It looks like I'm gonna be behind since most of you are already taking the birth control pills and I haven't even gotten a day when to start. Do I need to have af to start the pills? or it can be done mid cycle? I'm so lost

hey ladies! welcome to everyone who has just joined. this site and everyone on it, is tremendously helpful.

hope this weekend was good for everyone. i started lupron on friday and so far no symptoms. is it too early for any symptoms? the first shot was the worst. dh has vowed not to help me at all b/c he is so uncomfortable with needles. BUT he watched the video with me and was really supportive when i was giving myself the shot. it took me about 5 minutes to get the courage to stick the needle in. when i realized it didn't hurt, the next shot was a piece of cake.

i went to acupuncture yesterday and they gave me herbs to take. has anyone taken herbs while going through ivf? i thought i read somehwere that since the effects of herbs on IVF is unknown, it is not advisable.

jaydentd - You'll be right on track with everyone. I've decided that the doctor's put us all on BCP to get us on their schedule. Last time, I was on BCP for 2 weeks before starting the shots. This time, I'll be on BCP for 6 weeks. Don't worry - you're right on schedule. :D

cheryl010120 - Welcome!! We have a beautiful daughter from our first IVF cycle, and we're also hoping for a brother or sister with this next cycle. I see on your signature that your son was born 6 weeks early. Our daughter was born 7 weeks early (I developed pre-eclampsia) and spent the first month in the NICU. Did you have a similar experience?

mjay - I swear I did not have one single symptom with any of the meds. last time. (Of course, DH says that he just kept his mouth shut - smart man) I kept waiting for something to happen, but it never did. Maybe you won't have any side effects either. And GOOD FOR YOU with the shots. :D :D :D :D :D I'm a big baby, and DH has to give me my shots. I just couldn't bring myself to do it. You're MUCH braver than I.

mjay - my RE advised against herbs (actually he told me NO herbs) because their effects are not really known. He said he doesn't think they are bad to try when trying to conceive naturally with no interventions or meds. He said that it is the interaction of the meds and the herbs that concerns him. I'm glad your firs couple of shots went okay!

shari - even though you aren't planning on cycling until October I hope you stick with us!

Cheryl - WELCOME! How old is your son? I am doing a FET this cycle. Can you tell me a little about your FET cycle?

jayden - i had to wait until AF to start BCP during my first IVF cycle. This time around I have been on them for almost 2 months. They just put me on them right after my FET got canceled in July. Has your doc given you an estimated schedule for the cycle? If not, I'm sure you'll get one soon. Are you supposed to call your doc when AF arrives? I remember having to do that before they put me on BCP. I had to call when AF came and had to make an appt. for blood work and ultrasound for cycle day 3-5.

Michele - Glad to have you with us. I have everything crossed for you that you don't get canceled again!

Shelby - How ya doing? Have you started BCP yet?

wolffie - been busy working and canning tomatoes this weekend. I don't have to take BCP this time around. Thank goodness! They put me on Yaz on my first fresh cycle and it made me so nauseated and fatigued! I couldn't figure out what it was until it was time for me to quit ( I thought it was the prenatal vitamins). I absolutley LOVE my clinic! They are so nice and very reachable for any questions or concerns I have, so when I told the IVF coordinator how bad I felt with the BCP, she talked to the Dr. and said I didn't need them. I'm just going straight to Lupron. Again, I can't believe we are so close in our times! That is awesome! You can be my teacher!

mjay - my RE also advised me not to take any herbs. All I do is my baby asprin, 4800mcg of folic acid, and a prenatal vitamin. After I start the estrogen, I'll also take a stool softener (sorry, probably TMI).LOL. You are ahead of all of us and that means you will get your BFP first!!!!! Woohoo! How's the Lupron going?

Jaydentd - Good Luck on your sono today! "Now this may pinch a little..."

Miyaya - Still thinking of you and your surgery on Thursday. Best of Luck girl! Tell us what the Dr. says!

Stats - Still Dancing for you!!! Is the old hag here yet?

Turtle - When do you start BCP?

Hope everyone else is doing great! I'm off to work! TTYL

Good Morning Ladies....

Shelby... the chart looks good!!!

CT-Michelle... Nice to hear from you. DO u remember me? I was with you in the Jan/Feb cycle. I got my BFN for the 2nd time :o( Well, this time I am going for an FET in Sept. Hope it all goes well for us. Good Luck hun.

I have a question. I am getting my meds today for the FET. I am not gewtting so much this time around, but I am still getting quite a few. The RE ordered... DelEstrogen; Aspirin; Heparin and POI. I didnt get and Lupron... is that normal? Do they place u on Lupron when uj r doing an FET? I am wondering before I call the RE just to make sure. I have a new pack of Lupron from the last cycle JIC, but I figure they would have started me on Lupron this month... but I am only taking BCP and next AF I will call so they can give me my scheduleof meds. Once AF starts, when should I expect FET? About 2 weeks later? Like a normal cycle? Maybe I should have asked more questions at RE appt...

I also had my heart broken again this weekend... :( I have a SIL who is my age (32)... she is a baby making machine. I wish I was her.... well, she is pregnant with her 7th child. Bless her... but I know she does it for the wrong reasons. Me and her had rivalry since the day I got moved in with her brother (15 years ago). She has always know that I sturggled to have a baby. So she would always rubb it in my face when she would say, I am going to go make a baby... the folling month BAM she was knocked up. Well, she had always wanted a Girl, so when I got PG in 98, she went and got pg at the same time. I knew it was so that I wouldnt get so mucgh attention, this being my first and she was on her 3rd. Well, I told my self that if she did it out of spite, she was going to have another boy... well, I got my girl, and she got her boy. well now she has 6 boys and 1 girl finally.... well, she always complains that she is broke and she struglles.... last month she asked about my IVF... well here she rubbs itr ina gain, she is going to make another baby... well, I found out this weekend that she has succeeded again!!! I know she does it to hurt me. and let me tell you that it sure in hell does. :( Well, I hope the best for her, but I hope the Lord Blesses me too.

I got my saline sono today and it was so uncomfortable, my doc couldn't find my cervix. :( She keep trying different tools to see if she can reach, she said it was very high. I felt like something was poking my ovary. She also did a practice "transfer". she used the same caterer she will be using during the transfer just to see. I didn't know I was getting that done today. Did any of you get the practice/sample of transfer done? I never heard of this before, but at least I know what to expect that day. I came out of there bleeding and crying but I'm ok now. Thank you girls for all of your support, is nice to know I can share with someone going through the same. Soon we will be sharing our BFP together :D

Lady-J- Sorry you have to deal with someone like that, she's very cruel and only someone dealing with infertility can know how much it hurts not to conceive. I haven't told anyone that we were ttc or about ivf. When family or friends ask why we don't have kids I always say maybe next year.
Shelby- thanks for your good wishes
J&C and wolffie- I didn't get a schedule yet. I don't get my period on my own so I don't think I'm waiting for af to start. My medical doctor hasn't send my medical release letter because she was on vacation, so I'm guessing this is what they are waiting for.

jayden - sorry the sono was uncomfortable. The first one I had wasn't comfortable either. It was actually pretty painful. Anyway, my RE has always done a practice transfer at the time of the saline sono. On the bright side, you now know what to expect and hopefully that will help you relax a bit during the real thing.

lady j - I am doing a FET and will be on Lupron. I would give your RE a call, you don't want to be short a needed med. OR, maybe they didn't order knowing that you have leftovers. SO sorry to hear about your issues with your SIL. Some people can be so spiteful. My BIL and SIL are the same way. They always try to rain on everyone else's parade or try to make situations all about them. For example, when I had my ectopic pregnancy that resulted in a ruptured tube and emergency surgery they decided they wanted to come and visit when I got home from the hospital. Well, my SIL was 20 weeks pregnant at the time. They showed up bringing banana bread, asked how I was and then proceeded to tell us they just found out they were having a boy. Talk about insensitive! I left the room sobbing. I still have resentments towards them about that. Then at my wedding (11 days after my ectopic) they stood there when we were taking pictures talking about how wonderful it is to be pregnant. I have learned to try to let things they do roll off my back. I tell myself that they obviously have some emotional issues and eventually it will catch up with them. I try to be a bigger person, I don't have to love them or even like them but I have to tolerate them.

Shelby - no BCP, WOW! How do they monitor you and know when it's time for you to begin Lupron?

Jayden... Sorry the sono was so painful actually I remember now, mine was torture also. My right ovary area was burning so bad. I don't have my left tube so I figure the reason my right side hurted was cuz the solution came out the tube to the ovary therefore making it uncomfortable. But yes I agree it was more painful than they described it to be. My RE has also tried the practice transfer... the first traner he had my legs stirred up, the 2nd transfer he had my legs back; my knees touching my chest. I guess because my cervix is high too. Either way, I think a prtactice one is good so that they don't struggle when it is time to put your babies back in.

wolfee... I just called RE, so I will just wait for her to get back to me now. Hopefully it aint to late to start Lupron if it is required, I will be so upset!!!

As for my SIL, yes... I only told my immediate family, and we told his mom... but his mom is a big mouth and told his sisters too... My DH got upset so for this FET I only told my mom and that is it. ANd since his mom has not asked, then I guess she aint too concerned. Sorry about your in-laws too... but you took the words right out of my mouth "I try to be a bigger person, I don't have to love them or even like them but I have to tolerate them". COuldn't have been said any better.

Lady J- Of course I remember you! How could I forget? You were the mother hen on our thread...and after we both got our bfn's, I joined june/july, then got delayed and joined july/august, and I sort of took your lead and became a mother hen of sorts on those two taking care of "the list." Now here I am on september, preparing for another possible delay...I should here in just a couple of hours.

I think all clinics are different with protocols for fresh and FET's. Here is how my clinic handles FET's. Once you get af, you go in for baseline scan and bw and start bcp's. After 2-3 weeks of bcps, you start 10 units lupron. After 5 days of lupron, stop bcp's and continue lupron. Go for scan and bw to see if your lining is thin and e2 is low (this is why I keep getting delayed, e2 is too high) and if e2 is low start estradiol pills and reduce lupron to 5 units. Transfer will be in 3 weeks from this time, with a scan one week before to make sure lining is thick. It was a total of 6-8 week process for me.

Sorry - LONG post here.

Lady_J: I am so sorry that you have to deal with your SIL. What a brat!!!! (Trying to use nice language here.) I've learned, the hard way, to give the details of our IVF/fertility problems/etc. only to those who are super encouraging to me. My mother isn't very nice, so I'm waiting for her to ask about our IVF this round, and I'm going to tell her that she wasn't very encouraging to me last time, she gave me opinions that I didn't ask for, so I'm not giving her the details. We also didn't tell anyone, not anyone, when we would find out that we were pregnant. It was nice to keep it just between my DH and I. If it was negative, I knew that I would also need a couple of days to soak it in. My close friends who knew the details, I told them that we would know 2 weeks later than we were going to know. When it was positive, it was fun to tell them in our own time. Other than close friends/family, we didn't tell anyone that we were pregnant until the 2nd trimester. This whole fertility journey has also taught me that unless you have been there/done that, you truly don't know what someone else has gone through. People just don't understand. Some may try, but they really don't get it....and probably never will. My sister had 2 babies before we got pregnant, and I just cried and cried. She never understood why it was hard for me to come to her baby shower, etc, and it was the first baby shower that I had been to in years stayed away b/c it was emotionally easier at the time). Anyway, I'm babbling, but I'm trying to say that I understand. I'm so sorry you have a bratty SIL. Lean on those friends that are your best encouragers and don't focus on anyone else. (((HUGS)))

wolfie - Wow - what a bratty BIL and SIL too. Man, some people. (((HUGS))) for you too!!!!

jaydentd: My RE always does a practice transfer. I really didn't notice last time though as the salin. sono was sort of unconfortable. (My next one is on the 14th.) I'm so sorry your RE couldn't find your cervix - what a pain - literally!! AND my actually transfer last time was very comfortable, nothing like the salin. sono. Easy, breazy. Also, don't be afraid to call your doctor's office if you have any questions, or wonder what's the next procedure. We're all paying them a lot of money, insurance or not, so they should be open to answer any questions that we have.
