IVF Identical twins - No heartbeat @ 7 weeks?!

Post by dk »

I honestly am on emotional overload right now. I've had two m/c in the past, and 2 failed IVF attempts. But our last IVF we got a positive! Today I am 7 weeks 2 days, and we had the ultrasound. The doctor told me I am pregnant with identical twins -- he seemed pretty surprised. One looks really small. The other has the beginnings of a fetal pole. But no heartbeat on either.

They want to check again for a heartbeat in five days. He said my chances of either surviving are 50/50. I'm beyond sad. I'm in shock, I think.

Has anyone had the experience of no heartbeat until 8 weeks? Any positive stories out there?

What about identical twins? I understand they can develop a little slower...Anyone have this experience? I won't be surprised if no. The odds are apparently about 1 %.

Thanks so much for any insights.
