Post Progesterone Depression

Post by birdie »

I just received another BFN after FET transfer #2 and after a week I'm just feeling numb with depression. I've felt this way after each cycle ends and I stop the progesterone shots and estrace. I know that it's normal to be depressed after a disappointment but I feel like a lot of it is due to going cold turkey on the progesterone. Usually the depression lifts after a couple weeks but right now I feel like I'm going through withdrawl (of course I'm not vomiting or having the shakes or any other withdrawl like symptoms). Is this what women with post partum depression feel too? Anyone else crash and burn after stopping the meds? I just want to feel normal again!

birdie- So sorry for your bfn and how you are feeling. I think absolutely stopping all these meds just like that could make you depressed. Between all the anticipation and hope that we try to have and then getting that result that we dread, it's totally normal to be upset and down. Maybe having a wtf appt with your RE and looking to the future will help a little. I hope you are feeling happier soon.

Thanks, Laura. I think I am starting to feel better now. This has happened with every cycle and usually by the 2nd or 3rd week I being to feel the depression lifting somewhat. I've gotten so used to getting BFNs but of course there is always going to be some disappointment. I just feel that this is more related to the chemical changes that have taken place in my body rather than being depressed due to an event or mood.
