1st birthday - CAKE?

Post by riogirl71 »

So we are not supposed to give them milk or eggs but is it ok to do it on their first b-day cake? What are some ideas and what did you/are you making for a 1st b-day cake?
thanks!

Well, my dr told me that milk and eggs are allowed at 1 year, and ella's party will be 3 days before she is one year old, so I am thinking it is safe for her to have some cake. Since I am doing a luau, I am going to order the cake from sams club, have them do something hawaiian themed with a part of the cake that will come off so it will be her own little special cake. This is the part I will put on her high chair and hopefully get those horribly messy first birthday cake pictures we all dream of!

If you do not want to do a regular cake, if you do a google search for "first birthday cake" or "healthy cake" you will find a lot of recipes that do not use eggs. Many substitute applesauce instead.

Rio,

My doctor said whole eggs are good at 9 months, before that only whites. Whole milk at a year, so you should be okay with his first birthday cake. Isn't it just so hard to believe that first birthdays are coming up. Boy time is flying.

I might try a little egg here and there and a little milk to make sure it doesn't bother him, I would hate for him to get sick with his b-day cake! I also heard that Cherrybrook brand at whole foods does not have any allergens...

thanks for the tips!

Well I will be the "bad" mother. As you know, my girls had cupcakes at their first pictures and ate a little bit and it did not kill them. Eggs are ok at one as is milk so "let them eat cake!" lol. We are doing cupcakes and I am not putting a lot of icing on theirs as they do not need that sugar. I might only give them a couple of bites of a cupcake....I do not need another sweet tooth in the house!! :D
