spotting while breastfeeding

Post by jennywit »

Just a question to you moms out there....My beautiful little boy is now 4 months old. I have been breastfeeding him with only a little formula supplement when needed. Last week I spotted 2 times just a little-does this mean my period is coming back? Does it mean that I may stop producing milk soon? Any advice or personal experiences would be appreciated.

I wish I had an answer for you...but I am curious as to responses as well! My son is only 5 weeks old and I had to supplement him from the start for several reasons. But I am still breastfeeding but low and behold...mother nature has decided to visit already! And there has been a definite change in "the girls" since my period started arriving.

So let's hope for some feedback on your question!

well as for mother nature my son is 19weeks and still no signs of it. Am breastfeeding 100% and was told it may take a while. but some ladies do get their cycles faster just depends on individual bodies. another thing i know am losing so much weight with the breastfeeding cant eat enough or is it am scared of gaining weight. anyone else with the weight issue?

Nwquiz, I am with you on the weight loss thing. I have lost so much weight it is pretty gross. I am not a huge eater so I can't seem to eat enough but I do try. I pump and feed my twins breastmilk that way and they are now almost 11 months. I am going to stop at a year when I can switch them to whole milk but in the meantime I have lost a lot of weight. Hopefully I will gain some of it back in the fall.

Jennywit, my little ones are 11 months (I am still giving them breastmilk) and still no AF. I have a friend whose AF showed up almost immediately after giving birth and she continued to breastfeed until 9 months - she always had plenty of milk. So, I don't think that AF necessarily will reduce your milk flow.

kelly: good to hear the same is happening to someone else. It was scaring me coz ppl are alwayus making comments that i need to stop breastfeeding since am losing to much weight. Oh well i also do hope to gain some back after i stop nursing. Mine is only 5months now and i feel like my supply is variable. I do pump at daytime and when i get home i just breast feed. But for two you are doing really good. Wish to do the same.
