Offering up some hope for you all

Post by KESSA »

I am the luckiest women ever, in 2007 I did my first IVF ICSI (transfered 2 embies) and got a BFP my beautiful daughter is now 20 months old.
After waiting a long time to "get back in the system" (NHS waiting lists) I have just completed my first FET and got another BFP.
A bit about my FET: we only had 4 embies in the freezer (created 6 from the fresh cycle and had 2 transferred leaving 4) I wanted to transfer 2 again as if we hadn't the first time we may not have got the BFP, so 2 were thawed, only 1 survived and 1 cell has suffered ice damage, I was told this embryo could still be transferred it would just have to work a little harder to make up for it. So we thawed the other 2 and neither survived, I was quite surprised and the clinic did say that was a higher than normal failure rate (this was before the new freezing process of vitrification was available) I was dissapointed that we only had one and that it had damage, but at the same time I was so thankful we had that one as it could all too easily have been a different story.
That one embryo was transferred and I started the hellish TWW. When you've had success first time round your thinking can go either way "can I really be that lucky a second time or am I pushing it?" or "well it worked the first time why not now?" I was swinging between the two but the matter of the one embryo having had cell damage played on my mind again two thoughts "if it's survived the freeze it's a tough cookie" or "well it was blighted from the start" but it was a tough cookie and it held on and I got my second first attempt BFP, I feel like the luckiest women ever, that doesn't happen to many people and the clinic were quite surprised too, at least I'm good for their stats
I have my scan on the 28th July I can't wait to see that tiny heartbeat, until then I'm still nervous and can't believe it's real, I keep staring at my HPTs (did the tests today 12dpt3dt)
I haven't had any major symptoms so to speak, that's the same as last time (I was convinced it hadn't worked first time) I did get cramping and when I got that this time round it gave me some hope that the little bean was burrowing in :) and I have felt the need to wee first thing in the morning stronger than normal, I wake up needing to go and it's not the sort that you can ignore  other than that not much else, the nausea didn't kick in till about 8weeks last time and didn't go till 15weeks.
I feel incredibly blessed and will never take for granted how "easy" (I use this term loosely) this has been for me compared to some.
So I just wanted to share my story to say you can get a BFP with only 1 embie transfered even if that embie isn't perfect and you can get lucky when trying for #2, no symptoms doesn't mean a BFN.
I hope I've covered all the important info but if I've missed anything you'd like to know just ask.
GL to you all still trying, stay strong.

What an encouraging story!!! Thank you so much and congrats. I am currently going through my 1st (and hopefully ONLY) ivf cycle, and reading your outcome brings me even greater hope. The ER is set for Wednesday, although they want me to come in again tomorrow (I was just in this morning), so who knows, they may change it to Tuesday! Congrats again on your BFP!!! :D

Kessa, frankly speaking "You Deserve this Grace from heaven" just as we all pray for. Congratulations!!!!!!!! Our prayer is that we will also benefit from it. Looking at your Stats, i am sure you have had some discouraging words from the very day you developed the thoughts of even hoping to have a Baby. The God we serve is telling us all to remain hopeful in his own time he makes things Beautiful. i wish you all the best in the pregnancy and may it be as successful as ever.

Before I sign off do you have any tips, for successful implantations that you will like to share, some do's and don'ts peculiar to you. :D :D :D Mally

Thanks everyone, one week till my scan I can't wait to see the little bean! I've started feeling quite queasy now.
Baby dust for you all!
Mally- I didn't do anything particular, but I did take 2weeks off work, 1 week for ER/ET and another week to just chill out and try and relax, I didn't make any plans for that week, other than that, no crazy little quirks

Kessa congrats for ur BFP. I feel very relaxed to read your story coz i m almost in the same conditions as u were. I got BFP in my first icsi cycle and God blessed me with twins(boy and girl). We are doing natural FET this time but with single embryo. I knw its my second time and God gave me two angles before but i cant stop thinking in these 2WW. This is hilarius time.
I had embryo replacement on 21st july and test date is 6 aug but i m feeling period like pains today. i just cant stop thinking that last time it was 2 embryos thats y it worked , this time only one , dont knw it ll work or not coz it ll be our last attempt coz we cant afford another cycle. even though we have 5 embryos more in storage.
but when i read ur story really i felt a relief that single embryo can work as well.
Best of luck for ur scan...
