3 day when 5 day not working?

Post by LMV »

Hello, I was wondering if anyone has had any experience with this or knows anyone who has.
We had a talk with our Dr today and he seems to think we should go for a 3 day transfer instead of a 5 day.
I seem to be able to get pg not be able to hold the pregnancy. (I've gotten pg 3 out of 4 tries) all 3 losses less that 7 weeks.
Our last cycle we had 15 eggs retrieved all but 2 fertilized. They all seemed to do well but only 2 made it to transfer none of them made it to freeze. He said had we done a 3 day last time we would have had 8 to freeze.
My question is even if we had done a 3 day last time wouldn't the outcome be the same, since they didn't make to 5 day?
I just wonder if we should even continue at all.
Thanks in advance for any input!

I don't understand the logic either.

If the day 3 embryo won't make it to day 5, is that really something you want to freeze?
Avoid IVF and surrogacy in Ukraine. Ukrainian centers pay shills to post here under numerous sock accounts pretending to be patients in Ukraine. Centers using such deceptive advertising cannot be trusted and should be avoided.

LMV just wanted to tell you I recently had in-vitro. They retrieved 15 and fertilized all of them 5 were abnormal.Left with 10 on second day automatically put 2 in freezer. Then went to day 5 had 2 blastocysts all the others lost. I think they like you to strive for blastocyst but you can get pregnant with 3 day embryo right? Maybe put some away next time as back up ?I think with the blastocysts you have better chance @ pregnancy but the risk is losing your embies to get there.

Thanks Jenice. I think that is the thought process. I think the theory is the 3 day might do better in my uterus. Maybe not the fresh but possibly the frozen if we get any this time. That and being a more natural procedure.
Good luck!

Hey - I know that MANY RE's don't think this way, but my RE's clinic actually prefers to do 3-day embies over Blasts... The only reason and I actually got this to come out of his mouth.... Is that he doesn't think that the clinic has perfected the "media" to keep the embies growing to Blasts. THey have done many Blasts cycles, but never had great success rates with it. But, they are around 80% successful with 3-day embies. I really think it has a lot to do with the clinic's lab, etc...
I would much rather grow my embies to Blasts, but when my RE (the only place that my insurance will cover) tells me something like that, then I'm going to do 3-day embies...
