IVF over 40 New Buddy Drive!!

Post by njsurga »

Hi, I'm starting my first IVF cycle over 40. I'm currently stimming now. I have 2 children 22 & 19, I had them naturally when I was young. Had my tubes removed in 1990 due to an infection caused by surgery. Are there any other women over 40 women out there to keep me company?? I'm stimming on Follistim 150UL, Started stimming on day 5 and tomorrow go back for us/bloodwork on day 9. I live in NJ and I'm going to Dr Check at Cooper...he has a very good reputation and had no problem taking me and trying with my own eggs like some other drs. I know the odds are low so I could use the support!!

Post by muki's mom »

Hi, I'm 40 and attempting my first ivf cycle....I have no idea what to expect and I'm just trying to educate myself. Is anyone else 40 and have any advice for this process?

Hi,

Not quite 40 when but will be when I delivery my baby, hopefully, in November.

My RE told me I have about 30% chance of getting pregnant and keeping the pregnancy. I have 16 eggs retreived, 15 fertilized, had 3 grade 1 embryos transferred. Was pregnancy with twins. Unfortunately lost one of them at week 6. Was not sure if I would keep my other twin, but thanks GOD, I am 20 weeks along right now. I have 5 other embryos that are frozen (2 grade 1 and 3 grade 2).
This was my first try at IVF with ICSI. ANother complication that I had was moderate ovarian hyperstimulation which was not fun at 1st.
Other than that, I consider myself very lucky and pray for a good outcome at the end.
Hope this will help and give you some hope, ladies.
Good luck!

Hi,
I am over 40 and trying for baby two. We had baby one when was 41 and was an easy pregnancy...all natural. So would be happy to ping one another on things. Suppose to start IVF in October...all pushed back due to septate uterus issues. WE have had many miscarriages and dr. feels this is our best route w/ my age.

Hi There, i just joined this group and am happy to find some over 40 people on board. I am new to all of this and any information would be welcome and appreciated. I am going tomorrow morning for my first IUI I've been on gonal 450 and made 2 follicles. I hoped to respond better to the injections but??? I don't even have a clue what my chances might be of conceiving??? I also don't know if I will be able to be an IVF candidate since I didn't produce more follicles?? Anyone have any feedback?? I am feeling so in the dark it's not even funny!!

Hi Julie

You seem so lost and alone, I just wanted to wish you the very best of luck - remember it only takes one!!!

I was a very slow responder in the beginning and they jigged around with my meds which helped me produce a few more follicles on subsequent cycles - it took until the 4th cycle to get pregnant.

You are embarking on a rollercoaster journey and you need to try to take one day at a time.

The ladies on here are very knowledgeable and are really supportive - amazing since we are all strangers but with one very common goal.

I hope you find some 'friends' on this site to help you through your journey - I dont get on here very often but will peek in time to time to check your progress.

Hello to my old friends, I will catch up with you all soon.

Hi,

I am new to this forum, and just start my first IVF cycle, currently doing birth control pills and I will start my injection next week. I am also over 40, my doctor told me chance is about 20%. Now the only concern is my doctor will put 4 transfers, but I am pretty worry about if I have high chance of twins (may be just worry too much) , so hope for the best.....to turn out.

Hi 10bear,
This was my first attempt and we started w/iui... I had two good follicles and now i am just waiting as Tues i go for my pregnancy test. Keeping my hopes positive and my fingers crossed. I guess we'll move on to ivf if Tues results are negative. Not sure that I responded great to the injections but from what I have read on some other posts it will vary month to month. While I understand that twins could be a possibility don't let yourself get too stressed as thats the last thing you need. Good luck and stay positive.

Thanks Caroline for checking in and the kind words you had. This is all a very big rollercoaster with so much information coming at me.

All the best,
Julie

Hi all
wish i new about this forum sooner. I will be 38 next week, never been pregnant and in my first IVF cycle. Actually awaiting the nurse to call my results. Probable asp in 2 days. I always new this was my only option even at 20 years old, and always said I'd take it one step and at a time. In other words I'd be in "control" of this. Right!!!!! I am having feelings that I never knew existed and my husband does not have a clue. I feel for all u ladies and I'm thankful that you have posted to share. I wish all of you the best. Good luck Juliew6767

Hi All,
This is a wonderful message board and a great thread! I've learned so much just reading old posts. Starting to obsess already though... :D

I am 40, will be 41 in January and was just married for the 1st time this past May. DH's first too.

I've never been pregnant before and have always hoped it would happen someday. We have been trying since our honeymoon, had an HSG which unblocked one FT (other still blocked) and now we are jumping right into IVF based on recommendations from RE. I start the stim on 11/6. My numbers aren't bad - FSH is 8 but AMH is .6. DH results decent, but of course as they love to remind me age is a big factor with egg quality, etc. So off we go!

I'm so nervous and still have no clue what is about to happen to me! How many of you are trying for your first pregancy at 40+?

Hi all,

I am over 40 and this is my first IVF. I am in CA, and no insureance cover for all the treatment.

Just would like to let you know that I am current on Lupron, 23rd will be the date for stim ( Folism 300 and Menopur x2), Actually Lupron is not bad at all, feel like gaining a little weight, needle is ok, just need to ice the area before shot. but heard it will get worse when I am doing stim med. :(

I was told I should expecting my period 3 days after I stop my BCP, but I am still not feeling anything yet as of now ( 5 days after), so is anyone know it is fine or not?

keep figure cross for me.

I live in UK and have been told am not eligible for IVF on NHS so am investigating UK clinics........

Would be good to keep in touch and swap stories.
