I have tried the ring (part of a study), the crinone gel, and the PIO shots. My personal opinion is that the PIO shots were the way to go. The gel is messy and your progesterone numbers are not near as strong. While the PIO shots are painful for some, I found them to be no big deal. They kept my progesterone numbers up where they needed to be and gave me much more confidence with the pregnancy. Just my two cents worth.

I preferred the crinone. I am not a fan of shots and did not want to do an IM shot for 10 weeks. Crinone worked fine for me.

My Doctor actually had me do both POI and suppositories and within two weeks, my numbers were so high and holding I was able to stop doing both. The shots really aren't that bad. They didn't hurt giving much more than anything else, just a little sore the next day.

I am currently using crinone gel daily and have been since 2 days post Egg Retrieval, but I am ALSO using PIO since that same day as well. Praying for a positive outcome, but I don't know how well it works yet. It causes a discharge that I am not happy with, but it will be worth it if I end up with a little one or two.

I did PIO once and suppositories once (and will start on them again next week for my FET). Don't go by blood work, because the PIO will show up in your blood test, but the gel and suppositories won't, because they're just being absorbed right into the tissue. According to my doctor (who I think is really good, and very up on the research), the newest studies show no difference in success between PIO and the other forms.

Hi, I used the suppositories for all my cycles and got pregnant with 3 out of 4. In the UK the suppositories are more favoured these days as they are easier on the body and research has shown there is no better results from using shots. We can choose to have shots but why would you. Regarding the discharge, yes its not nice but a panty liner is all that is needed, also i used to insert mine (2) at bedtime so i was lying down, I know some US clinics have you inserting them at various times of the day but personally it did not affect me. Also as previously said the progesterone gel will not show up on blood work as it is absorbed by the tissue.
I had twin boys from a 2 embie transfer on gel only.

Good luck

Yes - I forgot that part! - If I could arrange to lie down for even 15 minutes after putting in the suppository, I had almost no discharge from them. (I could usually do that for morning and night, but not the mid-day one.) In any case, that was so much better than the huge, painful, red welts I got from the PIO.

(beachbaby - I'm glad to see your history and result, as I'm hoping for a success after a couple of failures myself.)
