Children- WOW, almost 23lbs and I thought my Gracie was a porker!!! It is so much fun to see all the new things they do and you just have to doat about all of them. I do it all the time

Anyone do any type of sleep training??? I was up with Gracie for hours and hours last night. She wasnt hungry, just kept waking up. If I rocked her all night long she would have slept, but everytime I put her back into bed she was wide awake and pitching a fit. Mama is very tired today and would love to hit the bed but the inlaws are coming and waiting for the bed linens to finish. sigh....
Dakota - we've been sleep training for a few days now, wow is all I can say! I had to wait for DH to leave town, as he cannot let Audrey cry and picks her up every time. I told her it was going to be tough love time and the first night she cried off and on for 2 1/2 hours! She's gotten better since, but still wakes up and cries a couple of times during the night. Nothing like the first night, but we go in a pat her bottom and she usually goes back to sleep by herself within 5-20 minutes. We do not pick her up at all, just pat her, let her know we're there, and then we leave. I'm still feeding her around 4am, but it's mostly selfish so that she'll sleep until 7 or 7:30 for me and I can get ready for work
Children - My goodness, what a chunk..I love it! It's ok to brag about your little one, I do it daily! Impressive he's pulling himself up, not too far from now we'll all be talking about how they're running around
Well I'm off to watch a little football with DH and hoping to just fall asleep in his lap. It's only 8:45pm, but I'm in some serious need of sleep and football seems to work
Angram- O'My!!!! 2.5 hours!!!! Wow, how did you not go insane?? I tried the Pick Up/Put Down method once. Gracie screamed for 1 hour and 45 mins, then it took me 45 mins of her screaming to get her to calm down, AND she still did not go to sleep. Alot of people say "oh, it only takes 15-20 mins", but I am finding more and more, its more like 1-3 hours!!! I am ready to do it, but I am not ready.
Dakota - it hasn't taken that long since, but come to find out my little munchkin was cutting teeth!! I thought that might be the case a couple of weeks ago and put oragel on and gave her tylenol, but that didn't seem to help. The night before last I felt her mouth again and bam, we have 2 teeth I feel really bad since I'm sure that's why she's been crying at night. Anyhoo, good luck to you Dakota..I'm sure Gracie is right behind Audrey!

About sleeping, I don't struggle much. I picked DS up and fed him whenever he cried before 4 month. At that time, we had non-reliable sleeping patterns, most of them were 3~4 h per sleep, some of them were longer than 5 hours. We even had some overnights without waking up, I thought that qualified to be "sleep through the night". But his frequent colds or other types of infections made him quite congested most of the time which made him wake up at nights. At his 4 month's checkup, his Dr. urged me not to feed him in the night, we tried just to pick him up while he cries, but not feed him if we could rock him to sleep. This helped a lot. Now, he reliably sleeps for 7 hrs, sometimes even for 9 hrs at night.
I don't have much of techniques, but I heard CIO (crying it out) is effective, except neither my DH nor me likes this method.
DS has 6 teeth now and more are coming.
Oh, did I ever bragged about our DS's pooping pattern here? He only poops once per day and he does it every morning on the potty! He does not have (let's say very rarely) soiled diapers at daycare and his teachers are very happy (and surprised) about it! This statement is correct except for the days that he is on antibiotics, which he had twice now. That will make him poop more often, but most of the times, he still can hold it until his butt touches the potty. He has been conditioned to his potty and he loves sitting on it! I know it's rare that infants get potty trained, but I do this early on and it is feasible!

Hi Long Lost Mommies!!
I have been thinking about you guys so much lately I figured it was a sign I get my butt back on here in check in with you. It is just so amazing to read all these sweet baby updates after knowing what you all went through to get there. I am happy to hear everyone is healthy and chunky and cute. That is all too perfect.
All is well with my girlies. Ruby is full on crawling, she started just under 7 months. Betty is the snuggler and would just rather hang back and watch. We call her the zen one. She is just happy being a baby while Ruby is already going for her pre-teens.
We did the CIO sleep training and it was awful, terrible, miserable. It took one MONTH all in. We all got colds about three days into it, then had to travel about a week after that, then started over. Betty is one stubborn little girl, she still has a bad night about once every two weeks where she will go 2-3 hours!! Mind you it isn't crying for three hours but complaining. It does no good for me to go in there and soothe her; in fact most often that makes it worse. Ruby got it pretty quickly and is good. They share a room so they often start each other off. The good part is that 90% of the time they go to bed at 6:30 and sleep until 5:30. They still get 3 naps a day too and do really great with those. Boy it was hard to get there though. I started to loose my mind a little I think. Poor DH.
I have read a ton on this so if any of you start to get into this let me know and I will help where I can. I was a little OCD on the whole thing.

Rubylee- Welcome back!!!! We missed you!!! What age did you do CIO?? Please give me all your details.
Gracie is still not crawling, but she gets on her hands and tip toes and will push herselh backwwards all over the house, get herself stuck into a corner and pitch a fit. No teeth yet. One comes to surface and then goes back down, its driving me nuts, I wish if it were going to pop do it already, enough with the torture.
Dakota - I felt the same way about the '15-20 minutes for a couple of nights' story on CIO. I didn't find that to be true in the least. Ruby got it after a couple of nights but she did cry about an hour, several times. She does slide back every now and again but for the most part is a great sleeper now. She cries most often at naps but it is only for about 30 seconds to a minute; I know it isn't much but I still wish she wasn't so bummed about it. Betty is our stubborn mule. Last night she cried 1.5 hours and usually has one of those about once a week or so. I really didn't think that would happen. Everything I read said once they got it, they got it and you just had to freshen up after events such as travel, teething, etc. Most nights she is good though. They both make noise once or twice a night. I don't even think they are awake when they do that; it is just one little cry out or something and that's it.
I finally resorted to the 'graduated extinction' method. If one of them is crying still at 10 mins I go in, pat their back and say my mantra, "it is time to go night night, I love you I am right here" and leave. I try and only stay a minute tops. If it goes for 20 minutes more I go in and do the same thing. If it goes on longer I try and hold out. It usually doesn't go longer than that with a real cry. If it does I usually go and get her because I assume something is wrong. I guess the biggest thing for me was learning the different sounds of their cries/complaints. If they are just doing that intermittent 'waa, waa' with long breaks in between I know there is nothing I can do. Even if I was to go pick them up the only thing I could do for her would be to rock her all night like Dakota has experienced. Once I put her down she will wake up and start over; I have tried it several times. That said if I lay them down and after 5 minutes it is an hysterical scream I go in right away and soothe in whatever way I can. Usually once I calm her she goes down easy. That has only happened a couple of times.
I know all the differing opinions on this and boy was it hard to talk the 'mommy' side of me into this. What finally got me was learning in Weisbluth's book about his studies on sleep patterns. How rocking or allowing them to sleep on you or with motion doesn't get them into that long restorative sleep they so desperately need. Same with going in every hour or so, which is what I was doing before I started this. They aren't allowing themselves to go into a deep sleep and the only way for them to get there was to train them to put themselves to sleep. I know of some babies that can do this right away, but I wasn't so lucky. As painful as it was I do believe it is the right thing. They need to know how to sleep on their own.

Hi everyone, sorry I haven't replied in a while. We're having built-in desks and bookshelves put in our home office, so my home system has been down for a few weeks.
We've also had a pretty sick household for a couple of weeks, and hopefully on the mend. Audrey has had a cold for over 2 weeks now, which turned into an ear infection. She's finally on some meds and seems to be getting better, poor little muffin.
Between the 2 new teeth coming in and a cold for over 2 weeks, nightime sleeping has been not going as well. Audrey actually slept through the night 2 weekends ago, it was awesome!! She's been waking up between 2-3 the past 4 nights, and staying up for 1-2 hours crying, chatting, playing, fussing. I go in a couple of times and pat her bottom, but DH can't handle it and goes in to get her. She was freaking out the other night, so he picked her up and she was silent the minute he got her He was p
issed and said there was nothing wrong, I thought it was funny. I just rolled over and went back to bed, and then told him she had him trained. He hasn't picked her up at night since I think she's getting better and has just trained her body to wake up at the same time every night, so I think a couple more nights and she'll have it down.
Other than that we're just staying really busy. Audrey has outgrown a few of her 9 month clothes, so I've started buying 12 month items and hope it lasts us a couple of months. She's absolutely beautiful and we're having such a great time watching her grow and change every single day. She hasn't started crawling, but she can army crawl and make it across the room in no time! She's also pulling herself up and trying to stand any time she can..she's so ready to walk!

Oh yeah, how much are your kiddos eating? Audrey has slowed down quite a bit on the milk (partially because she is sick), but has increased her solids. I never know if I'm giving her too much or too little. Here's what she eats:
Breastmilk or Formula - 4-5x day
Solids - 1/4 c cereal and fruit for breakfast, 1 jar each of meat and vegi for lunch, and 1/4 c cereal, and 1 jar each of meat and vegi
Nice to hear from you from time to time. It's fun to have all you stories here. DS has 6 teeth now and he starts to say things as he could express his feelings. I think he mostly wants to tell us he is tired, but all he could make was Da Da. He crawls everywhere and he pulls up on furniture also. He often falls on the floor with 4 limbs up and hits his head since I am not fast enough to catch him, poor little man.
About solid food, DS eats 2oz milk with cereal for breakfast, 1 jar (~2 oz) of vege for lunch, 1 big jar (3~4 oz) of vege and 1 oz milk/cereal for dinner. I have not started any meat yet, but plan to start with egg yolk soon. He drinks ~25 oz milk/formula per day at the moment.

Hope you are all doing well. Jack is off to have bw this morning. We are testing fro an egg allergy. Two weeks ago he ate the a tiny peice of cheese out of a stuffed shell that my sister made. I didnt even think that there was egg in there. His whole face was covered in hives for abot 30 mintues and then they went away. I wanted him tested right away to know for sure becasue if he is allergic to eggs then he cannot get a flu shot! I a upset and very paranoid about this whole flu thing. And now he probably cant even get a flu shot! WHat are everyones thoughts on all of this flu mania????

DS 7/23/14 IUI after Celiac diagnosis
Hi mommas,
Liam is growing by leaps and bounds, and its so cool to watch all of their changes. We do our library story times once per week, and have a playdate with other parents every once in a while. We're travelling for the first time to visit family this weekend, and am hoping all goes well.
He is going on 8 mos 2 wks, and from all I've heard, we need to feed him going up, and going down with the hope that he sleeps in between on the plane. I have new toys he's never seen, also hoping it helps. His 2 teeth he likes feeling with his tongue in his mouth, and loves looking at people and smiling.
On the flu stuff, I myself am not vaccinating him, or our family for H1N1. I think there is a lot of media hype which forgets the fact that influenza kills upwards of 35,000+ people in this country, each year, for many years. But, the media doesn't want to talk about that because that would be sensible (please chime in any health care workers on this thread-I think you may be required to have it?). He goes to drop-in play at our community center, and I really do think that people are sensible enough to keep sick kids out of social situations until they are better. With all that said, again I think people should do what they think is best for their own family, and situation.

Nefti- Sorry to hear about Jackson's reaction. WOW. Poor little guy. I want to take Gracie in and have the allergy test done. So far she has had reactions to oatmeal, barely, corn and dairy. I am afraid to start with table scraps because of her reactions. Let us know how the test goes.
Not sure about the flu shot. I am undecided. I've heard so many different things. I am very sided with Ftg about this, but yet I am scared to get Gracie the vaccination. With her allergy problems, I have heard of people/kids dieing from the flu shot (just the reg flu shot) because of an allergy reaction. Still dont know....my Drs office doesnt have it yet, so I still have some time to think.
Angram- so sorry for little aubrey:( I understand. Gracie has had a snotty nose and she has a tooth that is peeking through. I can feel the actually tooth the has cut through now.
DH's are so funny!!! DH cannot stand when Gracie cries!!! Men, the little girls that have them wrapped!!

Gracie is doing well. She is not crawling yet, nor doing the army crawl, but she is all over the place. She crawls backwards!!! She likes to make a triangle on her tip toes. So cute, except when she has a snotty nose, not so pretty. My Granny sent her a walker, not used it yet. I am a little disappointed we havent done this for her yet. She is not so thrilled in her jumper, maybe 5 mins, same goes for the saucer. So hopes that the walker entertains her more. I dont think she quite understands that moving her legs moves her, so maybe this will help her with crawling?
The girl is a social butterfly and loves to jibber jabber...all the time!! She is going to be that little girl who wont shut up...hehehe. Gotta love it!!! So cute. I could just squeeze her until she pops
Angram- Oh ya, the food. Gracie eats about 24-28 oz formula a day and 3-4 jars of stage 2 food. She does not eat solids for bk. She refuses, so I let it go for now. I have not started her on puffs or the sippy cup. I've tried giving her formula in the sippy but she refuses and gets so mad.
