Hi Ladies -
Had my first scan today. The baby is measuring just right and has a heart rate of 141bpm. We are thrilled!!!! The doctor also saw a second sac, but it was empty so this pregnancy has another vanishing twin for me. It is much easier though this time. With my first pregnancy, we lost baby A at 11.5 weeks after seeing the heartbeat and all. We are sooooo happy to have one great one!

CONGRATS EYCI! That is awesome news!

I currently have 2 babies in there, but very concerned about the possible vanishing twin syndrome.

Hey was nuchal translucency screening recommended to any of you and are you going ahead with it?

Sammycat - The risk for losing a twin is no greater than the chance of losing a single. The biggest factor, for a twin or single, is if the baby is measuring correctly and has a good heart rate. Once heart rates are seen (at the correct bpm) and the babies measure correctly, you only have a 4% chance of losing a baby, twin or not. With my first pregnancy, at 8 weeks Baby A was measuring 4 days behind Baby B... it was about a 25% size difference. That gave me about a 75% chance of it vanishing, which it did. Had Baby A been measuring correctly, it is unlikely that we would've lost it. Hope this give you some reassurance.

I think so far only Alexis and I are the only single pregnancies. Very odd (but wonderful for all of you!) I was really praying for twins this time, but my last pregnancy was pretty horrible at the end and I almost died in childbirth so maybe God knows best to bless me with a single.

Julie,

Thanks for the info regarding vanishing twins. It was reassuring. Right now (or at least a week ago) the babies were both measuring right on target and both with a heartbeat of 162. So your information is very appreciated.

I'm not sure why there are so many twins in this group, but one healthy baby is such a blessing as well. It very well could be God's plan since you had such a hard time in childbirth last time. Sorry to hear about that...sounds very scary.

I, like you, have been trying to conceive for many years (9). So any number for us is considered a miracle.

I wish you a very happy, healthy pregnancy!

I am currently 8wks 3days and have started wearing maternity clothes. My jeans do not close around belly area and everyone says I am already showing. Dh said the other day "Wow I didn't really take a good look at that growing belly. You are definitely big!" My scrub sets do not fit!! Is it because I am getting fatter? What do you guys think?

Rosario,

I'm sure with three of them you are showing sooner than the rest of us. I just started wearing maternity clothes this week. My whole belly looks fat...not a nice bump like you see on prego people. I often wonder if I'm just getting fat too. Maybe you get what looks like belly fat first and then a nice round bump? I don't know, but I don't like this "transition" stage.

Yeah, I totally know what you mean. My belly is definitely getting bigger. It's weird but I seem to be getting it mostly above my belly button, not below. Is this what you guys are experiencing also?

Rosario,
I started a new job where they hand out two sets of scrubs. I laughed because the mediums I swim in and the small I can't get over my hips and belly! I told them to "give it up until after the babies!"

What type of work do you do?

I have my next U/S tomorrow... We are taking my 10 year old dtr with us and surprising her with the news of TWINS tomorrow... I can't wait! I feel like a kid waiting for Christmas!

Happy to hear from everyone and hoping all continues to go well with you. I will try to update you all tomorrow with measurements and HB.

My belly is also bigger above the belly button. Initially it was just a pouch bellow the button, but over the past 2 wks it's become a lot bigger above the belly button. I've got two pouches one above and one bellow the button....not real flattering.

Acornmom--can't wait to hear the reaction of your 10 year old. Let us know.

My first OB went very well. No u/s but it is scheduled for Friday at 1:15. They did some blood test, pap, took my history. I was there for over 2 hrs. I loved the place. The only problem is not only do I have to worry about my babies and my health but now I have to worry about all these appt I have to go to. I was going to speak to the person in charge of human resources but didn't get the chance to.

They want me to go to a prenatal nurtritionist since I am carrying Triplets and also consult with a specialist regarding some background on selective reduction (which I intend to not even listen to). There is some concern regarding my twins since they are most likely sharing a placenta. They will make a final decision on this on Friday since I will be a day short of 9 weeks. If they are sharing a placenta that will put me at a higher risk or complications down the line. Twins who share same sac and placenta have a 50% survival rate.

Well I will definitely keep you guys updated. It will be a long journey and its finally hitting me that I am pregnant. You guys should see my belly. I am showing already and I am almost 9 weeks.

Hey all,
The latest update is here.. my dtr found out today when we took her with us to the ultrasound. Just prior to going into the office DH gave her a paper that said
The time has come for you to find out.
What we having been talking about.
The answer is simple and the clues have been there
but obviously you tried not to stare.
Once you are taken inside with the others you will find out you are getting……
Then we waited until we were in the exam room to give her the rest which said "you are getting TWO sisters or brothers!!"
She read it and read it and asked if we were pregnant then kept asking "Really, really" she looked like she wanted to be excited but was afraid that we were playing a joke with her.. Once she finally realized it was true she beamed ear to ear. THEN.. she got to see them and hear the HB and was really amazed! It has been quite the day for her! She told my side of the family (immediate) tonight at supper and boy were they shocked! I was so proud of her for keeping the secret all day!

OK for the updates
Baby A: went from 18.8mm last week to 24.2 this week! HB 171
Baby B: went from 18.9mm last week to 23.6 this week! HB 168
