Hi everyone,
Rough couple days. The home test I took Monday was very negative so I prepared for the worst. My beta was yesterday and my HCG was only a 3
I knew it would be negative but the whole process of going into the office and finalizing it was just aweful. It took 3 nurses and 3 attempts to draw any blood which ultimately left me late for work. I held it together until my main RN asked me how I was coping - then I completely lost it. I finally calmed myself down but I still had to leave out the back door so that I wouldn't freak any of the other patients. I'm scheduled for a consult with my doctor on Monday morning. I have so many questions. Did I even implant? I'm going to request a full immunology work out before my next frozen cycle. It has to be a chromosonal or implantation issue right? Any suggestions or questions you think I should ask my doc?
Sci Teacher - I'm so happy that your numbers are doubling!!! Keep that positive news coming please!!!
FKM: I'm praying that the spotting stops soon. It's such a scary feeling. I've done a ton of browsing and so many people on this board and others have had post beta spotting and still had success. Hang in there. How you cope is such a personal thing... there's not much anyone can say but it sure did help me knowing that tons of people were rooting for me. Please keep us posted.
Nestle
Hi Nestles,
I am so sorry about your test. I was rooting for you. I really hope your doctors can find some answers. Have you tried asking Ghost? He is so knowledgeable and so willing to share information. He has been a lifeline to me! Please continue to let me know how you are doing!
My HCG rose nicely again to 896 so I will have an ultrasound next week.
Good luck! I know how upsetting it is when it does not work. I have had countless canceled cycles and then I lost my first IVF baby at 23 weeks due to an incompetent cervix. The desperation to be a mom is so painful. It will happen and this will all seem so far away! Michelle
Hi Ladies-
I am so sorry to hear about your news Nestles. It is so devastating. Take it from me who have had 2 very early losses. The worst part is waiting for the call from the nurse with the bad news. I agree that you should get a full battery of tests. After my second chemical pregnancy my doctor ordered a hysterosalpingogram (HSG) which is an X-ray test that examines the inside of uterus and fallopian tubes and the surrounding area. Results from this test were normal. I have been put in the category of "unexplained infertility", but I am getting increasingly frustrated with my doctor because I want answers. I have the same questions that you have...is it an implantation problem or an issue with my egg quality? In my case it appears that the embryo attaches enough to produce HCG, but then seems to let go quickly. My numbers have never doubled by the second beta. Took another HPT today and it was positive. I go tomorrow for my second beta, however the bleeding has not gone away, so obviously I am preparing for the negative news. If I can be of any help please let me know.
Sciteacher77: Thanks for the info. So happy to hear of your good news. You must be so relieved. Are you still bleeding? What have the doctors said could be the cause of your bleeding? Do you have any cramps/lower back pain? Are you on progesterone supplements?
Hi fkm,
There is no real explanation for any past bleeding that I have had. My doctors think I have a sensitive cervix, but we don't know there has never been evidence of bleeding on my ultrasounds. In this pregnancy, I have not had an ultrasound yet and won't until next Wednesday so who knows why I am bleeding. I am still spotting, it had stopped but is back now.
Let me know what your next beta level is! Good luck!!!! Michelle
Hi michelle:
My numbers doubled today. I was shocked when the nurse called. I have never had the beta rise before...always got the "bad news" call. I have to return for bloodwork next Friday. I am happy, but cautiously optimistic because I am still bleeding and it is def.more then spotting. Took 2 more hpts and they are strong and +++. Your story gives me hope. Please keep in touch.
Yay, FKM! I am so happy for you! I know it is hard when you are bleeding. I was sure I had my period, I bled so much. I am still spotting... Let me know how your blood work goes. I have an early ultrasound on Wednesday and I will keep you posted! Michelle
nestles, given the timing of the bleeding it might have been implantation bleeding, plus if you don't implant the HCG is normally 0 rather than a low number like 3. My guess is that you most likely did implant.
My wife had a lot of spotting at about the same time as you with our last IVF, which did result in a pregnancy. The doctors increased her progesterone dose to two shots a day and that stopped it. So I would ask:
1. Should you be on a higher dose of progesterone? Would shots get the progesterone into you more dependably than suppositories?
2. Is there a good way to avoid a yeast infection? For example, is it okay to drink a lot of cranberry juice starting a week or two before retrieval?
3. What is the aspirin for? Aspirin is a blood thinner, so I wonder if it's related to the bleeding.

Sciteacher77:
Did you use HPT's at all? The reason I ask is because I have been using them daily to see if there is any change. Still +++ and strong. Just not feeling too hopeful about my situation and Friday is a long time to wait for the beta. I think I am going to test a for a few more days and then call to see if I can come in for the bloodwork. Hope all is well with you.
Hi fkm,
Yes, I used HPT. I knew that chemical levels fall fast so I used the same brand and kept testing. My lines got darker and it helped reassure me that my levels were probably not falling. I think using the tests is a good idea as long as you know that they have limitations. I am keeping everything that can cross, crossed for you!!!!! Michelle
Hi Sciteacher77:
Unfortunately I have bad news to report. The beta decreased after going for bloodwork today. I am devastated, but prepared myself for this outcome. I started bleeding pretty heavily yesterday and thought I should call the doctor this morning. She had me come in for a repeat beta. I was truly hoping for a miracle and your story gave me hope, but it obviously was not meant to be. I am really sad, but at this point extremely frustrated. This is now my third loss and it seems to happen every time at the same point. We have an appt. with the doctor to discuss things and at this point I want answers. Why does this keep happening?
I guess we will not be touch from hear on and I want to take the time to thank you for your words of encouragement and for answering all my questions. Good luck with your pregnancy. May it be easy and stress free.
xoxo Courtney
P.S. I work in a high school...not sure if you are a science teacher from your username??:):)
Hi Courtney,
I am so sorry. I was really hoping for this to work out for you! I hope there is some testing that they can do to see what is happening. Please update me on your future cycles!
I am still spotting and not too confident in my outcome either, but I do have an ultrasound tomorrow, so I will know more then.
Yes, I was a science teacher (7th grade) until I had my son. I am on maternity leave, but I am staying home with him.
Are you a teacher?
Again, I am so sorry! I was really hoping this would work for you! Michelle
