I do live in the US and my insurance and care provider is an HMO; Kaiser. Sometimes it is convenient and feels like one stop shopping, other times it is like they dictate my protocol like any other cookie cutter pg. I am happy to be doing well up to this point. I don't know if this pg is different because of the meds are because I am so much older than when I carried my DD & DS. I am so exhausted, bloated and have major food aversions. If I knew what I knew now I would not disclose that it was a DE situation. I am going to try and see if I can get classified at high risk and have insurance pay for it, with my age, DH age, and history of m/c you would think it is reasonable.

Kim, I am sorry about your second sac not being viable. I also experienced sadness that my second didn't take but a singleton pg is a blessing and statistically should be easier to carry to full term.

Hopeful, how are you? Going off the meds is the day I am waiting for, although I am scared to until 12 weeks, even then I will probably freak on it. I have read a lot of different protocols as to when patients go off, who’s to say who is right?

Summer, I am excited to hear how you do. Do they typically take c/s to 38wks in your clinic instead of 39wks? I thought 39 was more the norm. You must be more than ready, that last month can get pretty uncomfortable. I love the rooming in concept.

Gigi, good luck on your beta, having a +hpt always helps with the anxiety of the beta.

JDC, glad to hear things are going well. You are always welcome to come back if you want support or just gripe about getting fat and not being able to shave your legs!

Clemo, a holiday right now sounds wonderful, enjoy. It will help make your wait to cycle go by quicker.

Pauline, did you enjoy Prague. I do think it is a lovely city.

Totally off the subject; does anyone watch Private Practice? I having been catching up on last season's reruns and they have an interesting if morbid story line. There is a very pg doc who is treating a patient who lost her baby. The patient is getting mental and can't handle the loss, she shows up at the docs home, gives her a shot that incapacitates her and then starts to cut her baby out- That was the season finale. The premiere starts off from there. So, I know a lot of people wouldn't watch it while pg but it has me hooked at the moment.

Kim - I'm sorry to hear about the one sac, that must have been very scary for you Sunday night. Happy that your other little bean is doing well ... I know what you mean about not being able to wait until the next scan and ours are on the same day!

Gigi - Good luck with both the beta and your son's MRI!

Steph - Hmmm, you got me thinking about the tests. My doctor suggested them due to my age and so I told him I used DE, of a 27 year old. I told him I wanted it left out of my chart though. He was really nice about it and suggested I not even do the testing. He said there is a slight chance of miscarriage and with twins he said if one comes back positive there isn't much you can do anyways as you can't reduce at that point. He said they could do blood tests but they are skewed due to the twins, so he suggested I simply decline on the tests. Maybe I should do some research???

Hello to everyone else ... I hope you are all doing well!

Kim, So sorry to hear that your 2nd embryo didn't make it, especially because everyone had you thinking that there has to be two with the beta numbers you had. While you grieve, stay strong for the one that is there and growing with its little heart beating away for you. Take good care and stay off your feet whenever you can!

Hopeful, I have read that the tests can be difficult to read accurately with multiples. There seem to be so many schools of thought on this issue. I'm only carrying one and we only did an amnio, due to the age of our donor + the age of DH, my doctor said it was borderline in terms of the baby possibly having genetic defects. It was a very nervewracking time, both before the test and waiting for the results, but were relieved that the amnio showed everything was okay for all the baby was tested for.

I did think the comprehensiveness of the anatomy scan, which is non invasive and really thorough was one of the best tests to have done. And you get to see your little miracle/s for a very long time on the big screen!

Stef - plead your case to both your doctor and to the insurance company! We are all rooting for you!! Best of luck with this issue and your next scan!

I had to laugh when you talked about the difficulty of shaving ones legs at this point -- because I had just looked at mine before reading your post and thought, I really have to do this again before I'm whisked away to the hospital -- But, I have developed a pretty good technique...
My doctor chose the date for my c-section. I guess it is 38.5 weeks...I don't know if 39 is more the norm here or not. I know someone else who just had one for the same reason I have to and she also had it around the same time -- 38 weeks.
And yes, I am more than ready - but can also wait 3 more weeks...I had some AF like cramping this morning for the 1st time, so I think my body is starting to get ready for something....
And lastly -- We are also a season behind with the American TV shows -- and I did watch Private Practice, which recently ended its run with the episode you mentioned...I have to wait a while to see what happens next. I think it comes back on again next summer...(They dub everything here into German!)

Gigi - best of everything with your first beta today and your 2nd + the MRI on Friday!

I was in some store this morning and an older man came up to me and told me how beautiful I looked being pregnant. He must have been in his 70's. He told me he's been married for 45 years and he and his wife were never able to have children, due to an illness she had and by the time she recovered, they were told they were too old. But he still longs in his heart to be a father and to have been able to have the chance to hug is pregnant wife, which will never happen for him. I felt so sad hearing his story and so lucky at the same time to have had the chance through modern medicine to get pregnant and go through this experience.

Hi to everyone I didn't mention personally!! Hope you are having a great week! Keep up the PMA!

Hi everyone

Yet more BFP's. Let hope & pray that this trend continues.

Summer, not long for you now, how are you able to stand the wait? Are you wishing the next few weeks away?

Carolyn, how are you doing - hope all is well with you.

Kim, congrats on your BFP but sorry that your 2nd one didn't make it

Gigi, congrats on your BFP and hope your son's mri goes well and shows nothing to be concerned about.

Clemo, enjoy your holiday.

I hope I haven't missed anyone but if I have I hope you are doing good.

AFM, we got to Prague on Friday and to the clinic at around 10:30am and didn't leave till 2:30pm. I thought they were quite good as they saw us as soon as we got there, even though our appt wasn't till 12. Picked up my meds and looking at a possible date of mid November. We didn't get home till around 1am having been up from 3:30am so we were pretty tired. I looked at the information leaflets that came with the meds and had to laugh, it is obviously all in Czech and can't read it. Must google to see if I an find the info on the meds on the internet. Had an email from the clinic today to say that the donor they told us about is only available in October so they may have to arrange someone else for us. I've asked the question if we can go ahead with the donor in October and will speak to the clinic on Friday to see what they say. If that is the case, we will be starting meds from next AF (next weekend)!!

Are you guys willing/able to give me generic info on your donor? i.e. age, if they donated before or if they have their own children? The donor they are suggesting to us is 20, has no children of her own but has donated before.

Take care,
Pauline

Hi Pauline,
Welcome home! Hope you enjoyed Prague! We received pretty much the same info as you and Carolyn, plus her education level and blood type. I don't know if my donor ever donated before, but she does have 2 children. Is your clinic willing/able to tell you if her previous donation ended in a BFP for the couple or a live birth?

Hope everyone is doing well!

HI Ladies;

Pauline: I asked for loads of info about our donor after we chose her. Doesn't make sense but was curious about details in case we decide to disclose. She still wants to be anonymous so I'm not sure about disclosing yet. Our donor never donated prior and is only 23 and doesn't have kids. So we took a chance. I just really liked that she sounded so similar to me in her educational choices and out going personality.

Summer: what a touching story about the man in the store. Wow. That is pretty deep. Haven't watched private practice but I saw a lifetime like that once....love those story lines.

Stef: Also, why are we encouraged to do genetic testing if the ED is in her twenties. I thought the female was the only one correlating with genetic defects and chromosomal abnormalities due to "age." Hmmm. That's what I was told by my geneticist.

Poohgirl: how are you doing?

Kim: How are you doing with everything? I have been thinking of you.

Clemo: Enjoy your pre cycle time. I took my hpt early to see if I could drink wine this past weekend and saw pregnancy mark. So bought shoes instead of drinking wine. Hope you are getting excited.

haven't heard from Sabi in a while...hope all is well.

Our first beta is over 1,000. Keeping calm and hoping God will give us what we can handle right now. Alot going on with son and another baby will be a blessing from God to be a part of this journey with our little man.

Summer - Only 3 wks to go!!! That's so good that you get to 'room-in' with bubs. I think it's very special bonding time.
That was a sad story about the old man. Nature certainly is strange sometimes in regards to how easy it is for some people to have children. :(

Kim - I'm sorry about your twin. It's totally understandable to be cautious. Take the time to grieve and then you can appreciate your strong bub all the more. I hope your scan next week shows your bub getting stronger and healthier.

Stef - I hope your Dr can help with the high risk for insurance reasons. In Australia the 12 week NT scan costs about $500 without insurance. Is it much more in the US?
Sorry you're feeling bloated but then the more symptoms you have the more real it seems. Well that's what I think!

Hopeful - I've heard the same thing regarding NT results being skewed with twins. If anything, it's just another chance to see your bubs on the big screen!

Pauline - That's great that you're getting everything sorted. I hope the trip to Prague wasn't too tiring. I have to agree with Wishful regarding knowing about the side effects of the meds. Take it as it comes and just be prepared to be extra hormonal!
Re: info on my donor. My donor is my cousin so I don't know if that's relevant. But here is the info anyway:

Age - 29
Children - 1 daughter who is 7yrs.
Has not donated before and is only prepared to donate to me.

My clinic states that the most preferable candidate is someone who has had children and is under 35yrs. But then if the donor wants to donate then I guess that is her prerogative.

Wishful - I think sore nipples is normal and it's all hormone related. Good to hear everything is going smoothly for you.

Gigi - Wow that is a big beta!!!! Congratulations!!!!!!! I hope your son is doing ok and you've not had any bad news from his mri's.
Good to hear that you bought shoes instead of wine!

AFM - We had our final counselling session. The consent forms are now signed so we're good to go.
This time next week we'll be on the plane enjoying a scotch or 2. Just to settle the flying nerves! Sorry to keep boring you about the trip but I just can't help it. I'm so excited to be having 2 whole weeks to relax and enjoy myself. I won't have to go to work, clean my house, do dishes or cook dinner for 2 whole weeks  .

Gigi - nice strong beta for you! How many days past transfer are you? All the best for Friday!

I didn't realize that the egg is the only one that carries the chomosonal defects -- wonder why my doctor said it also had something to do with the age of DH as well -- hmmmm....

Enjoy your new shoes!!! I can't wait till I just fit back into my old ones again!

Clemo - ENJOY your holiday!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Have a drink for me!

Big hello to everyone - hope you are all feeling well. The waiting to start and waiting from scan to scan does seem like forever, like a million 2WWs. Keep the faith that all is well, no matter how unsure everything might seem right now at the beginning. And to those in the starting blocks, we are all behind you 100%.

Take good care,
xx summer

Hi Ladies:

Just want to clarify what our geneticist shared with us. As far as chromosomal defects due to "age," the egg is the one that tends to get stickier as it ages. So when it combines with the sperm it sometimes duplicates chromosomes or deletes them. It's not always the fault of the egg but the incidence is higher with "aging" eggs. Sperm can definitely cause a chromosomal abnormality but sperm only lives for 24 to 48 hours so "age" doesn't have anything to do with it.

So that doesn't mean she discourages us to test for chromosomal abnormalities but the incidence is much lower with a younger egg. I plan to do the nuchal scan regardless. So that is how I understood the "aging" egg and it's relation to higher incidence of chromosomal abnormality...which is definitely a plus for all of us.

We had 3 miscarriages due to chromosomal abnormalities completely age related. They actually tested us both to see if we had any inheritance abnormalities but we did not so they chalked it up to the "aging" egg. Of course I felt guilty for that issue. It's always on the woman, isn't it?

Enjoy your weekend. We are prepping for my son's MRI tomorrow and 2nd beta test. My beta yesterday was 14 days past transfer date.

Can't wait to hear from our folks beginning their cycles soon...cheers to all of you.
