Ghost - Need ? suggestions for doc after IVF failure #1

Post by nestles »

Hi Ghost,
I could use some advice. I just experienced my first IVF failure this week. Everything about our cycle seemed to be perfect (great response to meds, great fertilization rate, implanted two top quality 5 day blasts and we froze 4 quality embryos for next time). 6 days post transfer I started bleeding very heavily and it continued for 5 days (doc originally thought it was just a strong reaction to the Crinone progesterone suppositories). My beta was Wednesday and my HCG level was only a 3. With a number that low did I even implant???

I'm meeting with my doc on Monday to discuss next steps. I plan to request a full immunology work up. Any suggestions about questions I should ask my doctor? Have you heard of people with my symptoms and if so what do you think went wrong? Any suggestions are much appreciated. Thanks!

I'm sorry for your loss Nestles... if your beta was 3 it looks like it did implant at some point but couldn't stick on...

For me I had grade A embies at transfer too, and for both IVF's I had BFP's but I miscarried both times. My doc did a chromosomal test with the tissue after my miscarriage but everything came out normal .. XX female. So far there's no explanation why I miscarried both times (the 1st one they called a chemical pregnancy because it was very early and I just naturally bled it out).

I know the terrible feeling of disappointment and sadness, but somehow you get the strength to recover and start again.
IVF1: BFP 02/08 - Chemical 4 wks.
IVF2: BFP 06/08 - Miscarriage 6 wks.
IVF3: BFP 11/09 - Chemical
IVF4: dec/jan Dear Lord..please let this be the one.

nestles: It does sound like it was a chemical since you did have some HCG. I had the same thing this month too. We did PGD and put in 1 very great embie and had a great transfer. HPT's came back positive 3 days before beta, but beta was low at 18 and dropped.
I just met w/ my RE Wed after waiting almost 2 weeks to ask what went wrong. He said they don't know, but it is most likely a chromosomal problem. It is a natural loss because the baby would not make it. I know it doesn't help you feel any better. It is so hard to get that kind of news. He told me as long as the lining looked good, he was not worried. Since you have frosties, I say go with those. But if you do another fresh at some point you may want to do PGD if you can. I had 13 embies and 4 were good enough to use. 9 had big issues and wouldn't have made it. I had a great 5AA embie (as good as it gets) with trisomy 18. W/o the PGD they would have looked at that great embie and probably put that one in. And that would have been bad all around. So I suggest PGD if possible to weed out any bad embies. If they would have put any of the rejected ones in, even if they put in all 9, they would have failed. I guess when we produce so many eggs unnaturally, they can get a little messed up in interior quality.

My clinic rarely bothers with immunology.

Your frozens should still have an excellent chance, and that's where my clinic would turn. Our view is that some patients have a bad endometrium because of the effects of stimulation (thickness does not tell this). If the frozens don't work, then we'd start looking into genetic testing. But usually the frozens work.
Avoid IVF and surrogacy in Ukraine. Ukrainian centers pay shills to post here under numerous sock accounts pretending to be patients in Ukraine. Centers using such deceptive advertising cannot be trusted and should be avoided.
