Hi all! I'm hoping to get some advice/thoughts/stories from some of you ladies that have gone through a FET before. My DH and I have a 2-year old daughter from a previous fresh IVF cycle. As a result of that cycle we had 3 embryos frozen and are now getting ready to start a frozen cycle. Here's my question...is it silly to be terrified of triplets if the doctor advises transferring all 3? With the fresh cycle I only transferred 2.
The embryos we have are 8 cell, 6 cell and 5 cell. When we had our initial consult our RE recommended we thaw all three and if all three survive transfer them all. I know that (1) there is a high likelihood they may not all survive and (2) they are not all ideal quality which puts my chances of multiples pretty low. However, I'm really nervous about it because my sister-in-law transferred 3 embryos in a FET last winter and was told she had a less than 1% chance of triplets...but now she's the proud mama of THREE 2-month old babies.
Would it be unreasonable to ask my RE to thaw all three but only use two of them if all survive? I'm afraid if I have 3 but only opt to put in 2 and it doesn't work I will always wonder if I made the wrong choice. I'd appreciate any help...as you can tell my mind is spinning in circles!
I understand your fears for triplets. As some embroys dont survive the thaw you could get your doctor to thaw all three and see what survives and transfer the best 2, if there is a third you could re-freeze it and use it at another date. Best of luck xxxx

Yes it's a difficult dilemma. I am in England and here we wuol donly be allowed transfer two embryos. I read gi's response and I am almost 100% sure that you cannot refreeze embryo's! so please check this before you consider it an option. However I think it may well be possible to thaw two, then see what happens and if only one or none survive, thaw the other quickly for that cycle. I have spoken to my hospital about doing that before (I have 4 embies frozen) and my son who is now 3 and half is also the result of a FET. On that occasion we thawed 3 and two survived and we had a baby boy from that cycle. Good Luck with your decision.
