**New Update** Ghost - Progesterone question - concerned

Post by baby_or_bust »

Hi there- we went through FET to have our daughter a year ago. I was going to stop BF'ing soon to go for another FET to try for 1 more.

Well...got a surprise BFP. I wasn't temping but I did chart watery CM and DH and I only DTD 3 times within that 24 hour period. Low and behold 10 days later = 10 dpo I got a BFP on a FRER and a digi.

Because of multiple MC's and an ectopic PG I called my OB and she got me in for beta draws. My first beta draw was 11 dpo and was 31 - my progesterone was only 12.9.

The nurse called me with my numbers and said they think it is an ectopic because my numbers are so low and they want to see me on Monday. They went ahead and had me do another draw yesterday - 13 dpo but only looking at the HCG and I will get the results Monday as well.

I am going to be honest, I had progesterone oil from my FET and I had to do PIO shots up until I was 37 week PG. So a little over a year ago. I also had progesterone cream. I had DH give me a shot twice now, one every evening and am doing the cream in the morning. OB doesn't believe in progesterone supplementation. Haven't told her yet because I started it Thursday.

Is my PG doomed based on these numbers alone??? What do you think of everything I wrote???

Thanks so much in advance. We are truly blessed with what we have but I already love this little bean!

*****************Update***********************

Ghost - what do you think???

First HCG 11 dpo - 31
Second HCG - 13 dpo - 59 :(

It was acutally a couple of hours later in the day
Obgyn is going to refill my PIO oil and cream - and she had me do another beta draw today and will do it again Thursday. I know my numbers came "close" to doubling, but I haven't had very good experience when the numbers didn't more than double.

Dogzrule - Thank you for your words of encouragement! I appreciate it!

First, congratulations!

I don't see 31 IU/l hCG as low for 11 dpo.

Same for 12.9 ng/ml progesterone. It's lower than we like for IVF, but we like our safety margins. Some clinics use 10.0 as a minimum. I've read that the critical threshold is around 6.5.

As for taking meds without telling the doc, that's a big no-no. Obviously the same meds are used in other pregnancies (like IVF). I strongly advise you tell your doctor.

Not surprising that an ob/gun does not use progesterone. IVF clinics are much more likely to rely on it.

Good luck with Monday's report. Looking for a 60-90 reading.

Thank you so much for replying and so quickly!

So should I stop the meds and wait to talk to the OB Monday?

PS. Because the nurse scared me to death I've taken several more tests. They are getting darker daily, although I realize that doesn't measure HCG levels. Do you think I have "some" hope???

Oh and is it possible since I am still BF'ing (part time now since she is eating solids well) that the absence of sore BB's is OK?

I'm not an MD so I can't do the medical advice thing. I just give info and discussion.

Sounds like you could justify lots of hope.

I suspect the ob/gyn rarely sees pregnancies this early. In a few weeks it should be around 100,000 hCG, and that's what an ob/gyn is used to seeing (I've had that discussion with many ob/gyns, they think anything under 10,000 is nonviable.). At this point, 31 is ideal. I work at an IVF clinic, and I see them at this point all the time.

The darkening line is good news, too.

I just wanted to encourage you and let you know that my 1st beta was also 31, but it was at 14dpo (9dp5dt)! You can see the progression of my beta numbers below, and you can also see that I am currently 18 weeks pregnant! Also, my progesterone was 18, maybe even a tad lower. There is definitely hope for you, and I am living proof!

I'd have preferred to see it higher. Keep in mind there's a little error in these readings. We'll see with the next one.

Try not to worry about these hCG readings. IVF patients worry way too much. It's not that the outcome isn't important, it's just that the stress itself is not good.

HCG update

Post by baby_or_bust »

OK - got another update. They aren't checking my progesterone but I started both the PIO shots and the vaginal progesterone cream. Obgyn was OK with it and prescribed me some more.

My draws are as follows so far...

Natural PG after 7 losses and 1 ectopic, 1 IVf and 2 FET's

11 dpo - Beta 31 Progesterone 12.9
13 dpo - Beta 59 - was about 50 hours between draws :(
16 dpo - Beta 193!!! Was less than 70 hours between draws :D

Obviously not nearly out of the woods but looking better!

Thanks for the update. Best of luck, but it sounds like you don't need much luck now.
