Boy names

Post by meg12 »

Help! Just found out we're having a boy. Very excited, but are absolutely clueless about a name. We just can't seem to agree on one. Figured the more names I heard, the better my chances of finding one both DH and I like. So, what boys' names do you like????

Hi Meg,
I like Nate, Shane, and Reed. Those are the only ones I can think of right now. Do you have any ideas?

We are naming our little boy Sean Charles. Charles was easy because both of our fathers are named Charles as well as my grandfather. Sean we just liked, and it's also the name my mom would have picked for me if I was a boy. Funny thing though... My aunt's second husband is Colombian and he has a son from his first marriage named Sean. So out of the blue one day my 87-year-old grandmother floored me by asking, "Why did you pick a Spanish name?" I said that we didn't, it's a traditional Irish name - perfect since with my husband's genes he's likely to have bright red hair. There was a long pause, and still dubious she said, "Sean Hernandez doesn't sound very Irish to me..." I'm not sure what it will take to convince her! :)

Try narrowing it down by the flow of the name, number of syllables, etc. This made it easier for us. Otherwise it was complete overload going through a baby book! We have a long strong last name and we knew we wanted something short, unique and with one syllable. We're naming our first due in Dec Chaz. Someone else mentioned Reed, which I also like. My coworker is due in a few weeks and she's naming her son Reed. If you have a short last name you may want to go with a longer first name. Just a thought :)

I guess I'm partial to Reed as that's our son's name.

With my dd we wanted to use my first name as her middle, and we would want to do the same if we have a son since my husband does not want a jr. So since his name is Todd, we are trying to find first names that sound good with Todd as a middle.

The ones I have come across that I really like are Tyler (Ty for short), Nicholas (Nick for short) and Jayden (Jay or J.T. for short). I have a friend who's sons name is Cayden which I like too.

Very cool website, thanks! And thanks for all the name suggestions. I think we're getting closer to agreeing on one, although right now we just call him "Nemo" because that's what my 2-year-old has decided has to be his name. Poor baby! :)
