Cynthia - You'll know what is right for you regarding breastfeeding. I've been having a really hard time with it since I have to pump and feed them with bottles. It would make it easier if they would latch on. I'm still going to pump as long as I make the milk. Ren does not do well with formula at all. He spits it up really bad. He still spits up with breastmilk but not as bad. The pediatrician said he has reflux and has us putting some rice cereal in his milk. I think you will be fine without the steroid shots. My doctor didn't think I would make it to 37 weeks so he wanted me to have the shots.

Nicole - It was a really nice surprise to meet you today. I hope you are able to make it to your due date. I had a lot to do at work still before I had the babies so I know how you feel. There was nothing I could do about it once I started going into labor and work is the last thing on my mind now. So, just do your best. It's all you can do.

Well my scheduled c-section did get moved up a week! I'll go in next Friday, Nov 27th. I'll be 37 weeks then. I'm SO ready! Soon after the appt today I was feeling pretty horrible. The pressure on my cervix and my rectum (TMI I know) is getting unbearable and I'm so glad I only have to put up with it for another week!

Amy, yeah, I'm not setting any expectations at this point. I figure the babies are going to have full control over how things go with nursing so I'll just go with whatever works.

Well ladies, Monday is my day!! Monday Nov.23 is my 37 week mark, so I'm going in at 7:30 in the morning to start induction. I'm just glad I don 't have to endure these headaches anymore and I don't have to worry with pre-eclapsia anymore.
I'm so excited, but nervous and scared at the same time. I was already 3 cm Thursday and still 80% efaced and the babies head is so low the doc could feel it when examming me. Anyway, she said it should be a easy delivery...we'll see I guess!!

Good luck on Monday! I'm sure everything will go wonderfully. I'm so glad that the end is near for you so that I can stop worrying too!

By the way... Monday is my DH's birthday... a great day to be born

Oh girls, sorry I've been MIA- my supervisor took a 6 week leave, so just as I thought my work load would be winding down, it ended up getting crazy busy at work AND I wasn't getting the email notifications. I'm caught up on all of you, now though!

Amy- it was so cool to run into you too!!!!

Hang in there, this craziness right after the babies are born does NOT last! Every day gets better, mixed with some bad ones, but you and they will continue to improve!

Kellie- MONDAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'll be thinking about you all day- envious, but thankful you can be finished with this pregnancy too! You sound the most miserable, well, Cynthia does too, I guess!

AFM: The hemorrhoids are a little better, but the pressure, etc that Cynthia talks about, I have. I thought I was going into labor last Wednesday night and even had a tinge of bloody show, but nope, nothing. Just dehydrated, I think. I'm doing much better and watching my fluids and salt too. My BP is fine and per the doc I'm 2cm dilated and he even offered to break my bag of waters!!!!!!!!

Needless to say, I said, uh, no, not quite ready this minute

I'd like nature to take it's course, so I go in this coming Wednesday morning. He doesn't seem to think I'll have a 9lb baby (my greatest fear at this point) or that I'll be preggers in December!

I can dig that, just caught me off guard with his offer.

Sounds like most of us will end up being November mommies!

EYCI - I really appreciate all your help...you've been a big help. The headaches, high BP and nausea have been such a pain in the butt, but at least now there's an end in sight!! I hope you'll stay in touch

ianmichael3 - hahaha well I think we are ALL miserable in one way or another!! I'm just glad all us gals are about done being pregnant and we've all made it!! I know I worried from day one, first I worried about miscarriage, then that the baby would be still born, then I worried she would come early and be a preemie, then I worried about the pre-eclampsia harming the baby, but now I feel like I can finally breathe...I'm almost out of danger

I think it's awesome you want to let nature take it's course, I don't blame you. That's what I had really wanted, but with this BP crap, I better not take the chance...so I guess just having a vaginal birth instead of a c-section is close enough!

cymplicity27 - So they moved it to Nov.27th?? Great news!! Are you getting nervous and excited?? I'm curious why you are having a c-section?? Could you not go for a vaginal birth? Or are the babies in a strange position....
I feel the exact same pressure you do...it's like sharp pains on my cervix. I've felt them for weeks now, it makes me feel like I have to pee all the time.

So am I the only person on here that's not going to breast feed? I just don't want to spend the time to do it. Plus, I have heard from tons of people that it is painful...although there are people who say it doesn't...more say it does. I would just rather bottle feed for the convenience more than anything.

Kelly, I think it's just from all my past complications. I still have the cerclage (stitch) and they don't want me to risk laboring and tearing through it...and neither do I! OUCH!! Even though the twins are head down, they say many times the second baby gets pretty stressed during the delivery of the 1st baby and they have to resort to an emergency c-section after vaginally delivering one. So to avoid that, we're just going with the c-section. I think if I asked to wait it out to try to go vaginally they would let me. But I'm so miserable that I'm ready to do this now! Especially since both babies seem to be doing well.

As far as the breast feeding thing, one of my main reasons is money. Can't beat free! If I were having one, I'd probably just go with formula though but we're trying to avoid buying formula for 2! I also hear you drop weight pretty quickly breast feeding

. I can totally understand not wanting to do it. I question it daily but I will give it a try. None of the women in my family have breast fed and they all look at me like I'm crazy for wanting to. I've also heard it's very difficult at first and has been painful for some...guess I'll find out.

Hi Ladies,

I am trying to finish up the baby things shopping. Need some advice about the feeding bottles. I am going to try breast feeding. Just in case it doesn't work, I need to keep the feeding bottles ready.

I have heard the Avent and Born-free brands are good. Which size should I buy? I think there is a 4oz and 90z sizes.

Also where to buy nursing pads and nipple creams? Any recommendation on brands?

Tara - I've been working with the twins on breastfeeding but I haven't got them to completely latch yet. Also with Ren, I have to monitor how much he's getting since he's under 4lbs. So, I've been pumping and using bottles. I bought Dr. Browns. I like them but they are a pain to clean because of all the parts to them. The only other bottles I have are even flo. I don't care for them as much. I'm not sure why but I don't. 4 oz. bottles will be plenty big enough at first. Piper is 6.9 lbs and only taking 3 oz. every 3 hours. I've been using Lanisoh nipple cream which I found at walmart. The hospital also gave me some. Nursing pads can also be found at walmart. I got the gerber brand but not sure if there's a better brand. I'm still trying everything out. Hope this helps.

Cynthia - It's true on the weight loss with breastfeeding. My stomach has been cramping up a lot and I was told that was just my uterus shrinking back to normal size. Anyway, I've lost 20 lbs since giving birth. My baby bump is almost gone but some days it's there more than others. It just depends how sore I am from the c-section and how swollen I am. I had to be put on antibiotics for an infection and I had pockets of fluid behind the incision. Anyway, I'm so excited you will hold your bundles of joy next week! It's so exciting that everyone is so close to delivering.

Tara - I'm using the Medela Pump in Style Advanced. It's a good pump. If I knew I was going to pump a lot at the beginning, I would have bought the Medela hands free pump. When I was buying the pump, I didn't want to spend the extra 100 for the hands free feature. Now I wish I had it. Medela doesn't make a hand free attachment kit. They want you to spend over 300 for the pump with the hands free feature.

hi there....i used the dr browns bottles and my son never spit up...i know you can also rent a medela breast pump from your hospital for a small charge..you just buy new attachments:) hope this helps

Amy, I was talked into buying that hands-free brassiere thingy from Motherhood. Can't report on how effective it is yet obviously, hehe. My BFF who's also a nurse practioner says you can easily cut holes in old bras and that's worked well for her. Just cut the holes really small at first so that it stays snug around the suction thingys. That's all the brassiere appears to be...a bra with holes cut in it! I think I was a sucker, ha!

Tara, my friend also suggested just buying a few different types of bottles to figure out what will work best for you and baby. She bought me 6 Playtex with the bag liners as gifts. Says they work well because you can freeze the bags with breast milk in them and then transfer them to the bottle pretty easily. I bought a few Avent bottles, some 8 or 9 oz and a few 4 oz. And I got a sample Playtex Advance Aire bottle from somewhere (probably the doc's office). It's the curved one. I figure one of these will have to work!

It will definitely be trial and error for me though...

Melinda, I plan to do just that...rent a pump from the hospital initially before buying one. I want to make sure this is going to work for me first. My friend who's the NP can get the Medela's really cheap from her hospital and I'll buy one from her later if things work out. So if any of you have a friend who works at a hospital, check to see if they can save you some money!!

Btw, Kelly is getting settled for her induction as I type!! And AFM, 4 more days!!!

hey Ladies! Gabriella was born today at 8:22pm after 11 and a half hours of labor and 33 minutes of pushing! She weighted 6 lbs. 10 oz. and was 21 and a half inches long! She healthy, beautiful, and perfect all over! I'll write more later and give the details! Take care everyone!!
