I'm new to the IVF board. I am a mother to a 17 month old son from our 1st cycle of IVF. We are currently trying for #2. Over the past few days, my follicle count is about 20 & my estrogen as skyrocketed (3425) after my last dose of Repronex & Gonal F. I took my trigger shot last night (half the dose) in anticipation of the egg retrieval tomorrow. They're worried about OHSS with me. I might have to wait a few months now & do a frozen embryo transfer so that I don't develop OHSS (as pregnancy worsens it).
I was just wondering if there is anyone else who has been in this situation. A friend of mine was in this situation last year & they transferred 1 blastocyst despite the clinic's recommendation to wait a few months (she was fine & delivered a healthy baby girl).
Any suggestions? I'm tempted to just go through with the transfer...
Do not dismiss the seriousness of OHSS at all and I would follow what your clinic recommend. Having said that my estrogen result just before trigger was 8000 and we got 12 eggs. I had been coasting to reduce my estrogen level from 12000. I triggered with full dose.
I did get mild OHSS which made the 2ww quite bad. The last week I was in pain and breathless BUT I got my BFP and would repeat the same again.
Good luck whatever you decide.

20 follicles is on the cusp of where OHSS risk starts to become significant.
But there is no perfectly reliable indicator of who will get it.
Freezing all the embryos is a common method for reducing OHSS risk, and it has been proved effective at reducing OHSS risk (specifically, it eliminates the chance of late onset OHSS, and eliminates the chance that any early onset OHSS could be continued by the hCG from the pregnancy). How effective it is at achieving live birth depends on your clinic's success rates with frozen embryos. They vary widely.
The "half-dose" hCG seems to reduce OHSS risk a little, when compared to the "full dose".

They were worried about possible OHSS for me too. I had 17 eggs removed on Sunday and am waiting to see if my levels come down enough for transfer on Friday. So far no signs and symptoms that are worrisome and clinic seems like they are going forward with that transfer date (so far).
I did a half dose of meds for the last 4 days and a half Hcg shot. Lets just hope that did the trick and my old estrogen levels will be WNL!!!
Good luck, I'll be thinking of you!

3 day transfer 7/29 (3 7cell B grades)
No embies left to freeze
HCG test: 8/10 (stuck in the 2ww!!!!)
Thanks for your replies everyone! My clinic ended up going through with the cycle & I was given half the usual dose of the hcg injection. We got 11 eggs (all mature) & 10 fertilized. We ended up transferring 2 8-cell embryos on 7/1.
Now we're just waiting for 7/15 for my beta! I just did a HPT this morning & it was negative (only 6 days post-transfer) so I'm kind of losing a bit of hope. Last time I got a + HPT 6 days post-transfer with my son, but it's probably too early to tell....

It's very rare, even in pregnant patients, to get a + that early.
