Question for twin mommies!

Hello! I'm wondering if I should stay with my current obgyn for my twin pregnancy. I like her but I want to make sure I'm getting the best care. Could some of you twin mommies answer these questions for me please?

1) During your pregnancy were you sent to a specialist at any point? If so, was it routine or due to some complication? My dr did not mention seeing a specialist due to being pregnant with twins and I'm wondering if that's normal.

2) How frequently were you given ultrasounds? We were told every 4 weeks.

3) Any important question I should ask my dr? We are now at 10 weeks.

Mellie~ Congrats on the twins. I am a big fan of seeing a peri (specialist) for twins. In NC twins are considered high risk and so you are automatically set up to see one. Luckily for me they caught a short cervix and contractions at 16 weeks with my twin pregnancy. Thankfully I made it to 34 weeks. If I wasn't seeing them my regular OB would not have caught it and I more than likely wouldnt have the 2 precious babies that I have. I saw the specialist every couple of weeks for a baby growth check and a cervix check. There are so many things that can go wrong with twins....low fluid, cervix, contractions....that it is better to be safe than sorry. Good luck.

I would definitely consider looking for a twins OB. Like Twinmom said, in Ontario twins are considered high risk so I was referred to a high risk OB who specialized in twins. Throughout my pregnancy he kept telling me that I was a very low risk, twin pregnancy. We didn't have much to talk about at each appointment (every 2 weeks with ultrasound until 32 weeks and then it was once a week) but he was reassuring.
However, my delivery turned into an emergency for baby B and thankfully I was in good hands because it could have been disasterous for Baby B (I found out a few weeks later). I think having an OB who had experience delivering twins was paramount in my case.
I think they look for things in twin pregnancies/deliveries that other OB may not think to consider because it is uncommon with singleton pregnancy.
But, the most important thing is that you are comfortable with whoever your OB is. And perhaps you just need to ask these questions to your OB and see if you get the answers that ease your mind.

One question I would ask is whether you will automatically been having a c-section. Some OBs won't deliver twins vaginally and depending on your preference that might impact your decision. That is the only question I can think of right now.
