DHEA

Post by to_have_fun08 »

I was wondering if any of you took DHEA when TTC. If so do you think it helped your cycle?

Thanks!

Hi Chris-
I took and still am taking DHEA, hoping to add a sibling for our DD.

I found this site this [w/r/t DHEA]: http://www.centerforhumanreprod.com/pre ... aries.html

also see this article
http://www.acudenver.com/articles/ArticlesRL1.pdf which points to a study from 2000 in Human Reproduction, reporting that DHEA administration of 80 mg./day for two months improved
response to ovarian stimulation after controlling for gonadotrophin
dose.

But as always talk with your RE about these articles and the use of DHEA. I was very lucky in that my RE respected me as an informed patient and we came up with tmt plan to include my supplements. I suspect the plan was not too far from what she would have decided to do if I was not supplementing.

I believe it improved my chances [knocked off a few layers of dust off my eggs, hahaha]. In the end we were blessed with our beautiful DD. Now we're trying again.

Wishing you all the best,
Catharine

Thanks Catharine,
I have asked my RE about DHEA. He said he didn't believe it could hurt but doesn't think it will help. I go to SIRM and most of the RE there believe that DHEA actually hinders the development of the eggs.
Right now I am trying to determine if I want to cycle again with my eggs or do donor egg. If I knew for sure that DHEA would help then I would cycle with my eggs again. This is more then likely my last cycle so it is a tough decision.

Chris-
yeah the jury is still out on DHEA. I'm of the thought of positive thinking. In my case, I focused on it working. Are you doing acupuncture? My RE also had me go in for acu at least once a week. I chose a chinese practitioner. Again, positive thinking, I felt great after each session. It's better than a deep tissue massage. I'd fall asleep during the tmt and then take a nap afterwards once home. The acu is to promote blood circulation to the reproductive organs: uterus, ovaries and the such. It is also to improve our chi. Why am I telling you all this? what ever you decide to do, focus on the positive. Put your faith in it. Push all questions aside. Believe. Above all never think of the could haves, the would haves and the should haves. They do not matter. The here and the now is what matters and thats where your positive energy needs to be.

I wish you all the best.
