Well ladies, the day has come. I'm on bed rest for at least 8 weeks!! That's when I'll be 24 wks and the babies will be viable. I can't imagine I'll come off then but that's what we're looking at now. I had a pretty scary day. When they went to measure my cervix it appeared to be open! Even after moving the wand around the longest length she could get was around 1.2 cm when it should be between 3 - 4. So I was rushed over to the women's birth center at the hospital next door and they sent me to a delivery room. After being in there for an hour we were told we got sent to the wrong place. Finally made it to the right place just to be told I needed to drive to UNC Chapel Hill (about 45 minutes away) to be seen immediately. It was completely crazy! All the while we're getting mixed messages. The u/s tech first said "it doesn't look good". Even told me it may be too late for a cerclage. The next nurse seemed to be rather pessimistic as well. The 2 doctors however, had completely different attitudes and were more optimistic so we were just completely confused. Finally made it to UNC and the doc is getting a different reading (1.9 cm) which still wasn't good but she didn't see any opening. So I was told to go on immediate bed rest (modified...I can at least move to my recliner but no more working ) and I have to go back next week to see if a cerclage will be beneficial. I was surprised they didn't just do it but she said she felt confident about sending me home and waiting to see where things are next week.
The babies still look good and haven't been disturbed at all. I'm just exhausted!!! What a long day.

Cynthia - I'm so sorry to hear you're on bedrest! That would have been so scary and confusing to be bounced around to different places. Hopefully the doctor is right that bedrest will help. If it helps the babies, that's all that matters. I'm not sure if I've been measured. If they measure via u/s, I've only had the ones on my stomach lately.

cymplicity27- OMG that must of been so scary to go back and forth. I'm glad your babies are doing fine. So sorry to hear about the bedrest but you are doing whats best for them. I'll be praying for you, keep us updated!
Cynthia - I'm sorry about the bedrest and all the ups and downs from the other day. Just try to relax and have positive thoughts. I know is hard to be in bed, but think on the goal.
Thanks ladies. I really don't mean to be such a downer on the thread. How is everyone else doing? I've been feeling pretty good the past few days so maybe the resting has been helping. I have another appointment in the morning.
aims, they've gotten measurements with the belly u/s but lately they've been doing them all vaginally...i guess it's little more accurate for the cervix. Basically I'm said to have an incompetent cervix.

cymplicity27- I'm so happy you feel better, I hope your appt. will go well. Let us know how it goes. I'm feeling good, I'm getting lots of back pain lately but other than that I feel pretty good. I have a ob appt next week but the big scan will be in 3 weeks (hopefully) I'm getting so anxious to find out the gender I'm going crazy lol
I hope everyone is doing good, anyone is having any u/s coming up?
Cymplicity, Glad you are feeling good and the babies are good. How is the bed rest going so far? I'm thinking of you and hope all goes well.
Dys, I can't wait to find out the gender too! I have my next OB appt. on 7/9, but they probably won't do the big scan until my appt. next month on 8/4. I can't wait to see what everyone is having! I keep thinking I will have a boy since I read so much stuff about boys being more likely with IVF.
I'm still getting those darn headaches. I'm also still tired alot, but not as bad as in the 1st trimester.

Well we're definitely having a boy and a girl . We finally heard the word 'definitely' instead of 'most likely'. My anatomy scan still isn't until next week.
We met with a really good doc today who was really informative. He made us feel a little better letting us know that his last 2 twin deliveries were women with 'short' cervix and they carried to term. I'm still, however, getting the cerclage. I have that procedure Thursday morning. So although I've felt optimistic all along, we feel even better today! He even hinted at me coming off of bed rest if things look good after the procedure

Oh, I've also been prescribed progesterone suppositories, once a day at night for the remainder of the pregnancy. I haven't used the supp before. Gotta be better than PIO though!

Cynthia whew! Another step in the right direction!! Let us know as soon as you can how you're feeling after your procedure Thursday.... do you think you'll still be able to make our rendevous in August?
How is everybody doing? I was out of the country for about 2 weeks visiting my father who is critically ill. He was diagnosed with liver cancer and is undergoing chemotherapy.
I got back to united states last Sunday and just quickly glanced at all the posts. Glad to know that everybody is doing great.
Welcome to the newcomers!
Cynthia - sorry to hear about your experience. Hope you are resting well and keeping yourself during your bed rest. A boy and a girl is so cute!!! I am happy for you.
I still need to catch up a lot with others.
I had my OB appointment today. I was worried about the baby because of all the travelling, but the baby seems to be doing good. I have the anatomy scan on July 21st. Can't wait to find out the sex.
