I'm a psychologist (and IVFer!!) who specializes in medical anxiety (for example, claustrophobic people who need to have a pet scan and are terrorized). I would really like to know what medical interventions or exams scare people the most. It would greatly help me target the best tools that I need to develop in order to help them.
So, what medical intervention scares you the most (ivf-related or not) AND WHY?
Here are a few examples:
Injections/blood work
Surgery (specify where)
Pet scan
Vaginal exam
Cavity repair
Stitches (specify where)
Chemotherapy
Radiation therapy
Mammography
Biopsy (specify where)
What medical intervention or exam do you find the most painful?
Thanks a lot for your help!!! :D:D

My medical fear use to be not waking up after a general anaesthetic or waking up during it and not been able to tell them I'm awake.
Mind you having 5 GA's over the years with IVF's helped me come to terms with that but all my friends are afraid of the same thing.

How are you?? How is little Jeremie growing fast I bet!! Have been so busy no time to come on the boards so thought I would take a look in the spare evening I have tonight and saw your thread,
Well my biggest medical thing that scares me the most is having a smear test!! I can't stand them, funny we get prodded and poked so much having IVF but I still hate those things!!! So much so that I put off going for them, stupid I know considering how many dildocams have had a look around down there!!!
The medical things I find most painful are injections, again stupid as I have had a few surgerys both awake and asleep over the years but that little jab in the arm or the butt wherever it may need to go I find the worst!!!
Hi lee!!! :D:D Long time no see, it's true, but I too read whenever I can but most of the time I can't post. Thanks so much for participating to this thread; your answers are noted!
I'm doing well, and Jeremie too! Growing so fast! He'll have another round of vaccines tomorrow... now that I know how well he behaves, I can actually giggle at the way his lower lip trembles and his whole expression says "hey, no fair!!!!" when he gets the injections. But it last two seconds and he's happy again. I've been so happy to "see" you travel and make exciting plans for the future! I'm keeping everything crossed for you dear, and I'm excited for you!!!!
Love,
Sophie
