I had IVF (with my own eggs) at 42 and am now the proud mother of a beautiful and healthy baby boy. Now at 44, my husband and I are considering trying again with my own eggs. Is there anybody here who has been successful in getting pregnant and having a baby at 44 with their own eggs?

My clinic has had success with patients older than 44, but the success rates are low up there. Most opt for donor egg cycles. Your success at age 42 suggests you may have a better chance than most.joy42 wrote:Hi

Avoid IVF and surrogacy in Ukraine. Ukrainian centers pay shills to post here under numerous sock accounts pretending to be patients in Ukraine. Centers using such deceptive advertising cannot be trusted and should be avoided.

I had IVF with my own eggs just 3 months shy of my 43rd birthday.
They harvested 28 eggs, of which 20 were fertilized and 16 of those were of excellent quality. By the time they got to the day 3 blastocyst stage, only 5 were viable (which shocked me given the original numbers). Also, I did take DHEA, as I read that can increase egg quality and there is another clinic that has been studying it and using it for "older ovaries".
The two that were implanted were graded with the best possible grade given and one successfully implanted. I had my baby boy back in May, though he had to be induced at almost 36 weeks.
I now have my eye on baby #2 and am stressing at only having three frozen embryos, not knowing if they will survive the thaw and/or implant. Would my ovaries then be too old to produce any decent eggs for IVF #2? I'll be 44 next month.
Also, I am exclusively breastfeeding and had planned to wean my son when he got to 6 months old, as I have been creating a frozen stash of milk to hopefully carry him another 6 months. However, I just found out I likely underestimated the quantity he would need, so have decided to go an extra month into late Jan before I wean him. Then, I just have to wait for AF to arrive.
Stressor #2--I've heard that it can take as long as a year or even two for it to arrive and I can't undergo an FET until I have had two periods in a row. So, I definitely feel that time is not on my side and the sands in the hour glass are running out.

Can you tell me more about what is the dosage you took for the DHEA and how many months before your IVF cycle you start taking those?. I am 41 this year. At age 40, I prego naturally but m/c @ 6 weeks. Then we go through several IUI without sucess. This is my first IVF cycle, I just had my ER on last Tuesday. We retreived 12 eggs but only 1 got fertilized without ICSI since my husband does not have any sperm problem so RE did not suggest ICSI at all. Now I only have 1 embryo to transfer which lead to very low sucess rate. I just wonder if DHEA really helps and I would like to take those ASAP so need your advice on it.
I also heard there will be side effect such as acne and loss hair, is that so? I brought the DHA 25mg, know some lady said 50mg is ok, but others said 75mg, so not sure what is ok, I haven't had a chance to talk to RE yet regarding it, but if it really help I will try it no matter what

I used 75 mg. I bought it at Walmart. It was the Schiff brand. From what I have read, it is recommended to take it for 3-4 months before egg retrieval. I took it for 4 months. I bought the 25 mg tablets and took two in the morning and one in the evening.
My RE had no issues with me taking it (though he didn't think much of using it) and I went to one of the top rated fertility clinics in the U.S., located in Denver.
I had no side effects whatsoever, but everyone is different.

There is also a clinic that uses DHEA and has studied it a lot.

If it works the way claimed/suspected (but not yet proved), then the benefit period is before the stimulated cycle. There should be no benefit from taking it during the stimulated cycle.10bear wrote:Hi IKMISC,

I think a lot depends on the numbers and if you can find a clinic to take you. I'll be 43 in Feb. I have gotten pregnant once naturally and on IVF #5 I had an etopic. I gave up for about a year because I had 6 and nothing worked for me. But I was never completed satisfied with the clinic for various reasons. Over the summer, I went to the OBGYN's office to order a clomid challenge test and my FSH numbers came back high--22 on day 3 and 31 on day 10. Most clinics will not touch me because of these high levels. I would willing to limited travel--I live in RI, so anywhere from Mass. down to NY is doable for me. There was a clinic in NYC that intrigued me called The Center for Human Reproduction because they use DHEA and they seem to have more "expertise" on older woman with diminished ovarian reserve like myself. I tried calling them and they weren't so helpful--kept putting me on hold, just wanted to set me up with a consulation for $375, etc. Bottom line with them is they are not in network with my insurance, you have to pay up front everything and they don't have any sort of financial help and they charge what they charge, so even if I get some reimbursement with my insurance. the insurance will only give me 70% of the allowable amount for the procedure which is usually less than what they charge. Unfortunately, I can only go someplace that's considered in-network for me for the financial aspect of it. Although I want to pursue it, I probably won't because of my high FSH levels and the difficulty of finding a clinic that would accept me.
This DHEA sounds really intriguing to me--I have been pregnant twice now--once naturally and once through one of my later IVF cycles. Unfortunately one ended in a miscarriage and the other one was etopic. So I know I can get pregnant. I was always "older" when this happened since I didn't even start trying to have kids until I was 35. I am a little worried/nervous about doing the DHEA since I am not sure about adverse side effects.....
