Ghost: HCG trigger shot

Post by shelbyrn0214 »

I'm sure you've been asked this 100 times, but how long does it take an hCG 10,000 IU trigger to get out of your system for a +HPT? I am 5dp5dt and I POASed this afternoon and got a pretty strong line. I prepared either way, but of course I want it to be a true positive! Thanks

Shelby- I am 99% confident it would be a real positive at this point. But I could be wrong. Everyone's body is different, but the general rule of thumb is 1000 units per day, so your 10,000 unit shot should be gone by day 10. With both of my fresh cycles, I did hpt's to test if trigger was gone and one time is was gone at 3dp3dt and the other was 4dp3dt. But again, everyone is different. I would say if you take one again tomorrow, but definitely in 2 days that it is time to start celebrating! (even though I think you are pretty safe now!)

Thank you, Michele! That makes me feel so much better! I've read anywhere between 6 and 14 days. I'm still excited, just cautiously..... :?

It takes about 10 days, plus or minus a day or two.

However, the linear "1000 units per day" model is a poor fit to the data. For example, if you took 20,000 units, it would only take a couple more days, not 10 more days.

A better model is an exponential decay. 10,000 IU will get your serum level up to about 250 IU/L. 10 days is about 7 half-lives for hCG, so it would decrease to about 2 IU/L in 10 days. That's too low to see with an HPT. Some patients are a little higher than that, though. Anywhere from 1-5 is common.

10 days is also too early to see the hCG from implantation. 1-2 days later it becomes possible, but false negatives are common at that point. The point where the HPT would become reliable is about the point where IVF clinics run a blood test anyway.

thank you for your quick response. I want to throw something else @ you.... I had 2 embies transferred: 1-4AA and 1-4AB with a lining that was 16 and had a triple stripe. Could it be possible that BOTH have implanted and that is why I am already seeing the positive result because the hCG level is higher? I'm certainly not asking you to confirm that I am pregnant with twins, just wondered about the possibilities.

It suggests twins.

At 5dpd5t the hCG is around 5-20 for most singletons, and 30-50 for most twins.

Don't want to sound negative but don't let the numbers fool you. Yes I do believe that you are very much pregnant but the numbers can be deceiving. My numbers were very high and we were thinking twins but we had a healthy singleton.

Good luck and my fingers are crossed for you if you are hoping to get twins.

Keep us posted.

Shelby - I am hoping for big strong beta levels for you (and your twinkies). I had a BFP on a HPT too that early and I'm hoping for twins for myself so I hope that means the same for you too!!!!
