrey every few hours anymore at night, but she still wakes up and our wireless video monitor kicks on and wakes me up.

Audrey still isn't too impressed with the cereal, but she's eating it every night and had some for breakfast this morning too. I'm so excited to start trying vegi's as well, but going to wait a little longer. Think I'm going to buy the Beaba Babycook and see if I can make my own baby food :) Anyone else planning to make their own food?

cereal

Post by nwquiz »

Angram i tell you it has been a challenge for me. Well just got ride of the whatever it is. the doctor thinks it was a stomach virus. Now am scared to reintroduce cereal again. But he is back to waking up at night more times than usual just to be cuddled. By god this boy is challenging. I have tried to ignore him but he just screams louder and louder so i end up pickinghim from the crib and he will not stop untill i feed him. I tried letting hubby pick him and rock him back to bed but it does not work. Oh well hope this ends soon.

Imblessed: as for baby food you can make it real simple. Just buy you a good blender. Then cook single food without all the spices and salt and when its cook(overcooked) put in the blender with the juice or water and blend it real fine. that is all baby food is but yours will not have all the preservatives. Am planning on making my own baby food. You can do that even for the fruits. just peel them and blend them. Remember to add alittle milk or water to moisten it to the right consistency. (am a dietitian and that is what we tell out clients).
oh well hope we shall get the sleep thing right.

Hi everyone.

Thank you all for the well wishes after our loss. I am dealing with the loss of my recent pregnancy only becasue I can wake up each day and look at my beautiful son. He is the light of my life and if I didn't have him, this would be a horrible time in my life. But, I cannot worry about the things I cannot change and we know our baby is loving us from heaven.
Jack is doing great! I am sorry to hear that some of you are having problems with eating and sleeping. We are having issues with sipping up alot lately. But he eats well. He has been eating cereal and oatmeal since 4 months, and loves it! Now he eats all the stage 1 foods.
He has been sleeping through the night since 4 months and it just keeps getting longer. Sometimes he wakes up and needs his pacifier, but goes right back to sleep. He became a good sleeper once he rolled to his tummy.
He is moving all over the place and is almost crawling. I love that we can put him in the high chair now, it makes eating so much easier.
He was really fussy this weekend I think he is starting to get teeth. Is anyone else getting teeth????

ANyway, I hope you are all enjoying you summer!

Hi all,

I'd like to share some pics with you all. DS still wakes up after more than a week of effort - not feeding him in the middle of the night. His bottom two teeth broke through last week and I think more are on their way, which does not help at all to sleep through the night.

He started solid (cereals) at 4 month but then we quit for a while since he did not like it anymore after 3 days. We reintroduce cereals at 5 month and now he is almost 6 month old. He started to eat stage 1 food - too lazy to make our own, although we are $400-blender owners, LOL!

Enjoy parenting, everyone here!

Children - your children are absolutely beautiful, thank you so much for sharing! I cannot believe he has already cut 2 teeth, poor thing (both of you, actually :)). I think I jinxed myself by posting last time on how I could get Audrey to sleep better at night, she's been waking up several times since then. I'm thinking about starting stage 1 foods here soon, the cereal just doesn't seem like enough for her these days. I was planning to make my own as well, but just can't seem to find the time. Maybe later :) Glad to hear things are going well with you.

Hi all, hope everyone is well.

angram,

You forgot to mention that I am beautiful too !

I jinx myself EVERY SINGLE TIME whenever I post good things about my kids. So, I am more cautious now when I tempted to "brag" about them.

Both of our kids are in the daycare at daytime while I am working, full time. As a consequence, they are constantly being infected which is the main reason for them not sleeping through the night. They often don't have fevers so we really don't know when they are infected. We often find out by their scheduled checkups.

After the last post, I felt a bit guilty by having such a good blender but not use it much at all. So I went ahead to boil few carrots and then blend them in tiny amount of water in which I cooked the carrots. It looked and tasted so much better than the baby foods that I bought from supermarket. I think I will make my own baby food from now on.

Please keep posting parenting tips everyone. Thanks for sharing!

Hi Children, my apologies for leaving you out last time..you're beautiful as well and your daughter looks just like you :)

Last night wasn't as bad but tonight Audrey managed to throw up every ounce of food she ate, so we'll see how long she stays down. She is also in daycare fulltime, since I work, and has had one cold so far. I did get a letter last Friday stating one of the kids was diagnosed with the whooping cough, so we're freaking out about that and hope Audrey doesn't catch it.

A friend of mine is purchasing the Beabe Babycook for me at a discount tomorrow, so guess I better get to making baby food soon :) I have no idea what I'm doing most of the time, so guess I'll just add this to the list. I feel like I'm flying blind when it comes to what to feed babies, when and how much. I'm giving Audrey 2 tablespoons of rice cereal in the morning and at night, but not sure when to increase this amount. Anyone else have any good tips on the food situation?
