Hi. I think I'm referred to as DH round here (amongst other things I'm sure!) Anyway just thought you might like to know....
At 2.19am this morning Nikola and I became parents of the two most beautiful girls in the world!!!!!!!
It was meant to be early next week, but as ever in Nikolaworld nothing goes smoothly and at 1 this morning the heavens opened (I'll leave to your imagination what the reality was!) Anyway a snap decision was made that they had to come out now (well...then, you know....I'm sorry I'm tired and emotional, where's Tracey Sharp when you need her?!) And it had to be a general anathstetic (SP?). Nik had always wanted it to be local whatever the circumstances because she argued we weren't around when they were conceived, so it would be nice to be awake when they arrived. It was decided that this was urgent and could get messy (or messier truth be told) so she was put under, which obviously meant I was going to be pacing up and down outside rather than being there. However, the consultant let me in when he was confident that the real risk to Nik was contained, just in time for these two beautiful babies to be delivered. 4lb 9oz and 3lb 8oz. They're named twin1 and twin2 at the moment. I thought we had all eventualities covered but I was told by Nik YESTERDAY that she'd unilaterally added two names to the girls short list so that meant we couldn't announce today. Anyway I'm rambling...did I tell you how gorgeous...moving on....Babies are fine.Ironically twin 2 is stronger than 1 who had a little trouble breathing today. I was told that it was because 1 had "starved" 2 so 2 was used to fighting, 1 was happy where it was and had no plans to come out. But the good news is that 1 is now off oxygen, and while they are still both in the ICU i was told that if another baby needed a cot tonight in it, our two would be first out on their ears! So they beautiful and healthy.
Nik's had it a bit tougher. I think the shock and the fact the operation was very rushed and big has left her very sore and she's been having morphine all day. (Try discussing name options with a crack addict!) She wasn't physically able to see the girls until 4 this afternoon, and that's been hard on her too. But she's held twin2, seen twin1 and looks like she's made for this mothering lark.
I've just left her and she looks like she's more relaxed and will sleep well tonight, and should be able to see the girls by wheelchair tomorrow.
Apologies for the above, I AM going to bed now, but Nik and the girls are fine, we are the proudest parents ever, the staff at the Airedale General Hospital are fantastic, I'm all emotional and, seriously, this really really does make IVF worth it, everybody who goes through those low points and wonder whether it's worth the financial and emotional strain, anybody who's reading this who does wonder whether it's worth it....please stick with it! Everyone's got to feel like we do (admittedly Nik's off with the fairies due to restricted drugs) tonight. Good luck to you all. And thanks to Tracey for keeping you all in touch.
i am so happy for you all. congratulations on the safe arrival of your beautiful girls. dh i can hear the pride in your writing about your girls and wife. it's lovely.

God, didn't expect to see this........what bloody fantastic news.
Massive Congratulations to you both, I don't think it's just Nikola who's off with the fairies though, as you sound as though you're on a natural high, and long may it last.
I'm really so pleased for you both.......think Nikola will be in some bother though with Tracey S, I'm sure she left instructions for her to keep her legs crossed until she got back!
Take care,
Suzanne.x
ttc for almost 4 years, diagnosed as unexplained. Just about to begin treatment when we were lucky enough to concieve naturally. Our beautiful baby boy, Daniel, was born on 27 Sept 2003. Now expecting again, baby due 22 Aug 2005.
Congratulations to you both! I wasn't expecting to log on to this news but it sounds like your two girls were good weights for their early arrival.
You sound so excited in your post which is great considering the hurdles that you and Nikola have had to overcome, especially yesterday. What a fantastic surgeon to let you be there as the girls arrived - that makes it even more special. Hoping that Nikola is able to get the rest she needs to recover in hospital and to have some time to bond with the babies.
Our love to all four of you and give Nikola and your girls a big hug from us.
Love Jules, Daniel and Charlotte

Big kisses for your gorgeous girls - I bet you can't believe they are here
CONGRATULATIONS! I am so happy for you both after all the comings and goings of the last weeks it must be a relief that they have finally arrived. Also, a very nice message - sounds like it was quite a birth but I am glad the twins are good weight and healthy. I hope we will be as happy as you sound when, if all is well, some time in the autumn (seems like forever) our twins decide to come out.
love,
juliana
