I just received my fertility report from my egg retrieval yesterday and am so sad. Of the 15 eggs they got, only 2 fertilized. My doctor said this is highly unexpected for a woman my age (29) and that the eggs and sperm looked good, but when I pressed her she said it is likely an egg quality issue. I'm so upset... does anyone have any advice/information/personal experience with this issue? I'm praying that the 2 embryos make it to transfer on Saturday.
I am sorry to hear your news. I had no fertilization this cycle. DH has 1% morphology and ICSI damages my eggs. I also have poor egg quality and we have done 3 cycles now without ICSI just hoping for fert. I got pregnant with one of them but since then it has just gone down hill. the next cycle I had 1 of 18 then 4 of 18 now none of my 14. I have heard of something where the outside of the egg is hard and the sperm cannot penetrate. Maybe ICSI will work for you guys! Good luck!

I'm so sorry to hear about your results, but you do still have 2. I had a similar issue on my last cycle. The RE told me it was an egg issue and I stayed out of hot water (tub baths, hot tubs, etc) and limited my intake of any meds that I couldn't take if I was pregnant. Not sure if that had anything to do with it, but this time the embryologist and RE were very impressed with the embryo quality. Good luck and I am wishing you are very successful transfer!

I had the very same issue. In my case specifically it's that my eggs don't mature. Did they tell you if they were mature but still didn't fertilize or did they go into that detail. My first cycle we did a Low-dose Lupron, retrieved 19 eggs but only 2 matured. This second cycle we changed the protocal to an Antagon cycle, got 14 eggs, but 5 were mature so much better results. We are now 7wks along with one baby. Keep the faith, but find out more information!!!
I had a similar problem my first IVF - I was also 29. I had 11 mature eggs - 7 fertilized. Only 3 were still (barely) alive on day 3 when we were scheduled for pgd due to a chromosome issue my dh has. Well those 3 didn't survive the day. PGD showed horrible chromosome issues that were not related to my dh's translocation. Dr said it was a shock that I had such poor egg quality. It was very devastating to us - we were given less than 10% chance of ever being successful. We opted for donor eggs/donor sperm and I am now 22 wks pg. It was a hard choice but we had already been through multiple miscarriages before going to the ivf and just couldn't take anymore. So getting that positive test on our first ivf with donors and having 7 great quality embies frozen made it worth it. I hope that you have better luck if you try another cycle - talk to the doctor and know that there are other options... Good Luck!!!!
I only had 2 fertilize, one to make it to transfer. And got pregnant the first time! Don't give up hope!!! I think part of the reason that I got pg was keeping a positive attitude and prayer. Best of luck to you!!!
Keep your spirits up. Many people go through this and don't have anything fertilize! It only takes one to work! Positive thoughts and energy go a long way. It really does. I know worrying is impossible. Just force your mind to think positive. It only takes one!!!! On a scientific note, did you guys do ISCI?
