child tax credit

Post by sue.m »

Hi all,

just wanted to warn anyone who may be entitled to it that they must apply straight away, as the b*****ds at the Inland Revenue will only backdate upto 3 months. I've just lost about £300! Funny how there doesn't appear to be any time limit when you owe them.

Oh well, serves me right I suppose for not applying sooner. I knew that child benefit would only be backdated for 3 months, but hadn't realised that the same applied for the Tax credits.

Yeah I know you have to get it in before 3 months else you don't get it, mines already in so I am just waiting for payment to be made.

What annoys me is when people can get this surestart its abou £600 towards pram/cot etc... and because I work I am not entitled to it and I can't get free milk either (makes me laugh really)

Tracey - think for the working tax credit, you can claim if your joint income is less that 58,000. Could be talking b***ocks though - me needs to read form too - hate filling them in. Child benefit form is easy peasy though and will take you ten minutes - I've just checked my bank and they've given me a backdated payment of almost 100 pounds - yippeeeeeeeeeee I'm off to the pub (Aye, in my dreams  )

I think that £58000 is right. But they initially base it on the previous tax year. So we were at first told we would get nothing because it was based on us both having OK incomes. When I pointed out that now that I'm only working occasionally whereas I previously had a full-time management job, they eventually agreed that we should get the minimum £545 a year. But it took forever and lots of 'phone calls and letters to sort it out.
