Swine Flu

What is everyone's opinion about the swine flu vaccine? For those of you that will be pregnant during flu season, do you plan on getting the vaccine?

good question. just starting my first ivf and i'll definitely have to consider it if i get a BFP. i'm not sure what i will do yet. to my understanding the results are still out on the human trials and won't be in until late september. i need more info to make a decision. but obviously, it's a concern.

Most drugs take 7-10 YEARS from development to FDA approval. It takes this long with all of the human trials to demonstrate safety and efficacy. This drug will be developed and approved in under a year. NO WAY have they demonstrated safety and efficacay in my mind. The FDA is going ahead with it because if they don't give approval, and an epidemic/pandemic breaks out, they will look bad for not approving it.

I am NOT getting the shot or the regular flu shot either since the majority of flu shots contain thimerosol (mercury).

Just an aside: I think they should have included school teachers on the list of vaccine recipients.

The vaccine is expected to surge once schools are back in session. Students will be major vectors.
Avoid IVF and surrogacy in Ukraine. Ukrainian centers pay shills to post here under numerous sock accounts pretending to be patients in Ukraine. Centers using such deceptive advertising cannot be trusted and should be avoided.

Ghost- I agree, I am a teacher and teachers and other school employees should be on the priority list. There were many outbreaks in schools this past year and they are expecting much more for the upcoming season. Although school districts are trying to prepare, kids are huge carriers of these types of viruses and every year, whether it is swine or some other new virus, it will run through a school in no time.

I have gotten a flu shot every year since I have been working in a school, even 2 years ago when I was pregnant. I am pretty sure I will get this h1n1 shot if I become pregnant, but I do want to hear more about the testing first. It can be very bad if a pregnant woman catches any strand of the flu.

GHOST, what are your thoughts on the safety of the swine flu shot? Is this just like any other flu shot in terms of safety?

I am pregnant with twins (9 weeks), have asthma, and an allergy to thimerosol. I was thinking of asking my obgyn about it. I believe you can get a thimerosol-free shot, correct?

I have no clue on that one.

Hi Mellie_123,

I have a similar situation as yours...I'm also pregnant with twins and asthmatic. I don't have an allergy to thimerosal but, will do anything to stay away from it. Husband has is a strong family hx of autism. I am a health care provider and know that they say there will be preservative free (no thimerosal) swine flu vaccine available, but I believe even those have small traces of thimerosal present.

Do you ever get the preservative free regular flu shots?

No, I just never get the flu shot. Haven't had the flu in years. I rarely get sick, though.

I did ask for the thimerosol-free shot one year but they didn't have it and by the time they could order it flu season would've been nearly over.

I'm gonna ask my obgyn at my next visit.
