$465 for acupuncture on transfer day???

Post by nestles »

Hi!
This is my first time posting on the message board but I've been reading it for a while and found it really helpful. My husband and I have been ttc for 3 years and have had 3 failed IUI cycles. We started our first IVF cycle (with a new doc - Dr Acacio of Laguna Niguel, CA) earlier this month and we are scheduled for a 5 day transfer this Friday, 8/28. I've heard a lot about the benefits of acupuncture and was interested in trying it out. Dr. Acacio has an acupuncturist on staff who is quoting me $465 for two sessions on transfer day (1 before and 1 after). This seems really expensive, but I haven't had the time to get quotes from anyone else. I'm really interested to hear people's opinions on whether or not they felt acupuncture was helpful and how much they paid on the day of the transfer. I realize its a little late to be looking into this but thought I'd give it a shot. Any ideas or suggestions are appreciated :)
Thx!

Last cycle I was doing acupuncture. Don't think it really helped my cycle and I didn't have any embies to transfer so I can't comment about before and after transfer. I did notice that AP relieve a lot of stress which should help with implantation. I am in the Midwest so I know prices are cheaper but my AP appointments were $50 each. I think $465 is outrageous. I would look around for other options if you decide to do AP.

Most properly designed studies suggest acupuncture has no effect on outcome in IVF patients.
Avoid IVF and surrogacy in Ukraine. Ukrainian centers pay shills to post here under numerous sock accounts pretending to be patients in Ukraine. Centers using such deceptive advertising cannot be trusted and should be avoided.

In New York city, the regular accupuncturists charge $60 to $90 per in-office session (about 45 minutes). The accupuncturists in posh clinics with nice pillows charge a little over $100.

I've seen $200 rates posted for house calls, or special sessions outside of normal business hours, in New York. I guess that includes travel time, away from other clients.

If time is not super-critical, maybe you can see someone at their own office before, at regular rates. Mine charges $75 - I just did one session after work today to de-stress, so I feel really good now, and for sure I will sleep well tonight.

Enjoy the experience!

p.s. If you haven't tried it before, it is normal for some of the needles to sting for a second, but after you lie still for a few minutes you will feel tension begin to disappear. .......I'm a total fan!

I had laser acupuncture done and felt really, really relaxed after it. We were charged $200 for the one treatment. We didn't get a positive pregnancy result but I thought that it was nice to have since I felt apprehensive before the transfer.

I live in Los Angeles and incredibly, that fee sounds about right . . . a lot of clinics charge the acupuncturist a room rental fee . . . and the acupuncturist is there before and after the ET, as well as travel time . . . you are paying for his/her time away from their offices . . . seems high, but I've been quoted similar prices . . . :?

yup i just had my FET done on Friday morning in Laguna Hills :D
Mine was $400 for 30 mins before and 30 mins after so i would say it was the going rate around here.

I'm not a big believer but my FS kept sying it was a good idea. I didnt do it for my fresh in June and that was a BFN so you have to try i guess.

Good luck i hope you get your BFP

$465 for acupuncture

Post by nestles »

Thanks for all the feedback everyone. It was tough to swallow but I went ahead, paid the money and did the 30 min acupuncture session before and after transfer. It would have been a different story if I had more time to decide, but oh well. It was convenient and very relaxing. We transfered two top grade blastocysts and froze 5. My doctor is very optimistic... I hope the next two weeks fly by!
