Dear Barb,

At the beginning you expected to be on bedrest at 20 weeks, and here you are already at 25 - Relax, think positive. I've got everything crossed for you.

Thinking of you and wishing you all the best for a smooth delivery of your little miracles in the coming weeks.

BarbD,
You’ve done an amazing job so far and dodged plenty of bullets, so I’m sure everything will continue to be great for you and your growing family. Hopefully, you’re an avid reader and can find some enjoyment in your bedrest. I’ll keep looking for the latest news. I’m sure you’ll be the first to go of all of us October Moms so you can be an inspiring leader for us.

Twinmom
Good luck on your glucose. It sounds premature to worry. I’ve read that the weight estimates are usually not that accurate so it probably doesn’t mean a thing.

Summerbaby
We have a bid on a house, but we won’t know until next week. Our fingers are crossed.

I am not overly worried about my weight, but doc did tell me not to gain too much. I can’t help it – I’m always hungry. I also started out about 10 pounds over my normal weight since I hadn’t lost everything after pregnancy last fall. I’ve heard breastfeeding helps drop the weight, so I’m really hoping that’s true. =

Thanks for saying you like our names. A few have fallen off the list, and we have a few more ideas, but still working on it.

Don’t worry about your doctor’s caution. We have just started to buy some things. I was a little nervous, but DH pointed out that if anything bad happens at this point, we’d be so upset that we won’t care about the money spent. It may sound glib, but I think it’s true. After such a long road, I think all of us deserve to start enjoying and acting like other expectant mothers.

Good luck on your glucose and iron. Both sound under control.

Hi Siouxsie,
Congratulations on putting a bid in on a house. Hope everything falls into place and that you'll soon be able to settle into your new home before the baby arrives! Take it easy with all the packing!! I've only been packing up one room to make room for the baby and it is taking me forever!!

Everything else seems to be going well here. We are going away for about a week, to enjoy some time together as well as a welcome change of scenery.

Barb - hope you are still hanging in there and doing well. Got my fingers crossed that you will hold off meeting your triplets for as long as possible.

Hope all the october moms are doing well! We are headed into the homestretch! When are everyone's due dates?

Take good care,

Hey October Moms! Sounds like everyone is doing really well. I just wanted to check in as it's been awhile since my last post. The twins & I are doing well, although I'm getting more & more uncomfortable as the weeks pass. I've started doing at least half of my work from home, which has been nice. Our nursery is just about finished. If anyone wants to check it out, I have a blog. It's thehammontrees.blogspot.com. Does anyone else have a blog? I have taken 2 trips to L&D for false alarms. Anyone else a frequent flyer yet? The first time, I was feeling lots of increased pressure (this pressure has never really left...i think the babies are just getting heavy) and the second time, I was worried I was leaking amniotic fluid (turns out it was just increased watery discharge...gross, I know). I feel that every week is a blessing. We've all made it to the 24 week viability mark and seem to be going strong. I'll feel really good after 30 weeks. My scheduled c-section is on October 20th (38w6d) which is pretty late for twins, but we shall see. My guess is they will be here more towards the beginning of October. Joannet & Molly, are you having a c-section? Barb, I am thinking of you frequently, hope your babies wait a few more weeks before entering this world. And hope bed rest isn't too awful. Have a good week everyone!!!

Hi ladies. Hope everyone is well and hanging in there.

Summerbaby~How is your week of checking your bloodlevels? Hope all is well with that and it isnt GD. My twins 15 months old.

Shelly~ I am sure you will go before 38 weeks. Usually with twins there will be a cause for them to induce/c-sct early. I had mine at 34 weeks due to low amnotic fluid. That is great you are almost done with the nursery. I will have to check out your blog. I also have a blog (www.dannerandsawyer.blogspot.com) We havent started our nursery yet.....ugg

AFM~ Passed my glucose and lost 3 pounds last month. I did have a +1 protein in my urine. They just said something to keep an eye on. HOpefully not the start of preeclampsia but so far my bp is fine. I go Aug 4th to the peri for growth check on the baby.

ANyone having a shower soon?

Hi October Moms

Post by joannet »

I hope everyone is progressing along well.

We've been on bedrest for 3 weeks now. Looks like I have a weak cervix. It was long and closed up to about the 24th week and then at my 3 week check up at the Peri it was 11mm and funneling.....

So we've been given steroids to help the girls lungs develop and I've been on bed rest. I am using the time to get the nursery ready for my girls, so it's been a bit of fun.

Today at our Peri checkup they weighed 2lbs 3oz each.....which made me very happy, and my cervix had shortened to 9 mm. We are hopeful to make it to 34 weeks.... 6 weeks and 2 days to go.

I am hoping the talk my OB into a vaginal birth since both girls are turned in the head down position, but my OB is a cutter.....we shall see what happens.....

Shellyj5 the nursery looks beautifu. You are way ahead of us on the planning phase....good luck....you also look great.....

Twinmom, our nursery looks a bit more like yours (heehee)......hope all is well with you and your little bundle of joy.

All other October moms, hope all is well. Molly - how are you? How are your twins?

Hi October moms!

shelly - hope you are feeling good. Sorry to hear about your trips to the hospital. We'll be visiting the hospital for a tour later this month. Your nursery, and you as well, look so nice!! I wish we were so far along! My c-section is scheduled for Oct 15th (38 weeks + 2 days).

joannet - Your bedrest sounds modified if you are able to still work on the nursery, which is really good and keeps you in a good and positive frame of mind! Do hope you can avoid any other complications. How is your son? Is he getting excited? I just watched a program here on tv about a woman with twins who had a vaginal birth -- all went quite well for her, and I hope the same for you!

twin mom - congrats on passing your glucose test! My levels were within the normal range for the last few weeks, then while away on vacation, they started rising in the morning. Now that I am home again, they are back to normal-- I saw the diabetes doc this morning and now have an appt with the dietitian to see what we can do about the problem times. Still seems to be a borderline case, that could change status!

Enjoy getting your nursery ready! Have you found it difficult not knowing what you are having? I'm excited for the surprise, but would still really like to know...

siouxsie - how are things going with you? Are you guys moving right now? Thinking of you and hope all is well!

Barb - hope you are managing on your bedrest and that your babies are all doing well and have decided to wait a few more weeks before making their grand entrance. Thinking of you.

Molly - haven't heard from you in a while. Hope all is well with you and your girls! Send an update when you have the chance.

Take good care everyone, we are almost there!

Thanks for the good wishes. We are still working on finding/buying the house. Despite the news reports, it’s a very competitive market in our city. We are on our 7th – hopefully final - bid. I thought we’d hear Monday, but we’re still waiting. So, I’m terribly behind on the nursery. Currently, it’s a stack of boxes with baby things in my closet.

Had a dr’s appointment last week. No ultrasound, but everything looked good. My levels were fine in the glucose test. My feet are very swollen, though. I’m looking now for a childbirth prep class. And we’re going in for the hospital tour on Sunday.

Hope your trip went well and your nursery’s coming along.

shelleyj5
I’m jealous of your finished nursery. It looks great. With twins, I think all your organization and advance planning will pay off.

Your scheduled c-section is my birthday.

Twinmom
Our shower is August 22. How about you?

By now, you’ve probably put the weight back on. I know I feel bigger everyday. Hope all looked good on your peri appt 8/4.

Joannet
Sounds like there’s not a lot of bed in your bed rest, and it’s great your having some fun. It’s hard to believe it’s so close. The girls are growing!

Hi October Moms to Be,

Well we had an OB visit yesterday, all was well. Looks like we'll be on bed rest till the end. I am allowed to do the hospital tour on Sunday, so that's a blessing. I think my last post may have been misleading, I am mostly directing the setup of the nursery :) .....(I am doing all the purchasing online and having my husband do the pickups and setups, where necessary)......it's a ton of fun and chaos all at the same time......

I see the Perinatologist on Tuesday of next week, let's hope all remains the same with my cervix and that the girls are more than 3 lbs....

Summerbaby
My Joshua is excited to see his new baby sisters...and a bit wary of all the stuff that has to be purchased......How are you doing? Hope your nursery is coming along as you hope......How was your trip?

Shelleyj5
Hope that you are having a pretty uneventful time and that your twins are doing great. Are you set with a C section?

Siouxsie
Good Luck finding the home of your dreams, I totally understand the stress involved in finding the right house, in any market. Hoping you find the right one before the baby comes.

Twinmom
How did the appointment at the Peri go? When's the shower? How often are the Drs checking on the potential for Preeclampsia? Hoping all is well with you and your little bundle.

Barb
I hope you and your little bundles are doing great.

Molly
Haven't heard from you in quite a while. Hoping that you and the twins are doing great.

Well we are hoping to make it past the 35th week. I've joined my local chapter of Moms of Multiples and I've been learning from the other moms that the longer they stay in the better they will do in the early days. The women of the group have been a great source of information.

Hope everyone has a wonderful weekend. I am hoping to get my husband to go up the the attic to pull down the few things I did save from my 1st.

Hi Ladies. Hope all is well with the mommies-to-be. I am good. Dr appt was fine this week. Baby is measuring 3.4 pounds....so in the 80th percentile. Sounds big, huh. Everything was measuring 2 weeks ahead which very well may be the case since I didnt have normal periods and wasnt sure of my due date. However they will leave my due date the same which gives me longer to go into labor on my own. I want to attempt a vbac this time and they wont induce. Blood pressure was fine - actually too low- so not sure what the protein in urine is all about.

Joanne~ I have told all my friends NO SHOWER. You couldnt believe all the baby stuff I have with having twins. I have no room for anything else and have everything I could possibly need. Great job joing the MOM club. It has been such a lifesaver for me. I started playgroup in mine for my age kids which is more for the moms when they are young but it is so supportive. It is hard to listen to moms with one baby trying to compare their life to yours. And great when you have someone to talk to who is going thru the same thing. And the thrift sales are great. I feel your pain with the bedrest. I had to order everything for twins online and have hubby and friends organize and set up.

Summer~ Glad to hear the glucoe levels are looking a bit better. Have you been to the dietician yet?

Sioux~ We arent having a shower this time around. I already have so much baby stuff that I have no room for anything else. We might have a baby party after baby comes more as a welcome.....

Hope everyone has a great weekend....

Thanks for the well wishes. We also had our hospital tour Sunday. I was impressed, especially with some things I had read can be issues in big hospital births. i.e. there is no nursery anymore (except for intensive care) so the baby is always with you, space for partner to sleep etc. Hope yours went well and you enjoyed your big day out of bed.

Twinmom
Honestly, the baby party idea sounds more fun anyway. I loved Summer’s mention of a “baby showing.”

Hi October moms!

joannet - directing all the activity can also be fun, but I am sure part of you also misses the hands-on - Hope you are doing well on your bedrest and that you enjoyed your tour of the hospital on Sunday. We go on the 27th of this month, so still a few weeks away.

shelley - how are you doing? Hope all is well.

twinmom - sounds like all is coming together for you. I also suffer (pregnant or not) from low blood pressure and just have to drink, drink, drink and keep my salt intake up. How often are you going in to see the doctor at this point?

siouxsie - hope your last bid was accepted and that you guys can stop looking around and start planning instead...Everything will fall into place, I am sure. We aren't even moving and are still working on clearing the space for the nursery, which is only a corner of our bedroom for now! As we get a side cleared out, we bring up something for the baby -- so, about halfway there now...the cradle is still in our living room and when we can move that into the bedroom, then we'll have accomplished something! By the time we get there, I am sure you will be all settled into your new place! :D
Glad you found the hospital tour helpful. Have you started the birthing classes yet? Are you still practicing yoga? By the way, I also have a birthday in October - on the 24th.

Barb - hope you and your babies are well. Thinking of you!

I've seen the dietician this week and she gave me a few helpful tips and a really nice cookbook! My blood sugar has been really normal except about 2x/week in the morning, and then not even sooo high. The doctor still calls it borderline. I go in every week to see him. I was also at the ob/gyn and the baby is measuring about a week ahead in terms of weight, which she contributed to my blood sugar and is monitoring me. I go in now 2x/week for an NST and see her every 2 weeks -- Glad I am not working right now, because I am always at the doctor!

Enjoy the rest of your week and stay well,
xx summer

It’s been a while so I thought I’d check in and see how everyone’s doing. It feels like some of our twin Moms are probably getting pretty close.

Summerbaby, hope your sugar’s holding steady.

My last doctor’s visit was 8/20 and everything looked good. She’s weighing in at 3lb 13oz which is about right for her gestation. I’m feeling good and am getting bigger and bigger. My only real trials are the incredible swelling of my feet (I can literally only wear flip-flops – I had to buy the nicest leather pair I could fit into for work. Ekk.) -- and frequent acid reflux. Overall, I guess that’s not too bad.

Me and DH have been taken some prenatal classes through my HMO – how to recognize labor signs, breast feeding and so on. We’re still on a waiting list for Lamaze. I’ve decided to try to go drug-free if possible.

Had a shower Sunday and got all sorts of adorable, tiny things. It turned out to be fun after all, but I’m glad its over. We’re still going through the wringer on the housing front, so if nothing breaks soon, we’ll need to start setting up in our current apartment.

Hi Siouxsie,
Nice to hear from you. I was beginning to think our thread would soon fall off the first page. You are probably right that all the twin moms are probably in the last stages of getting ready! We are all getting so close!

I hear you with the feet swelling. It is awful isn't it? Shoes or sandals that I could wear a few weeks ago I have no chance with these days...Hoping when the weather cools down a bit, that that might make a difference as well. And with the heartburn - it strikes when I least expect it. Just uncomfortable, but managable... And with 7 weeks left, I can't imagine how big I will be by then!
My sugar is in check, which I am happy about. And the baby's heartbeat scans I have to have 2x/week are also all coming back normal. The baby is measuring about a week ahead, so my ob/gyn is keeping a close eye on that.

Happy to hear that you enjoyed your shower and got lots of nice little things! I still have to wash the clothes that I have. Hoping to get to that today.

Sorry to hear that the house hunting is still exactly that, a hunt....Was thinking you might be in the thick of things because you hadn't been on for a while. A while back we were getting new neighbors, and the woman was pregnant and exactly on moving day, she went into labor -- All turned out fine in the end, but I can imagine how stressful that day was for the whole family! I'm sure you'll make the best of your situation, no matter where you are living. Your little girl will only have eyes for you anyway at that point! But, I know being settled in somewhere would be the ideal situation.

We toured the hospital last night and found it to be very informative. They also recommended that we participate in a birthing class, because they do give a lot of post-birth information and relaxation techniques as well. So, I will look into that. Our hospital always tries for a natural, drug-free birth -- but has a prearranged back-up plan just in case. The midwives here deliever most of the babies, and the doctor comes in when things look like they might get complicated.

Hope all the October moms are doing well!!
Take care everyone!
