New Here Please advice

Post by digg123 »

This my first post and apologise if it is long.I have been reading this forum for a while now and find it very helpful and morally boosting.I have gone though my first ivf this june with 2 embryos day 3 transfer and was negative.I will be doing my FET next month.

I am 29 year old with endometriosis, pcos and my left ovary is slightly attached to uterus.Hubby is perfect 32 year old.We have been married for 7 years and are trying since then with lot of failed clomid cycles.I was advised to go for ivf instead of iui fearing ectopic pregnancies due to endo.I have 3 frozen blastocysts graded AA,AB,BB.I would like to transfer 3 of them because I want to improve my chances. My RE wants to transfer 2 .I have no insurance and have paid out of pocket. If this one fails I would like to go for IVF 2 instead of another FET with just one embryo left.

Please advise me If I should transfer 3 as I am really confused and want to desperately have a baby. What did all of you do in my situation.I appreciate all your support and help.

I'm not sure how helpful I can be, but with the grade of those embies, I would only put in two, as would my RE. Most will not, under any circumstances, put in more than 2 blasts (did they have them go to blast before freezing, or did they freeze them on day 3? That would make a difference). Hang in there hon! (((hugs)))

I had 3 frozen and they were going to put 2...but then the second was not that good a quality in the end. not bad but so so.... and the other thawed was very good so my doc decided NOT to risk putting 2 - the one with the bad quality - as it mght jeopardize the good one...So in the end they put ONE and I am now 6 weeks pg...I also had 2 ectos before this and this time ultrasound shows that it is OK for its time and well (not growing elsewhere)...

So it only takes ONE! Never doubt what one good emby can do! I also had an mc when they put 2 a few years back and one was growing very well but the other not and doc says it coud have caused both to fail later on..... So just sharing my experience...All women are different but this was my story...NEVER GIVE UP ON even just ONE EMBRYO!

By the way when I had the ectos and the mc they put 3 all the time, all good quality, got BFP´s but nothing worked! So there is NO guarantee! Now with only ONE and an FET even....everything looks good.....I also think you shouldn´t freeze youre left over emby too long and just use it first before starting fresh again...my opinion....If it survives thawing and is a good one, it could be your miracle! :D

Thank you for your replies. This really will help me rethink my options.

Dogzrule- congratulations on your BFP and yes mine are blastocysts.

Tris-Congratulations to you.It must have been hard to go through ectopics but your story gives me confidence for one embryo transfer.

Thanks and YES as you can see in my experience Ive been through worse! almost everything possible...even lost twins when they looked so fine!! with 2, 3, 4 embies no matter how many and how good quality...still nothing over 5 years trying!...and yet theres HOPE even with ONE!! I just didnt give up and and am NOT! Im already planning the next step, and the next...haha! Youre also still young! dont give up if it doesnt work now. So in case you go through hardships that we all do with IVF, keep the faith girl! cuz if youre really willing to push...youll get there....Good Luck and Im sure you´ll have success :)

By the way I just saw this BBC documentary last night called "OLDEST MUMS IN THE WORLD!" I dont want to be that old by the time I have kids of course (oldest was 70++)...but those who succeeded did so because they had faith + a strong determination (Super strong will power for that age!!) ....inspirational!

digg123 - I really feel for you, my husband and I are the same ages, also married 7 years. :) At the clinic we went to, at 29 they would not transfer 3 unless I signed a release saying that I would do selective reduction if all 3 took. I didn't sign that release and therefore have only ever had two implanted. We had 1 transferred (BFN), 2 FET (BFN), finally success with 2 on a fresh cycle.

I have to admit that in your position of not having health insurance (with ours the IVF is 100% covered) I would probably re-think the option of selective reduction in order to have all three implanted on this round. You make a valid point that with only 3 left, that would mean your paying full-price for a FET with only one embryo - most likely the lowest grade one. Yes, it only takes one, but there's a reason they so often transfer more than one. I think that if I was in that same financial situation I would really want to transfer all three, too. Is your RE completely unwilling to transfer 3?

Hi sweetie! i am 23 and we just finished our 1st cycle and are currently in 2 week wait. We ended up transfering 3 embies on day 3 with assisted hatching. Our cell count was low though for some reason. we had 1 6 cell and 2 4 cell embryos. I would talk to your hubby and decide if you are really up for the challange of triplets or possibly more. Me and dh prayed alot before we did it and our doctor was not happy at first but ultimitaley it IS up to you as you are the one that has to face the outcome for life ya know? We find out aug 3 if it works. I agree with haveing him put the 3 remaining frosties in that way you dont have 1 random frostie if this one doesn't work

Wondercat--I have to discuss the same with RE once again. On the day we met I just said yes to transferring 2 and then started thinking about 3 embryos just to improve my chances and also to avoid FET with low graded embryo.I will probably not sign a selective reduction as it involves the risk of loosing the rest.

Tiffy-My hubby wants me to go for 2 embryos to avoid any kind of risk. Here its 3:1 ratio hubby and RE on one side and me on the other. They will probably win.

Being in my twenties like you my doctor wouldn't even consider putting 3 eggs back in. He really wanted to put one back in since doctors really only want one healthy baby. But I transfered two and both took, now I am pregnant with twins on my first round. This was something my husband and I both discussed since like you we had to pay for IVF out of pocket and I didn't know how many rounds we could afford and since we don't have any current children twins were ok with us. It is actually nice to know that I am down and don't have to go through IVF again. Another thing to consider is we had male factor infertility, I am perfectly fine and from what I understand male factor tends to have a little higher success, so it might be a little harder for you with the endo. Its really something you and your hubbie have to discuss, if your ok with multiplies I say go for 2 or 3 since I was in the same boat as you IVF is expensive!! and emotionally draining.
I hope everything works out for you I will be sending lots of baby dust your way.

digg123, with you fairly young and good quality blastocysts, I think two is a good idea. One thing that hasn't been mentioned is that with more embryos, the chances of an ectopic implantation go up, and if that happens, any that have implanted normally will be lost too.

Keep in mind that FET is much less expensive than a fresh cycle. If implanting two doesn't work, and you don't want to do FET with one next time, you could do a fresh cycle and perhaps get more frozen embryos as well.

I think your chances with two are pretty good, assuming no ultrasound visible endometrioma. If you have an endometrioma, you might want to get it taken out first.
