Dilema: Please help me =(

Post by mizzy247 »

Hello ladies,

I would like a second opinion on my RE advise. I just was cancelled a cycle of IVF due to poor response to follistim/menopur and was told I was damaged at 32yrs and she didn't know really what else to tell me. However her advise was to wait 3 months and try again with same medication, told me those 2 drugs were the strongest and if they didn't work nothing else would. So there is another RE in the same office and I would like their opinion without offending my RE. Is that possible? Please what and how should I go about this Question....I posted this in general forum as well in hopes for all the advise I can get. Thanks in advance

A second opinion seems like a good idea, I know that my RE tried several different approaches (flare protocol ect.). I am not sure how your clinic works my RE clinic her partner is her husband, but a lot of them consult with each other and get ideas ect. So if you want a unbiased opinion I would go to another clinic all togeather. It is fairly common practice to get a second opinion and you should be able to explain that you are looking for different idea, IVF protocols can be different from RE to RE, though there are some similarities, and you want to explore your options. If your RE is professional (which most are) they will respect that and not be offended, if they are offended then well maybe not who you should be working with. Good luck!

mizzy...i was also canceled in nov. due to poor response and a dominant follie and when i went back to my RE to see what the next protocol would be she decided to put me on an antagonist protocol in jan. i asked her if there were other drugs we could try this time and she said that the meds i was on where also the strongest and best. what i find interesting from your post is that i am using gonal-f and repronex!! so i have no idea now. as far as a second opinion i wouldnt feel guily or bad at all. this is your life and it is way too important to not try to get as much info as you can. you have to remember that *we* are paying *them* to figure out what will be successful for us. that is why they make the big $$$...if you had cancer and one dr. said there was no hope wouldnt you go get and 2nd, 3rd, 4th opinion until someone would help you?
my RE also said that if this next cycle doesnt make it to RE i will have to think about donor eggs...i'm 33...there's noway i feel i am at that point yet. if that is what she tells me in the future i will have no problem going to a different clinic and seeing what they have to say. (i love my RE, but if she cant get me what i want i will move on)
good luck hun!

poohagirl: Thanks

Turtle0619: Yes that is very interesting about our meds.. So I have decided to try acupuncture I think you should as well. They say it really works! I also heard about taking DHEA herbal supplement. I will try that as well. Oh yeah and I do weekly castor oil packs on my tummy, it is suppose to increase the oxygen to your ovaries. Please keep me posted of your status. I'm part of the jan/feb thread.

mizzy247 - I would ask about the antagonist protocol ? I was on it before. I am a high responder but they use it for poor responders. They use ganarelix instead of LUpron it basically does the same thing except you start to stim first then get suppressed 2nd. Hope this info helps you :D
