Entertaining your baby

Post by PMApsy »

Hi!

Jérémie is nearly 3 months old now (end of the month). In the last few days, he started taking shorter naps. He seems more awake and aware of his environment. This amazing, but... when he gets bored and wants a change of scene, I don't really know how to entertain him other than placing him on his playmat or in his car seat so he can watch whatever I'm doing. I often lie down with him and talk to him, but that's about it.

He still gets bored and I don't blame him, lol! :D

I'm sure entertaining him will be easier when he can control his hands more and grabs toys, but now?

Ideas anyone?

Have a good day!

Sophie

I started reading books around two months. She loved to look at the pictures then, plus they say that reading/talking to them early on helps them to talk. She also loved to just sit outside and listen/watch the birds. We did tummy time, make faces, sing and she loves yv.

Hope that helps!!

PMA-
So excited that your little one is here! I remember being pregnant and reading about your IVF disappointments, so it's so nice to see you asking 'mommy' questions. My little guy is almost a year old! Soooo, I needed to entertain a 3 month old not too long ago. It's challenging and I remember that!

Do you have an electric swing? That always calmed Eliya down, and allowed me to get stuff done, or even (gasp!) to take a break! There were times I will admit to having catnapped (in the room with him) while he slept in his swing.

When you need him to 'switch gears' because he's become a bit stir crazy (and so have you), take him for a nice walk. Late afternoon is perfect for this, esp. when other moms may be congregating at the park so you can engage in adult conversation. He'll love the fresh air as well, and it tires him out for sleepytime.

Also, play date anyone? Find out about 'mommy and me' groups in your area. It's usually more for mommy than for baby, although even at a very young age, babies are fascinated by other babies, and even just a change of scenery.

Lots of luck, and enjoy your yummy one!

Hello ladies, congrats on the arrival of your little angels! :D:D:D

Dakota,

Thanks for your suggestions, I will certainly try showing him books. :D We started reading him stories from the start, actually, as part of his bedtime ritual, but we didn't really show him the books and its images. I'm sure he'll be interested.

Sharishu,
Thanks for your post as well! :D I don't have an electric swing and I don't need one, as Jérémie falls asleep on his own without any help. Both my friends who had one told me I didn't need one if he took his naps on his own. He has a vibrating chair though, and up until now he's been happy in it. We have two dogs, and we all go for a long walk every evening after dinner, so I'm not too prone to taking him on another walk during the day, I prefer staying in the house and do stuff there. However, you remind me that I may look for other moms in the area, I'm sure they're there, somewhere (there aren't so many kids in our vicinity, and they're usually school age). You can be sure I'll keep that in mind!

Okay, time to try some fresh air! I'll pop a burrito in the microwave and we'll all go outside, dogs and cat included!

Take care ladies,

Sophie
